Diapers Q&A

Need recommendations on cloth diapers - which brand is best?

I currently use pampers but I would like to switch to cloth diapers. I have no time to deal with a diaper service nor the old fashion cloth diapers that my grandmother probably used. I have seen lots of websites with cloth diapers that promise easy use and leak free, but would like to see what other parents recommend. I need a cloth diaper that is as quick as a Pampers diaper and easy to wash. Thanks!

  1. i dont think they have many brands of cloth diapers. the only ones ive ever seen in the store (walmart) are Gerber brand. and Gerber has been around forever so i would use those.
  2. Try Gerber weave flat fold diapers, they are pretty good buy them at target.
  3. The Nature's Child cloth nappies are great. They are organic and have a water proof cover so you do not need to buy the additional cover. They are super easy to use and you save about $4000 using cloth. Down to Earth Organics sell them - www.downtoearthorganics.com.au
  4. get pocket diapers, like fuzzi bunz. They are a cover and liner in one, and you put a absorbent liner inside of the pocket. It simple, easy to wash, easy to put on. Cloth will never be 100% as easy as disposable, but it sure is cheaper! I bought gently used ones from e-bay and I have not looked back!
  5. Here is a good article comparing brands. http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2008/03/zrecs-cloth-diaper-showdown.html
  6. i really loved the mother-ease.com diapers. they are super nice. They do not leak and there is a lot of room for growing in them. They are bulky though so realize that you will have to dress your baby one size up, in the bottoms. They are great though. You need a garbage can to use as a diaper pail and put some water and white vinegar in it to absorb the smell. Cloth diapers only smell when they dry dirty, so keep them wet and you won't have a smelly pail. Then when the pail is full dump the whole thing into the washing machine, spin cycle it then wash. So super easy and so cheap. have fun with this, and scrapbook it. You will be proud of yourself for venturing into such a great idea of the past. Besides, its so much more comfy for baby. I hate sitting on a pad, don't you?
  7. I use Chinese Prefold cloth diapers with Bummis Super Whisper Wrap covers. My daughter has had a poopy leak only once the whole time we've been using cloth. I had a different kind of covers early on and they would leak wet sometimes but the Bummis hasn't done that so far. They're really easy to put on and I just toss the pee diapers in the pail. I do rinse the poopy diapers to get the majority of the solids off so the pail doesn't stink and there's less chance of the diaper getting a stain. Care is pretty simple, once you get your routine down. I base my washing routine on the suggestions on this website http://www.diapersafari.com/diaperinfo/washandcare/ Every cloth diapering mom I've talked to has their own variations on how to wash the diapers. Just don't use chlorine bleach because it degrades the cotton fibers which wears them out faster. Also NO fabric softener because it reduces absorbency.
