Diapers Q&A

How many diapers will a newborn go through?

I'm 2 months away from having my baby and I've started stocking up on diapers. I have 4 packs of newborn diapers (40 count) It says for up to 10 pounds. So I figured that would be just right until he'll be over 10 pounds, but I really have no idea, I'd really like to know if I have too many and should exchange one or two packs for size 1's, I don't have a reciept, but I would only be exchanging them. Please let me know if I have too many diapers...

  1. heaps i no lol mi mum had 2 twins and we wer foreva changing diapers
  2. Every baby is different so i would take it in strides. They grow the fastest and probably poop the most at the beginning. Some babies even come out 10 pounds these days. Not tryint o scare you though.
  3. well, it depends on how big the baby is when you have it. if you have an 7 or 8 pound baby, they grow faster than u think, but ALSO, they do go through many diapera a day. newborns are said to average 7-10 diapers a day. before i had my babies, i stocked up on newborn and size 1 diapers and was very glad i did. hope this heps and congratulations and good luck with your little angel! ...also its very smart to stock up on baby wipes as well, these are of course a must!!
  4. My daughter is 7 weeks old and has been averaging 10-15 per day. Make sure you like the brand before you buy many more. I only like pampers. CONGRATS!
  5. you will never have enough diapers(lol) try mabe 7-8 a day then like 6 when he baby gt older God Bless
  6. I used newborn diapers in the hospital but when i got home i only used the newborn diapers for 1 1/2 week. The ones that had a special cut for the belly button. Once my kids belly buttons fell off I changed to size 1. It was a little bigger but like it because i tied it a little high waisted and never had poop accidents that some people experience coming out from the back of diaper top. Do you know what your baby weighs now from sonograms reports? In the beginning I used to change them about 10-12 times a day. We used pampers newborn and stage 1 pampers. When they reached stage 2 we got them huggies supreme - They have many huggies brand but the supreme was the best one for us and little more expensive then the rest. Experiment later on when they get to stage 2 and see what you like. My daughter weighed 7.11 son weighed 8.11 I had to change them every time i had to breast feed them due to poop. Poop stages The Meconium Stage of Poop Every parent has probably already changed at least one diaper by the time their firstborn comes along, but very few are prepared for the surprises that await them in those first few diapers. The first poop stage is called meconium. This bowel movement will be black or greenish black and look like tar. It will be very sticky, too. But, relax, it is completely normal, and it is a short-lived stage. Most babies will pass this within the first 12 hours of their birth. Expect Transitional Stool Next comes what is called transitional stool, which tends to be greenish and somewhat runny. If you are breastfeeding, your baby's next poop will probably be mustard colored, sort of seedy looking and fairly runny. If you are formula feeding, the stool will likely be more tan and soft, but not any firmer than peanut butter. Average Number of Bowel Movements Breastfed babies will also poop a lot, at least at first. I found that my kids had a bowel movement right after just about every feeding. This is not a sign of diarrhea. Six to eight poops a day is average for a newborn. Causes of Green Poop in Babies Green poop may also appear in your baby's diaper. Do not be alarmed. In breastfed babies, this could be caused by something in the mother's diet or just from changes in your breast milk. In formula-fed babies, the iron in the formula can sometimes cause this. In either case, as long as the baby is happy and not having any constipation problems, there is nothing to worry about. When to Call the Doctor If you notice blood in the baby's poop, chalky-white poop, or black poop at any time other than that first few days, you should call your doctor. Bowel movements are a part of life and after a few hundred diaper changes, I am sure you will be thinking differently about poop. And, you will find that very little can shock you - that is until your baby starts eating solid foods. Then you are in for a whole new colorful adventure.
  7. A newborn should go through about 6-8 diapers a day.
  8. When I had my daughter I think I changed her diaper every 4 hrs... and actually I still do with the exception of during the night since shes 9 months old and sleeps through the nights.
  9. Plan on 10-15 a day. It gets less and less the older they get.
  10. Most places say 8-10 diapers a day for a newborn. My daughter had 15 a day. Wait until the baby is born, then you will know how big they are and how many they are using. Plus you or someone in your household will have to go grocery shopping again someday after the baby is born so they can pick up more if needed!
