Diapers Q&A

Are seventh generation diapers any good?

I am currently pregnant with twin girls, & I am due in two weeks EXACTLY! Thier daddy has sensative skin & I had to switch to the BABY detergent from Seventh Gen for his skin BEFORE I knew I was pregnant. With this in mind, I am assuming my babies are going to have sensative skin like thier daddy, & I hear about diaper rash from all the brands of disposable diapers from my friends who have kids. I don't have the time for cloth diapers & the nanny probally wouldn't use them anyway when I am at work...so I was looking at Seventh Generation since they say that they are chlorine free & soft, but what does that mean? HOW are they any different than Wal-Mart's white cloud brand of diapers? I mean a diaper is a diaper right? I am a first time mom & at my shower I was given a box of Luv's, Huggies, Pampers, & Seventh Gen!! It was like everybody had thier diaper favorite! So which would be best with sensative hinees for two little baby girls???

  1. we have never had any problems so far with Luvs..no leaks no rash no nothing...i have heard 7th generation diapers are ok but they are very pricey..so i am not sure on those..
  2. my daughters(twins) had some horrible rashes, the only diapers that didnt irritate thir skin was Luvs.. pampers was okay but did sometimes.. huggies were the worst and i have actually known a lot of people who huggies gave rashes.. with my twins we ended up seeing a dermo because of the rashes, it was SOO horrible how bad it got, their skin would form ulcers and just bleed.. :( anyways, the dermo recommended to use cream with high zinc oxide, i dont remember exactly what percentage they said for it to have but i can tell you that only one was Destin.. not the creamy that one had a low amount.. when you apply destin do not use your hands, the oils on your hands, clean or not, can irritate the skin of a cmall child, apply the destin by spurting it onto the skin and using the diaper to spread it around. Also remember to apply a nice thick coat to the skin it will help keep it protected.. we go though a lot of that round here lol.. but since then we had one small rash.. and before they were always rashy.. good luck just some ideas that helped in our diaper days and sensative skin..
  3. the best way to protect sensitive skin is to buy a barrier cream and use it every time. don't use wipes and invest in a lot of little cloths and just use water. i would pre-wet the little cloths and put them in a baggy when i went out and put the dirty ones in an other baggy. i used cloth diapers with a vinal covering for diapering. to protect sensitive skin its all in the barrier cream and allowing the skin to dry between diaper changes, don' t use soap or wipes. good luck!
  4. Personally I like the Huggies brand, no rash no leaks. i work at Babies R Us and we honestly dont know what exactly Chlorine-Free means but they are more expensive than any other brand.
  5. Use the diapers you got at your shower then buy the white clouds or parents choice at walmart. with twins hunnie...your gunna go through alot and cloth aint gunna cut it cuz you wont have time and huggies and other big names aint gunna cut it cuz of the price. a diaper is a diaper. and i just looked up 7th gen diapers and it being chlorine free has nothing to do with rashes it says.... "Most diapers are made with absorbent materials that have been bleached with chlorine, which creates dangerous toxins such as dioxin. Hundreds of studies have shown a direct link between dioxin exposure and cancer, birth defects, and environmental and reproductive disorders. The absorbent material in Seventh Generation diapers is totally chlorine free." regular diapers are bleached with chlorine to make them safe and sterilized. which raises the question of what 7th gen uses to sterilize their diapers if their not using the old school method that all the other brands trust. what does make a difrence in the diapers regarding rashes is the polymer gel. (similar to that used is luvs and pampers...) but this is only because it keeps the baby dry after a tinkle. anyways...7th gen wont be anymore sensitiv on your babys skin then the walmart brand. they are promoting diapers that lessen the pollution levels of dioxin (which cause cancer when the diapers are thrown out not while your babys wearing them) change them often 8-12 times a day...use a baby powder on their bootys... if theyre extra sensitive use a bag balm or vasaline to protect from wetness.
  6. I think my favorite so far for my son is luvs or pampers swaddlers. huggies are the worst!!! i have to agree with other peoples responses on them. they broke my daughter out severely! also you pay 10 bucks for the tabs to break/tear and it's not worth it!! i have never tried seventh gen. diapers. but you'll find your own favorite diaper.. white cloud i noticed leaked a lot when my daughter was first born... but in the larger sizes they're ok. good luck with your twins!!!
  7. The Seventh Generation diapers are free of chlorine and dyes and other possible irritants. They are beige - not bleached white - and have no patterns. We have been using them most of the time and have noticed absolutely no quality difference than other brands, though they run a bit small. If you do use wipes, make sure to get ones that are fragrance free. (And, yes, everybody does have a favorite but that's driven partly by sizing, also. Every baby's bottom is different!)
