Diapers Q&A

What are the items you keep in a diaper bag?

Hi everyone, I'm due August 29th and I'm just trying to get everything together before my little princess arrives :-) What do you usually carry in your diaper bag? (Sorry to sound like an idiot, but this is my first baby and I don't really know what to expect). This is what I'm thinking: Diapers (duh) Wipes 1 Clean Outfit 2 Burp Cloths 1 Receiving Blanket 1 Changing Pad 1 Pacifier I plan on breastfeeding exclusively, so their's no need for a bottle. Is there anything else I will need? Thanks in advance for your answers! All of you answers are very helpful! Thank you so much!!!

  1. it looks like you have everything covered
  2. baby powder
  3. yes all that stuff but you want 2-3 clean outfits and 2 pacifiers you may not be able to locate one when you need it so you need a back up and you may also want to keep a bottle with some formula because you never know when you baby does want to breast feed anymore.
  4. about 3 more outfits more pacys bibs snacks more burp clothes about 4
  5. Get a tiny bag holder, you can find them at Target or Walmart. Baby Powder just in case. I think you have everything! Good luck and congradulations!!!
  6. Might consider going ahead and getting some Mylicon Drops for gas. Baby tylenol, At least two changes of clothes if not more even simple outfits like onesies will be good as babies burp throw up whatever and are needed to be changed a bit. As they get older will need toys and teething devices. Also might consider extra burp cloths. Two pacifiers, and not all babies can take to breast so would still consider bottles, as well as nursing pads for yourself. Hope this helps
  7. A Tide To Go pen... a snack for yourself (something that doesnt go bad like a protein bar or cereal bar or something) and a bottle of water. CONGRATULATIONS!
  8. Dear Mandy, Congratulations on your first. Good idea to prep ahead of time. My thoughts - depending on the baby: 1) You may well want to have 5 - 8 burp / soft cloths. I've seen some (and my daughter had some days) where I would want to have that many with me. 2) You'll also want to find a diaper bag dispenser that dispenses little blue (at least, my "Diaper Duck" did) bags into which you can put the baby's soiled diapers so they don't foul up public areas when you put them in trash cans. 3) Make sure you have a ziplock bag that you change regularly to keep the pacifier in (or that the pacifier has a pacifier cover). 4) Make sure that you have 2-3 clean onesies in addition to the outfit. 5) If you'll be out in the sun, a good hat or two for the baby. These items will change in variety and size as the baby grows, but I think this is a good start. -j.
  9. You will find that as the baby gets older your needs will change but starting out you need diapers and you should calculate that by every 3 hours you will need a new diaper, wipes, extra outfits not just one but several, burp clothes, blankets, changing pad, pacifier, lotion, baby powder, cream for diaper rash,hair-bows(if its a girl).Everything should depend on the amount of time that you will be away from home and how old the child is.
  10. what you have down is pretty much it, tho you wont really know until you start bringing her out. in the beginning my diaper bag was filled, and now at 6months old when we go out to eat , i just put 1 diaper, wipes spit cloth and a bottle in my purse. you'll definitely simplify it down the road. oh and all woman plan on breast feeding, just dont get discouraged and make sure you at least have bottles and formula for back up!
  11. Everyting for the baby is completed, but what about youself; i tink u need to pack some clothes or youself u dont want to discharge from the hospital with hospital clothes. And CAMERA that is important, Booties i tink u miss that
  12. okay the mommy diaper bag should include 6 to 8 diapers wipes 2clean outfits 2burp cloths 2receiving blankets( covers leakage) 1 changing pad usually come with diaper bag 2 pacifiers covers for losing one baby toys corn starch powder and a washcloth to clean up big messes in a plastic baggy. you will need a big diaper bag for a while when I breastfed I also kept and extra shirt for myself do to leakages and spitups. and you don't sound like an idiot i wished that I would have known with my first child too it would have saved me alot of money from buying outfits and shirts when I was out.
  13. Sounds like your list is just about right. You may not always need the changing pad but the rest are necessities. You may want a plastic bag for used diapers in case you can't dispose of them right away.
  14. I always keep children's Tylenol, teething medicine, alcohol swabs (for cleaning the umbilical cord at each diaper change). I also keep sanitary products for myself in the bag. You will need them the first couple of weeks. You should keep an extra boogie sucker in there too. Hope that these suggestions help.
  15. Diapers wipes burp rag an extra outfit extra bottle 1 can of formula bottled water 2 toys baby powder pacifier teething ring oral jell baby Tylenol rash cream changing pad
