Why do Huggies diapers smell strange (unused of course)?
My son stays so much drier in them than Pampers, but they just have a chemical smell...

- lol...I'm not sure, we use Pampers, and to be completely honest, I think they smell great, unused, of course. :) But that could be because I'm pregnant.
- I don't know. I never noticed until I read this. I grabbed one of my son's diapers and they do kinda smell funny. I think it's because they're not scented, so you're just smelling the materials. Pampers are scented so they smell sweeter and like baby powder. I don't think that Huggies have added fragrance.
- It's the gel inside and the way they package them. When they stack up the new diapers, they are fresh off the line, and then they put them in a piece of plastic and seal it with heat, trapping all those smells inside the bag and permeating the diapers.
- you mean like plastic? I used huggies with my first and I never really had a problem with them. I am mostly using pampers with my second because they fit her better around the leg, she's a lot thinner than my first was, and huggies sometimes leak around the legs. Personally I find the "new diper smell" more evident in the pampers, but it doesn't really bother me
- I agree. I said the same thing when we tried them. It's like a chemical / gasoline kinda smell. We use Pampers now.
- i dont know why but they do and i use pampers because of it. the pampers also fit so much better
- I have never smelled a strange smell on huggies. I use pampers or huggies (I prefer pampers but buy huggies when I have coupons) I just picked up a diaper to smell (clean of course) and it has none. No chemical smell. It just smells like cloth (and where are people getting plastic diapers from? they've not made plastic diapers in years. I've also not seen any diapers with gel inside them for years!) I think if your diapers smell like chemicals I would start buying from another provider. That isn't normal.
