What's the best solution to get rid of my 2 year old's diaper rash?
My child had a bug at one time and was having bad diapers, which caused a bad diaper rash. The doctor said it looked like there was a little bit of yeast in it. She prefered me to use Lubriderm daily. Well, it slowly went away but not quite all of it. Well, again he had some bad diapers and it's back. I feel like I've done everything by rubbing lotions, Desitin and baby powder on it. Does anyone know a better method or ointment to use?

- My doctor recommended to me Triple Paste, when other ointments and creams did not clear up a diaper rash. It's a little more expensive, but well worth it.
- Bathe him often... when cleaning his diapers use a warm washcloth instead of wipes, it irritates the skin less. After you change his diaper, make sure is he totally dry before putting on another. If that doesn't help clear him up along with desitin/balmex/etc let him run free for a few hours each day! Also, if desitin or an equivalent isn't working try using plain old vaseline. It creates a barrier and usually clears things up right away!
- For an ordinary rash, the doctor may recommend an over-the-counter ointment containing zinc oxide to protect the skin. ***If your child has developed a bacterial infection, a topical or oral antibiotic may be prescribed. For candida infection, your pediatrician will prescribe an antifungal cream for the rash and possibly an oral antifungal liquid to clear up patches of thrush in your baby's mouth. For diaper rashes involving seborrheic dermatitis or eczema, doctors sometimes prescribe corticosteroid cream. Over-the-counter antifungal and hydrocortisone creams are also available. However, you should check with your child's pediatrician before using them instead of prescription creams. How Can I Prevent Diaper Rash? You can't prevent diaper rash, but you can limit its duration or severity by keeping your baby dry and clean and by changing the baby's diaper as soon as it becomes soiled. Wash cloth diapers in hot water, use bleach or vinegar in the rinse water, and add extra rinse cycles to help kill bacteria and remove traces of soap. The best preventive measure is to let your baby go without diapers as much as possible.
- I really like using baking soda in the bath and then make it into a cream it will help with the ph balance I use it on my boys when they get any kind of diaper rash and it clears up pretty quick.
- When my daughter was small and would have bad ones, especially after a bug, I'd go to the pharmacy and get some gyne lotrmin or something in that line (for women's yeast infections). I always bought the cream kind, I think it's like the 7 day kind or something, and it worked like a charm. Also, if you are able to let him run around without a diaper for a few minutes after applying the ointment, it works well too. Not too long, just enough to let the ointment "settle" good. If this doesn't work, you may have to get a prescription for it.
- A & D ointment worked perfeect on my daughter's bottom
- I love Boudreaux's Buttpaste. Sounds funny but I was using Desitin and powder and it wasn't quite doing the trick. Used the Buttpaste (found at the evil walmart) and it worked fast and well.
- I do not have children..thank goodness..im only a teenager, but I do have nieces and nephews. When they get really bad rashes, you clean up the diaper and blow on their bottom.
- I always use aquaphor cream. I usually cleared my girls' rashes up within a diaper or two. Bath him often and changed often. Try not to give him acidic foods or drinks. Try and stay with like pear juices and no oranges or apple juice. As these make diaper rashes worse in my experience. I have also noticed with my children that real sugary juices would cause diahrea and diaper rashes. I stick with water mostly and sometimes give them caprisun coolers. I am one of the lucky moms whos children love water so it isn't a fight to get them to drink it. Plus we live in the desert so they get more thirsty more often.
- Yes take him back to the doctor and ask them for Nystatin ointment usp, my daughters have both had bad diaper rashes and this cleared it 100% in under 3 days. Or just call and ask them to phone in the rx for you. It is a godsent. Hope this helped.
- Triple paste is the best thing out there and will see results in one day! My son had bad diarrhea and got a terrible rash I couldn't even touch him! and this made it better, nothing else worked. They sell it at target and walgreens, its pricier than other brands because it works and you'll end up wasting your money on the other stuff like I did! Use it generously bcuz it works fast!
- BUTT PASTE! omg that cream is SOO great. the exact same thing happened to my daughter just about 2 weeks ago. she had a bad stomach bug and it gave her an awful rash. we tried a lot of different things including desitin and nothing was helping. so finally i found the butt paste another mom had given to me at my baby shower and i put it on her before she went to sleep and in the morning it looked SOOO much better and within 2 days it was healed up. hope it works for ya. also if she has a yeast infection, my daughter had one from the medicine she was taking and they gave me 2 different types of cream bc the first one didnt do anything so we went back 2 weeks later and they gave me another kind and it didnt seem to do a whole lot and then i just started using powder and we found it to work so much better.
- If it truly is yeast, you need an antifungal to kill it. Just putting lotion, etc. on it won't help. The dr. can prescrible Nystatin and it usually works on my kids in just a couple of applications. Also, start giving him a probiotic to regulate the yeast in his system. You can get them at a health food store in the refrigerated supplement section. It will balance out the yeast in his intestines and keep it from appearing on the outside. If it's yeast, which it sounds like since he's had diarrhea, this is really the only way to prevent it. Probiotice come in powder or powder inside a capsule that you can break open and mix with whatever he's drinking. I mix my kids' with their milk and they never even know they're getting it.
