- The only official diaper bag I had was the free one from the drs. which was a little on the small side. It should have room for a box of wipes, a change of clothes, a bunch of diapers, snot sucker ( I know there is a more sophisticated name for it, but it escapes me. I think the toughest thing is deciding how to tote the bottle/formula without spilling or going bad. I like an outside pocket for a capped bottle, in case it leaks. But it's tough if you'll need more than one or if the weathers warm and you don't want it to spoil. I once saw a catalog for a bottle that had the powder separated from the water, and you pulled a lever and they mixed together and shook the bottle up. That way it would always be fresh. If a diaper bag came with a couple of those kinds of bottles it would be cool. In general I don't like baby character diaper bags, ones that scream diaper bag. Eventually we started using duffle bags. Maybe a backpack style would be nice to free up your hands. Although I like an over the shoulder bag. I'm pretty partial to black. Doesn't show dirt and looks cool. Also it would hopefully be washable or wipable. It would be great if the handle doesn't tear out easily. That's usually what happens to most duffle bags.
- I really like the Land's End "Little Tripper" diaper bag. It's tiny, but I can get enough stuff in there for an infant and toddler. And I think it's pretty well organized. I wish it had loops to attach it to a stroller. And I don't like the strap (it's not comfy to wear messenger style, and it slips off a single shoulder.) I also like the Phil&Ted's E3 pannier bags, because they can attach to anything and carry a lot. But the have no internal organization, so all your stuff ends up in a big mess, and they don't come with a strap. (I use packing cubes inside, and attach a strap from another bag when I don't have the pannier attached to my stroller. I also have a small, ergonomic Eagle Creek single shoulder backpack that works OK. But it doesn't have external cup/bottle holders, which is a bummer with a toddler, and it doesn't hold very much. (Although that's a great incentive to pack as lightly as possible!) And we've experimented with a ton of messenger bags, but they're so floppy and messy... I think I would like the SkipHop bags, but I don't want to spend that much on a diaper bag. Magnetic closures or clips are nicer than velcro (less noisy when you're trying not to wake up a little one). It's nice to have an easy-to-access spot for your wallet and cell phone. It's nice to have an interior that wipes clean. Bottle pockets should hold a bottle of water for you, or a sippy cup. And it's GOTTA be machine washable.
