Diapers Q&A

What kind of diaper creams are safe to use with cloth diapers?

I have a cream that has shea butter, almond oil, olive and jojoba oils, and beeswax as ingredients. Will this be okay to use on my cloth diapers? Does anybody have any good suggestions on what you use and like?

  1. You can use any cream you'd like to use. Just put an old, ripped-up t-shirt in over the diaper to protect it from the cream and staining. Edit: And I like Triple Paste. It's more expensive but is white and works great.
  2. I've been wondering this myself! I think anything without fish oil is basically okay, but anything oily at all (like jojoba oil) could possibly stain the diapers. But I've used a cream from Avalon Organics a few times and haven't had trouble that I noticed. Lanolin, like what a nursing women uses to heal and protect her nipples, is really good on diaper rash and it's okay on the diapers, too. Whatever you decide to use, you should probably try it out on one of your least expensive diapers (like, if you use prefolds and fitteds or AIOs, you would try it on prefolds) in case it harms them.
  3. I use a mixture of hemp oil, olive oil and shea butter. Works wonders. For a really bad rash, I use help oil and then aloe. You might get a very slight stain from the aloe but it washes out in a few washes.
  4. I use desitin. It works and I haven't notice any additional stains on my diapers. Of course, cloth diapers do get stains on occasion. It goes w/ the territory.
  5. I don't use any diaper creams as others have told me that it can make the diapers repel or wick pee. If my little one is a bit red I put Acidophilus powder right on it. It has always cleared up the red with the first application (which I put on with the night time diaper). It won't stain or hurt the diaper at all. Plus, it has other great benefits besides curing diaper rash!