  16. I like the little roll of bags to disopse of dirty diapers -- also good for soiled clothing. You'll have to see if there is a need -- but maybe desitin -- my first baby never needed it -- but my second ALWAYS needed it. Good luck new momma!
  17. you might want to have some mylicon drops just in case your baby gets gassy while you are out and about, a themometer, diaper rash creme i can't think of anything else at the moment. congratulations and good luck with your new baby!!!
  18. i would bring more than one pacifier, ya never know if it could get lost or dirty. possibly two outfits, kids get so dirty and they like to spit up all the time...lol the good old days, dont expect to wear nice clothes with a newborn around, they all get ruined haha.. you may want to carry around a few toys to keep them entertained too. but youve just about got everything there on your list :) the only other thing i can think of is a jacket, if they dont wear one they may need it later in the day or something.
  19. You've done good! The one thing that I ALWAYS had in addition to what you've listed was a hat, tushy cream (Desitin), a small bottle of destilled water (for the times that she dropped the pacifier or got something on her clothes), and some kind of toy. The toy changed according to the age. Good luck on the baby!
  20. i carry that and as a breast feeding mother i take with me a blanket big enough to cover with because a reciving blanket is too small. I do carry a bottle with me though. Just incase of and emergency and i'm not with baby. Desitin, balmex, what ever diaper rash cream you plan on using. i use balmex. i keep 1 extra onies in the diaper bag also on top of the clean out fit. Tyenol Motrin Gas releif drops These are kept in the diaper bag at all times. good luck and congrats.
  21. You got everything correct. However, you should bring one bottle of breastmilk or formula and one clean bottle. You never know if you'll be in a position where you are unable to breastfeed your child.
  22. In addition to your list; -Extra breast pads -Butt cream (desiden, etc.) -Breast cream (helps your breasts heal in early stages of nursing..it's a God send) -Extra blanket because they spit up on their blanket too.. -Small Ziplock bags for dirty diapers (people appreciate that when you are visiting their home) That's all I can think of..Basically, you're packing up your house each time you leave! haha...
  23. Since you will be breastfeeding bring along an extra shirt for you--for "accidents" and also an extra pair of breast pads. One other thing is a sample size or small tube of diaper ointment and a small toy to entertain baby.
  24. plus fragranced nappy bags also to dispose the used diapers. and a bottle of drinking water for you. make sure you carry an extra set of clothes for you also!!!
  25. With your first child you always go crazy and pack EVERYTHING, and most of the time you don't use much of it at all. For now, the pacifier, you don't really need. Some babies like it, some hate it...so after your baby is born it will be something you will find out if you need. Diapers, wipes, changing pad, burp cloths, a clean outfit...honestly I think that's all you need. A blanket you can keep in the car, so you don't have to carry it around. Remember your baby will start getting heavy and carrying a heavy bag everywhere will become irritating. With my second child, I packed diapers, wipes, her formula and a bottle. That's all she ever needed. So it's what you find that works for you...
  26. Not sure if anyone mentioned this but Since you plan to breastfeed, it would be good to keep nursing pads in the diaper bag for yourself. GL and Congrats
  27. I also kept a clean shirt for myself in the diaper bag so in case I got spit up on I didn't have to go walking around with spit-up on my shirt. Also A water bottle for yourself. Breastfeeding makes you thirsty. Healthy snacks for yourself. I'd skip the pacifier until breastfeeding is established (around 6-8 weeks)
  28. Diaper rash cream, just in case. It's good to put on the baby before you leave for an outing where you might not be able to change her as often as you like. Will keep moisture and irritation to a minimum. Good Luck! and congrads!
  29. How bout bum cream in case of rash, and something I had to think about was a clean shirt for myself if my son spit up on me.
  30. baby powder and paper towels if ur baby throws up
  31. my son is now 6 months old and i asked the same ??? on here before my son was born and people were ridicilious...i actually put in the diaper bag what they said and i did not use half of it...this is what i have figured out and still do...diapers, at least 5...wipes...1 bib..1 burp cloth...infant tyneol..changing pad..1 clean outfit...nursing pads since you are breastfeeding...and some infant toys when she reaches 3 months and up...and an extra pacifier besides the one in his mouth...good luck and congrats
  32. omg how cool. my birthday is august 29 lol
