- i went this route and if your husband is willing to wash and launder. it's okay. if not... you need sleep. not more work. and after a while it's gross. the stains won't completely come off and the smell of bleach is offputting.
- ewww dont do it! pampers are great!
- i think cloth diapers are unsanitary. putting all that poo in your washing machine where your other clothes go is gross. my neighbor used to hang them on a line outside and freak us all out! she was a creepy minister and she and her husband lived like amish people or something. plus they had a smelly compost pile and were mean. by the way, if you use sanitizers & bleach & fabric softener etc etc you risk giving your baby diaper rash if he or she is sensitive. i would put your baby's needs first and get Luvs unscented diapers.
- It depends on your needs, your energy level, your washer/dryer capacity and availability, if you'll be doing it full time or part, your budget, if you'll be having and cloth diapering more kids... and of course personal preference :-) Of the two you mentioned though I would go with BumGenius. They're one size so they'll fit to potty training, they're velco (so MUCH easier when diapering a wiggly/crawling/walking baby, and because I've never used fuzzi bunz- so I can't compare LOL I don't like snapping diapers. Cloth is NOT unsanitary. How silly. Yeah. All those 'sposie chemicals being peed on is way better for your baby @@ Don't use bleach or fabric softener. It'll ruin your dipes anyway. I put a little bleach with my prefolds and inserts once a month(ish) with an extra rinse.
- I cloth diaper and I LOVE it! PLEASE don't listen to the people saying it's "gross" or "unsanitary" - it is certainly not. I like Fuzzi Bunz for their absorbancy (and b/c you can add extra "stuffers") BUT I don't like they way they fit my babies - the legs gapped too much. bumGenius are okay - more snug-fitting than FB. The biggest down-side for me is that I have very hard water and the polyester dipes (like FB and bG) seem to hold more stink unless I washed only a few at a time. My absolute favorites are Kissaluvs with a Bummi's Super Whisper Wrap as a cover. Very few leaks! PLUS, it's all cotton against baby's bum. Wanted to add: Bleach is NOT for cloth diapers!! I never ever bleach my dipes. If you want to whiten, hang them out in the sun. The bleach is way too toxic. I do a cold water wash with baking soda and then a hot water wash. Just be sure you're using diaper-safe detergent OR just plain baking soda in the wash. Here's a great link for which detergents to use and which not to: http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoices.htm
- don't ever listen to people who use disposables talk about real nappies, they really don't know what thay are talking about. bleach and fabric softener?! ruins your nappies and not good for baby. sanitizers aren't even needed, you can use all natural stuff like bicarb, vinegar, lavendar oil, tea tree or lemon juice. don't know what american sites are recommending but all uk ones (all, not just hippy ones, local council ones even) are recommending you use natural products for sake of babies skin. i don't use either type you mentioned as i was trying to cut down on bulk as i have a boy so need to be able to pull his trousers up, plus he has narrow legs so the ones you mentioned gaped on him. the only thing i noted was all-in-ones/pocket nappies take ages to dry and don't last as long as other types, and birth to potty were HUGE on a small baby.
- I love cloth diapers! Personally I tried both Fuzzi Bunz and bumGenius but the best is Tiny Tush Elite one size! They grow with the child from birth to 35 lbs! and they never ever leaked even when both of my kids had the runs. I also found them really easy to wash. I reccommend bumGenius more than Fuzzi Bunz because again they are easier and grow with your child more. Oh and tiny tush diapers lasted through many kids.
- If I had to choose between FB and bG I'd go with FB because I don't like velcro. Just my personal preference. You could buy one of each diaper and see which one you think you'd like the most. In my opinion, they both work just as well. Though I think I should add that the front snaps on the bG one size always dug into my fat baby's huge, chunky thighs. But if your baby isn't too plump it might not be any problem for you. Have you been to http://www.diaperpin.com ? They have reviews of CDs. Also, you could check out http://www.diaperswappers.com and http://www.diapertraders.com which have forums where you can ask other CD users questions, plus a For Sale or Trade section where you can at least see what else is out there besides the FB and bG, even if you don't want to buy used. A lot of WAHMs make their own pocket diapers that are pretty much the same as the ones you're wanting, only you usually get to pick the fabrics. Some have some pretty cute prints available!
