cloth diapers?
i got cloth diapers for my daughter, who is 1. she seems to keep diaper rash alot so i thought i would try the cloth ones to see if that helps at all, thinking maybe she is allergic to the disposables. i bought the gerber ones from wall mart, and the pins and the plastic covers, now i have no idea what to do with them!! How do they work? i can get them snug around her waist, but they are all loose around her legs. also, what do you do about poopy? i know that the more solid stuff i can just flush, but the mooshy stuff, how do i get rid of that?

- umm...maybe take it out and hose it off...and wash in the sink...i would rather spray it with the hose
- Oh gosh, those are awful. You want the all-in-one diapers by BumGenius. But if you are just seeing if cloth will help her, that would be a way to start. Mooshy poo gets swished around in the toilet and then dumped into the diaper pail. I used a wet diaper pail and it kept the smell and stains away. This website has everything I needed to know about cloth diapers: http://www.cottonbabies.com/ Resources are towards the bottom left.
- wash it with sope. And to keep it from falling tie it harder.
- do not bother with the diapers from walmart, kmart or any other mass retailer - the ONLY diaper from a mass retailer that works ok for cloth - is the gerber DSQ (diaper service quality) - it has to be DSQ - these are only available from target - and hard to find in stores but available online next - do not use they vinyl pants - will not help diaper rash at all then do not use diaper pins - use snappi's they are great, quick and no pin pricks diaper covers can be pricey - for just beginning i would suggest the dappi diaper cover $3 and works the best for me out of all the expensive ones i have tried if you really get into cloth diapering get a wool soaker for overnights and day use as well - for the breathability and absorbancy factor if she is a heavy wetter - for just starting out to see if you like - you can use the guaze prefolds or flats as a doubler - this seems to work best with me using a twist - not the newspaper fold - they are going to be a bit loose around the legs - but the snappi will help you get it tighter - but even with not being snug around legs - i have never had a blowout that involved clothing it all stayed in the diaper cover - i would not swish my diapers in the toilet - that really isnt necessary these days - just roll, shake the poop off (you can also use a spatula or paintscraper) in the toilet then you can use a hose sprayer attached to the toilet valve or a utility sink to get rinse the rest of the poop off - some people dont bother doing even that because of the effeciency of detergents and washers these days do not use bleach tho - free and clear detergents are best - no fabric softener - dryer balls or line dry - occaisionally maybe a vinegar wash if odor becomes a problem - but do a double rinse afterwards, then wash normally i have found cloth to be no more trouble than disposables - a less stinky diaper pail - better for my baby, etc
