Diapers Q&A

What to put in the diaper bag that's going to the hospital?

I'm a first time mom & I'm not sure other than a change of clothes for me, a couple diapers and a blanket what I should have in the diaper bag that's going with us to the hospital when I go into labor. Any item lists would be great!

  1. I want to know that too...can't wait till people answer. Good luck with your birth!
  2. You really do not need much. I overpacked! Diapers and wipes will be provided for you. I brought a night gown for myself but spent all the time up until we left in the hospital gowns(they closed in the front to help with breast feeding). The hospital will also provide pads, and "underwear" for you to use. The things YOU may want to pack are travel size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. a book or two, your own pillow(the hospital ones are horrible!), chapstick. And for entertainment, cards or any other small game, and a laptop. Also make sure you have your camera and phones(with chargers!). The only thing you'll want for your baby is an outfit to bring him/her home in.
  3. Deodorant, toothpaste & toothbrush, comfy clothes, pads, hair ties, slippers, hand sanitiser, camera, baby outfit, car seat, blankies, and a couple diapers, they usually will provide you with anything else you may need,
  4. Well - you should bring a robe, slippers, socks for yourself - you don't wanna get stuck in those nasty hospital gowns! Bring baby an outfit to go home in - you may want to bring two outfits, one newborn size and one 0-3 month size, just in case you have a big baby! :) Make sure you bring your carseat... Maybe put some wipes in the bag along with a hat for baby.
  5. night gown outfit to go home with baby outfit to go home with tooth brush tooth paste deodorant slippers robe things to fix you hair with camera under clothes magazines baby announcements When I had my daughter I didn't need to bring anything for her but an outfit to go home in. They supplied you with everything for her. GOOD LUCK and I wish you the best.
  6. The hospital will provide the things the baby will need like dipers, bottles and milk to take the baby home. Just take one of each in case your hospital does not do that. The most impotant thing is Baby: 1. baby car seat 2. blanket 3. Change of clothes 4. Hat and mittens if its too cold. 5. at least 2 dipers, bottle and milk. Mom: 1. Confortable changing clothes Good luck when you go into labor. Sounds like fun!
  7. Any registration papers and/or birth plan Comfy clothes for you Lots of big cheap panties (they will get ruined - get them at the drugstore or something) Bras or nursing bras Outfit for the baby Blanket Burp clothes Large maxi pads Camera Phone Makeup Hairbrush Shampoo, other toiletries Deodorant
  8. you will need something for the babies first pictures and something for the baby to wear home. If you are going to nurse you might want to take your nursing pillow if you have one. Also these web sites have check list that can help you.
  9. First, make sure the clothes you take for yourself are plenty big. You won't shrink to your pre-pregnancy size for at least a few weeks. I would take a little cap and booties for baby, plus 2 or 2 receiving blankets. BE SURE TO HAVE AN INFANT SEAT FOR THE RIDE HOME!!! Unless you plan to breastfeed, you might want to have a bottle on hand. The hospital will probably provide you with formula for the ride home. Have a pacifier, just in case and take several diapers depending on how far you live from the hospital. Also, I took juice for when I was in labor. If you have any other questions, talk to a nurse at the hospital where you plan to give birth. Most importantly, RELAX!!! You'll be ok. Good luck and God bless!
  10. Definetly dont forget baby wipes. The hospital only gives you dry paper towel like pieces and the babies first few poopies are really tar-like. Much easier to clean with a wet baby wipe. Take home outfit-receiving blanket-They have diapers and formula- desitin-spring jacket/snowsuit whatever the season may be-onesie-socks if needed depending on outfit-mittens for hands, so he/she can not scratch themself-hat
  11. I echo what everyone said, but I would also suggest bringing a DVD player/DVD's/extra books and magazines. I had a C-section and was in the hospital Thurs.-Mon., so the days got pretty long. Also, as someone else said, I suggest bringing your own pillow.
  12. if you are breast feeding, you will need breast pads, a nursing bra, and a nusing pillow if you are using one. You will need an outfit for the baby to go home in, a few rec'ing blankets ( I didn't likethe hospital ones), and a hat for the baby (thehospital will usually give you one). You will need a robe/slippers. A pair of warm socks ( trust me on this- I hate socks and I needed some). Several pairs of underwear, sanitary pads ( the hospita lmay give you some), toiletriees. I also brought my own pillows. Assuming you live close to the hospital- that's all you really is a change of clothes for you and the baby. I wore my PJ's home. It was a 5 minute drive and with a c-section it was a lot more comfortable.
  13. We're gettting ready to pack for our second time. I would suggest a book or a magazine for when the baby is sleeping. Comfy slippers for when you get to get up and walk around. We picked out outfits for both a boy and a girl depending on what we have for the baby's first trip home. If you have a certain drink you like, maybe bring that so you are as comfortable as possible.
