Diapers Q&A

I have a question about cloth diapers...?

I am about 35 weeks with #1 and I still need diapers! I'm thinking of getting either bum genius or happy heiny pocket diapers. I am wondering whether just to buy 12 of each, or try other brands. I've read many reviews on both brands and they seem to be the best. Any suggestions?

  1. When you are trying something new, its always best to get options. I'd suggest a pack each of 3 different types. See what works best and buy more of those. Keep the other 2 brands for later. As your baby grows the other diapers might work better at that size and stage. When its something new, I love options! My Mom used cloth and kept a pack of disposible for car trips and church. That is an option too, just so you don't have to deal with cloth when you are out and about.
  2. I don't think you can go too far wrong with either of those brands. They're both great! The only difficulty I can think of is that they really don't fit tiny babies all that well. Personally, I prefer Kissaluvs size 0 for newborn stage. Even though each of my boys was over 8 lbs at birth and grew fast, they fit them much better than one-size diapers for the first 8-10 weeks. Check out Diaper Swappers- there's a good market for lightly used ones. You should be able to get some inexpensively. Happy birthing, and happy diapering!
  3. I personally don't like pocket diapers so I don't know if I could help you or not. What I would recomend is "hanging out" on diaperswappers.com a cloth diapering community. YOu can get other people's answers and also buy diapers ;) oh and the pp just said the same thing!! ;) I use fitteds (many brands) with wool or fleece as well as prefolds :)
