Opinions on Kushis ultra all-in-one cloth diapers?
I recently posted a question about cloth diapers, and got lots of useful information. Turns out the only kind of cloth diapers I can easily get in our area are g diapers (for which I would use Kushies cloth liners) and Kushies ultra all-in-one diapers. Has anyone used these? Are they any good? My hubby is against cloth diapers so I don't want to sped alot of money. Vegan Mommy - very helpful! to clarify - you use the g diaper cloth outside with the prefold cloth liners? What about the reusable plastic part from the g diapers? Also, don't the prefold cloth liners you buy in bulk (ie. gerber) require diaper pins?

- All of the all in one diapers are expensive. I got online and got a pattern and I made one this past sunday and it cost me about 3 dollars a diaper. Kushies are pretty nice, however I've never used them
- I posted this answer to somebody's question on G Diapers. I hope it's informative enough for you. I would add more, but my daughter is almost ready for breakfast, so I need to feed her. If I can, I'll come back later to add more. We use G Diapers, more or less and we will not go back to conventional disposable. The thought of using those on a regular basis disgusts me. I used to find the little gel bits on my daughter and thought of where they COULD wind up and got disgusted and worried. Also, the thought of those things sitting in a landfill for all eternity and leeching chemicals and stuff into the soil and water also disgusted me. I couldn't fathom spending the next two years buying trash. I didn't think that would send a good message to our daughter. We used to just use the G Diaper liners when we went out, so we wouldn't have to deal with taking home cloth. We would also use them at night since they seemed to work better. However, we don't do that any more because it costs more money. We have five Kushies all in ones that we use at night. We found them on Craigs List. We started with two starter kits and have four outsides. From the start, we had used the old fashioned pre fold diapers with the G Diaper outsides. We got 20 of them from my mother, who found them left behind in the rental houses and storage garages she manages and maybe from yard sales and from a shower gift that has pretty ribbons sewn on the seams and were intended for burp cloths. We use rags for that. We also bought about three packages as well, most of which came from Babies "R" Us gift cards we've received. We fold them into the rectangle and then fold and end under and put it in the front of the diaper. We put the cloth diaper inside the G Diaper outsides. We did have about 42 insides, but we bought another pack last night since our eight month old daughter has been going through them more quickly. We will take the cloth liners when we go out and just stick the used ones in a plastic grocery bag (we have reusable bags for groceries, but we still seem to get plastic ones) and stick the bag in the diaper bag. This has become such a habit that we even did it when we went to a conference last Friday and Saturday. We took most of the cloth liners and only had to use a few of the G Liners. Even though we had some all-in-ones at home, still, my husband stayed up on Saturday night and did laundry. I pulled them out Sunday morning when I got up and put them away. For us it's worth it since we think it's much more environmentally friendly than disposables and they can definitely be used for any subsequent children we might have. The price of the G insides might be worth the money, as they are comparable to Pampers and Huggies, I guess, but we wanted to do things as cheaply as possible. I hope this has been of some help. PS: The edges do get damp or even saturated on occasion. We just take it and set it aside and get a dry outside. When the wet one dries, we use it again. We do try and wash them as much as possible and we do have some disposables that we use when it happens. However, we very rarely use the disposables. It works. Also, my husband will often do the laundry at night so we don't have to worry about using too many diapers while laundry is being done (especially if we're almost out) and if we do have to use a disposable, we only have to use one or two. ETA: We found some Kushies on CragisList and they are good. We save them for overnight because they do hold a little more and leak a little less. However, they weren't good enough to buy new.
- Okay I experimented extensively with diapers and here are some of my findings. Kushies has an outlet store (Hamilton Canada) at which I could get there ultra all-in-ones for $5 or so. At that price they were an excellent diaper. And I believe you are into the toddler stage so the added expense of a one size fit's all may not make sense. Notes on Kushies: Easy enough to use that even the day care would use them. Fairly bulky. Longest drying time of any of the cloth diapers I owned. Tendancy to stain and retain odours compaired to insert diapers. I'm not sure how I feel about reusing them for my second child. Diapers I preferred. I used to use Wonderoos at night. They cleaned excellently well and were very well made and had a short drying time. They were one size fits all, good from birth to about age 2. They held the most liquid with a jam-tots hemp insert at night but the micro terry insert made them a good daytime diaper as they were much more trim. Mind you I had the older American made Wonderoos. I had 2 Wonderoos made in the Taiwan factory and the newer Wonderoos are no good. They fall apart. If you are buying second hand diapers provided you make sure you get the old American made Wonderoos you can probably get an awesome deal on them as the Taiwan diapers ruined the good name of a previously excellent diaper causing the bottom to go out of a previously great resell diaper. With respect to snaps verses velcro. I prefer velcro. I found with the snap diapers tend to have problems with the limited size adjustability. For newborns a chinese prefold fastened with a snappy and covered with a wrap seemed to work best to prevent wicking wetness and leaks. The prefolds were dirt cheap and ended up used as everything from change pads to burp cloths so we really got our money's worth out of these. For wraps I tried Polar Bummis, Bummis Super Whisper Wraps, Motherease and Kushies wraps. The Bummis SWW was the best. The Kushies was the worse but all the wraps were decent. The prefolds became very difficult as baby got older and squirmier. I tried Jam Tots Berry Plushes - cute but too fiddley I tried the Motherease all in one - leaked every time. I tried the Motherease Sandies - they require a wrap. Preform decently. Too pricey for a wrap and diaper system. The best I found was the Bum Genius one size fits all. Very trim, infinitely adjustable, quick wash and dry time. No staining issues. I just bought over the internet when I wanted to try something