  14. For you: Outfit for home (maternity clothes still) Nightgowns (2 at least - didn't like wearing hospital gowns) 3 pairs of maternity undies 3 pairs of socks slippers Personal care - deodorant, toothpaste/brush, hair brush, ponytail holder, hairdryer (if hospital doesn't have one), shampoo conditioner, make up (for pics!) Breastfeeding items - nursing pads (may not need them just yet), lanisoh cream for your nipples, boppy pillow (but hospital ones do just fine too) Baby - outfit to go home, blanket...pretty much everything else is given to you : brush, diapers, wipes, nasal aspirator, thermometer, etc. They wear hospital t shirts while there, so clothes for them aren't needed. Video camera and still camera You can leave the baby's bag at home until the day you leave, have hubby bring it. You may want lotions, cd's, mags, etc for labor, but I never ever even thought of them at all during my labor.... Best wishes! EDIT - bring the baby book or journal to record your thoughts for your baby! You will have some of the sweetest moments occur in your life over the 3 days in hospital (many more after too) but I wish I had her book there so I could write it all down while I watched her sleep.
  15. When you get out of the hospital you will need an outfit for the baby, one for you. I brought a light rob and was very happy I did. Bring a nursing bra or three, a boppy. Do not bring underwear you won't be using them, you get these funny mesh ones and pads from the hospital as well as diapers, bath soap, a thermometer, binky, a cute little basket with some goodies in it that differ hospital to hospital. Baby will get a I was born at t-shirt so if you want baby to go home in that you won't even need an outfit! Oh, infant socks work better than scratch mitts bring some of those and a pair of baby nail clippers those aren't provided. I also overpacked! Didn't know the hospital provided so much!
  16. Nappies. Clothes. You will need at least 3 babygros and vests. Try to buy easy fastening babygros and vests. It is incredible how fragile your baby feels even at a good weight and to start with you need to practice so back fastening is too much of a challenge! Do not forget that your baby might be larger than average so unless you know you are having a small baby ensure you buy the correct size! Muslin Squares. Who could believe that simple squares of fabric will become such a major part of ones life! To start they are fantastic for wiping up all manner of drips and sick and eventually many become essential comforters for the baby itself! Outfit for going home. All hospitals are very warm so it is essential that your baby has something suitable, depending on the time of year, to leave the hospital in. This may mean a warm coat and socks and booties but will always mean a hat! A blanket is also useful for the first trip outside. Car seat. You will not be allowed to leave the hospital without a car seat! Practice fitting this into your car at home so that you do not struggle while your baby is in it!
  17. For you-> shampoo, face wash, a couple washcloths, chapstick, some change for munchies, and a book to get into for your downtime, a camera, a change of clothes. For baby -> a carseat to take baby home, a few outfits (you dont know the size of your baby, diapers and wipes, blanket, and nail clippers to clip their nails so they dont scratch up their face. everything else will be available to you.
  18. for labor: -lip gloss -cd's (something calming) -cd player (my husband brought our laptop instead) Hopsital stay -nursing gown (it feels good to get out of that hospital gown once they let you shower) -nursing bra -outfit for baby to go home in (including a hat) -receiving blanket for baby -outfit for you to go home in (either sweats or maternity pants - you'll still have some belly) -$$ or snacks for dad (so he can stay by your side or only have to go down to the cafeteria) -calling card or cell phone (check your hospital's policy) -notepad (for keeping track of gifts people bring you in the hospital)
  19. bring two take home outfits for the baby just in case of an accident! Also, when you pack for you make sure the outfit is not a pre-pregnancy one. I went with a loose stretchy skirt because I didn't want to try wrestling with pants after everything else. bring socks for you because if you get an epidural, and even sometimes if you don't, you feet get cold while legs are in the stirrups. Sugar free lollipops since they will help with dry mouth when they won't let you drink.quarters for the payphone, or your cellies. List of everyone you want called. A Robe. I don't care if you don't use one at home, you don't want to be stuck in bed at the hospital because you would be too embarrassed to walk around blowing int he breeze! You will definitely want to get up off your rear (which will be understandably sore and tired of sitting)!slippers or those socks that have the rubber sticky things on the bottom. If you are going ot breastfeed, then a boppy to help with positioning. A good nursing bra if breastfeeding. mp3 player to tune out the hubby and the sports channel he puts the TV on while you are in labor lol. books for the downtime while in labor and drugged.About all I can think of for now. Good Luck and a quick painless labor and healthy baby to you!

  21. Breastfeeding pillow. I forgot mine, and had to make my husband go back and get it for me. It is so much easier to learn if you have it. I recommend the My Brest Friend pillow if you don't have one yet.
