What do you do with the wipes when using cloth diapers?
Yes, this is going to sound incredibly naive. I have a 4 1/2 month daughter and am finding the cost of disposable diapers pushing the high end of my budget (surprise, I know). I'm having an increasingly harder time talking myself out of cloth diapering, at least at home, but then what would I do with the (non-flushable) wipes? Would a regular, small step-open garbage can be enough to quell the odor if changed regularly? I have a Diaper Genie II at the moment but the thought of pushing dirty wipes down into that aren't really exciting.

- I use cloth wipes. I make a solution of baby soap and water, dip the cloth wipe in it, use the wipe as needed and then it gets thrown in the laundry with the cloth diapers.
- I think that first answer sounds really clever. If you still want to use disposable wipes, then try disposing of them in plastic bags - you can use the kind from the grocery store, or you can buy the scented kind that are made for diapers. They sell them at Babies R Us - they come 250 to a box, and you could put a day's worth of wipes in and then dispose each night.
- Yes, cloth wipes are a good idea, take a water spray out with you, and dry cloths, then wet up as needed and put them in the wet bag with the nappy (diaper) Saves you even more money. I have a set of these and only buy one pack of baby wipes once every month or so, which I mainly use when out or for Toxic Waste. I have to confess though, I often put the wipe inside the nappy by accident and it goes through the wash...... You'll find that washed baby wipes make good nappy liners !!! I know I'm not the only one that does it either, a few of my friend use cloth and it's their dirty secret too! I love cloth, you'll be glad you switched....some of the shaped ones are so cute. Go to http://www.thenappylady.com and you should be able to find a good deal, there are tons of nappy classifieds there! Ebay is good for sets of reusable wipes. Sell the diaper genie and make some cash for your new nappies ;)
- First off, I love cloth diapers. It's really not a big deal to wash them once you get your routine down. Not to mention all the $ I'm saving each month. We alternate between cloth wipes and disposables. The disposable ones go in a little wastebasket that I throw out every other day or so. We haven't had any smell issues. For my diaper pail I got a washable liner so I just dump the whole thing in the wash, liner and all. No need to touch anything icky. :)
- You could always do what I did when raising my two kids. When they were in diapers, they were in cloth diapers all the time and I never used disposable wipes. I always kept a few damp wash cloths in plastic bags in the diaper bag and I would just use one of them for clean up. If I was lucky enough to be in a rest room then I would just rinse it out good and put it back in the bag for later use. Now fuss, no muss, no bother, no waste to dispose of. Good luck.
