Diapers Q&A

What all do I need in my diaper bag for going to the hospital?

I'm packing a diaper bag for when I go into labor. I have a couple outfits, diapers, wipes, some receiving blankets and and changing pad. Do I need to bring anything else?

  1. bring a brush i 4got my brush & i had dread locks lol! also deoderant, & slippers thats pretty much it o yea & bring sumthing comfy 2 go home in EDIT: also bring baby mittens babies tend to scratch there faces alot
  2. stun gun to keep hubby awake
  3. not sure on what your hospitals procedure is or what they supply but my friend recently had a baby and her milk hadnt come in and her baby was sooo hungry and distressed and the hospital wouldnt give her any formula cos they only believe in breast feeding, so i'm going to take a few bottles and some formula as well
  4. For the baby? Clothes that you want for everybody to see the baby in when they come to visit. A couple of blankets, socks, gloves and a couple of caps. The hospital will supply everything else. Don't forget the car seat and camera. OK! OK! OK! I called the girls down stairs at postpartum. They voted for the stun gun!
  5. Things for yourself. -nursing bras- if you are breastfeeding -several pairs of underwear -several pairs of socks -a few changes of clothing -soap -shampoo -toothbrush and toothpaste -deoderant -shaver -hair brush and hair ties -CAMERA I brought 10 diapers and had to get my fiance to go home and get more. You never know how long you will be staying so pack more to be on the safe side.
  6. Actually at thehospital I went to they had all the supplies I needed. I didn't actually need to bring the wipes or diapers or even clothes! (But if you want him/ her to be extra cute- take clothes!) I took some pajama pants for myself, but then with the big pad underwear they gave me I couldn't even pull the pj pants over my butt! I would say just hygein things... d.o. shampoo etc.. OH! and make-up... Everyone takes pictures!
  7. if delivering normal bring pajamas and comfy shirts for cesarian section i suggest you bring house dreses since you will be wearing diapers there for the baby clothes for the baby recieving blankets a mosquito net diapers booties, mittens and bonnets diapers baby soap, alcohol, cotton, baby oil(in case it isnt available in the hospital)
  8. I think it depends on the hospital - some hospitals will supply you with things you will need (pads, nightgowns, etc) and others will expect you to bring it. Call the maternity ward and ask them, quite often they will even have a checklist they can send you or read off for you. Here in the UK we need to take EVERYTHING you can imagine! My own list: For me -- nightgown and robe to wear afterwards large old t-shirt to wear in labour/delivery (they supply nothing) lipbalm hair band to keep hair out of my eyes face wipes moisturiser toothbrush and paste maternity sanitary pads maternity disposable undies comfy pants and top to wear home snacks for labour 2 large towels (one for showering after labour, one for drying off while getting in and out of birthing pool) camera and extra batteries coins for payphone list of phone numbers for hub to make calls hairbrush slippers breast pads earplugs (for in the ward afterwards when you have 15 other women and their new babies and you want a few hours sleep!) maternity notes (ie/ your maternity medical file, in the UK it is kept by the mother because you do not have an assigned doctor) For baby -- diapers scratch mitts hat sleepers (onesies, babygros etc) undershirts (vests) receiving blankets (specially sent from home in north america as they don't use them here in the uk!) Side note: I've just changed hospitals as we moved house, but the first hospital I was booked into made mothers sign a document to state they understood that under absolutely no circumstances whatsoever was a mother allowed to feed in any way other than breastfeed while in the hospital, unless there was a medical reason that had been documented and agreed on by an obstetrician before birth (ie/ lack of both breasts from a masectomy was the example given) OR unless the baby was in the special care unit in which case they expected you to pump. The new hospital I am booked into tole me that if you want to formula feed you can bring your own or purchase single-use bottles and formula from the maternity ward. Point of this -- things can be different even just a few miles down the road!!
  9. The most important things you need to remember: any health insurance details and medicare numbers, camera, nursing pads, sanitary pads, nipple cream (like lanolin), comfy clothes for you and bub, change for phone and parking, your birth plan (if you've written one) toiletries for yourself (toothbrush, shampoo etc) Everything else like the diapers, wipes, blankets for bub etc...the hospital usually supplies. Best of luck
  10. that should be fine make sur your bag is packed ready as i went 2 months early make sure u have : -night dress not pj's -book -change of underwear -clothes do wear home -sanitary pads not tampons -toothbrush etc x
  11. ask the hospital what they provide. All I wound up using was my nightgown ( and changes of undies, socks), hairbrush, hair tie, toothbrush, face wash, deodorant, chapstick and a going home outfit for baby and myself. I packed some snacks for hubby too, and some change for the vending machine for drinks if he got thirsty. The hospital provided everything else and the other101 contents of the TWO bags I packed did not even see the light of day.
