Diapers Q&A

How many cloth diapers should I take on an outing?

How many cloth diapers should I take with me while running errands, going to the store, and/or dining at a restaurant? I will be bringing along the diapers that will already have the insert in them ahead of time. Also, should I bring 1 regular diaper bag (for clean diapers, ointment, wipes) and 1 waterproof bag (for soiled)? Should I bring flushable/biodegradable liners, as well? Thank you! Forgot to add that I'm due with our first on April 11th. New to cloth diapering.

  2. Figure a diaper an hour for a newborn, one for every 2 hours for an older baby. Then add one extra. And always change the baby just before you leave the house. Bring a gallon-sized Ziploc bag (or other waterproof bag) for the dirties, and just stick it in your diaper bag. No need for two bags, so long as you keep the diaper storage separate from, say, snack storage. I don't use the liners -- but if you use them, bring a couple, I guess.
  3. well how many diapers does your baby usually go through?? thats what you should ask yourself how often do you change him/her........ if its 1 every 2hrs and you plan on being gone 4hrs then to be safe i'd bring like 3 or 4......... but really i think your putting too much thought into it, lol i just usually shove a bunch of diapers, whipes, ect ect in a bag a bunch of "just incase" stuff will not hurt anything, better be safe than sorry, or you can try this...... i keep a "emergancy bag" in my car that has a few extra diapers, whipes, and two outfit changes. that when if i didnt bring enough or thought my outting would be much shorter than it was im never w/out.
  4. my friend in Austin TX is startin a diaper line. They are great b/c they close in the back so the little one cant take them off. I love these diapers. You just have to visit the site. happyendingsdiapers.com she is really exicted she just got a diaper deal with a manufactorer. Best of luck to Julliet!
  5. When I go out with my son in pocket diapers, I add extra inserts into the ones he's wearing so he can last a bit longer and bring along 3 diapers, just in case. I bring along his diaper bag with wipes (be careful about creams, as some of them can ruin cloth diapers if you don't use a liner) and then put a wet bag in the diaper bag. I was out for 4 hours last time and only needed to change him once. The liners are good if baby poops and then you can easily clean it up. When you're done changing baby, roll up the diaper and put it in the wetbag. I toss the wetbag in the diaperbag as well.
