How do I get my dogs to stop pooping and peeing on the carpets?
we have 2 yourki poos. they have a doggie door, and they use it, but they prefer to use the bathroom on my carpet !!! We clean our carpets with a carpet cleaner once a month. The dogs cont. to go on the floors. What can we put on the carpets to prevent them from returning to the same spots daily !! I wont spank them and we never catch them in action. We lock them outside in the morning for about 15 minutes, they still hold it until they return to the carpet. It only seems to be happening in the morning ! Short of putting them in diapers, I dont know what to do..... Help

- take them out side!
- Watch them carefully when you are home and when you catch them in the act say no, we go potty outside. Then bring the dogs outside and tell them to go potty. It sounds like you also need to be outside with them so when they go potty outside you can use positive reinforcement like treats or just some petting. You need to keep more of an eye on them until they are completely potty trained. When you are not home it would be best to keep them in a crate (actually 2 crates one for each dog). This will prevent them from having accidents when nobody is around. Good Luck just take a little extra time to teach them what you want them to do!
- Then stay outside for 20 or 25 minutes.
- you need to use something that will get the smell out first of all...try something at your local pet store cause they are still smelling that that is there potty spot, and you need to use it on the spot EVERY TIME you find that they have gone there cause if they can smell there mess they will use that spot again and again...second try covering the spot with pee-pee pads that way they cant ruin the carpet. if this has been going on long they may just be in the habit of going there and you may not get them to stop so at least the pee-pee pads will protect your carpet.
- You should go out with them & not bring them back inside until you SEE them pee & poop. You could try crate training & when you take them out of the crate immediately take them outside & also wait until they go potty before letting them back inside. Crate training works wonders. My dogs were crate trained & now we can leave them alone inside & they hold it but if we are home they bark or scratch at the back door when they gotta go.
- ok you need to clean the carpet spot where they poop with vinegar. most of the chemical used to clean carpets have amonia and smells justl ike dog pee. by using vinegar they wont like it and wont use it. also when you are out ofthe house and not checking on them put them in thier cage or crate. dont yell and when the do the right thing give the a treat and praise them.
- Well, you should'nt let them out on your carpet. Take them out in the afternoon since they only do it in the morning. Once they are older, they will learn not to do that. But if they keep doing it, you put them in their cage for 5 minutes to teach them a lesson. Also, you have to clean the spot they go to the bathroom on so they don't smell it and keep every spot clean.
- When you let them out in the morning (first thing when they wake), tell them "Let's go pee-pee." Sound excited about it. Stand outside with them and watch them. Since they are puppies it will take approximately 2 weeks. There are somethings at PetsMart or any pet store and they have plenty of things you can put on the carpet to make them stop going back. When they do pee on the floor though tell them "Bad" or "No-No." And they will retreat to their favorite spot and lay down for a while because they are in trouble. If you need reinforcements, use a newspaper or a flyswatter. Don't spank them just show it to them.
- Buy the book "Eliminate on Command" by Dr. M. Smith This is a proven, no nonsense method (yes, I used the word 'method') of teaching the dog not only to go on command, but where to go as well. If you can read Chairman Gore's internet, you can rad this book. If you can navigate Yahoo.com, you can work the material. Work the program and the program works;period.
- My grandmother used to put down under pads (like what they would use in hospitals to catch urine accidents in the beds) on the floor. You can get them at any pharmacy for about $5-10. They also have spray deterrents that doesn't harm the animals only has a foul oder like sour apples. You can get those at any pet store.
