Diapers Q&A

Using cloth diapers- still leaking at night. What else can I do? Which are the best to use at night?

I have tried the jam tots plush diaper, but it leaked within a few hours. Last night we used fuzzi bunz. It worked much better, with a hemp insert plus an extra insert on top, but somehow it seemed to leak out the side. Is there a certain diaper that is better to use at night? Or do cloth diapers tend to leak at night? We don't have any problems during the day. My son lays on his side at night, which I think contributes to the leaking. Thanks.

  1. change every hour or two.
  2. buy some rubber pants and put on him at nite, my two children slept in them when they were small.
  3. I think you're supposed to put those plastic underwear on over the cloth diaper.
  4. This is funny for me, and brings back memories of when my boy used to be younger and would wake up SOAKED! Here is what I found out worked best for me. WE dont use cloth diapers, although I really would have loved to try, but it just didnt work out, due to how expensive the shipping is in my area... I live in Hawaii! I notived with my son, he starts to leak whenever the diaper is too full, A. And the diaper is too small, B. You might want to try to get some of those plastic lined pants... They are made my GERBER. You can put them over the cloth diaper. THIS is the MAIN reason why they "leak" out the side... MY pediatrician and mother explained this to me. With BOYS, when they're sleeping, they ussually get a little "Woody". (Erection) And they dont even realize whats going on, but when the "ding" is making potty in the diaper, it kind of shoots out the top. And that causes them to get their clothes wet, and not when they're awake, in the day their diapers dont have that problem. But, at night when they're flat, they do! I just would shut the diaper tighter. When you are taking the sides of the cloth diaper make sure you make them TIGHT around the tummy. That way, when they cloth raises up a little from the wetness, it still stays tight. OR, you could try to switch to disposable diapers. I actually have tried EVERY diaper KNOWN to man! The BEST ones are made from Kirkland, at Costco. THEY are the MOST absorbant and BEST for boys, in my opinion. MY cousin has 4 boys, they ALL wore the costco diapers too! And I have tried EVERY brand! But, the COSTCO is the BEST! Good luck! K
  5. I've found great luck with my 18-month-old by double stuffing a pocket dipe with 2 Joeybunz Premiums hemp/cotton fleece inserts. This kid can completely soak a Pampers, but *usually* wakes up nice and dry with the Joeybunz. Try using two of ANY hemp insert, since they're more absorbent and seem to hold the pee better without it getting wrung out between chubby thighs. Oh, and I use GADs fleece pockets at night, if you were wondering.
  6. I have 3 kids. I started using cloth diaper, fuzzy bunz and bum genius, on my 3rd baby and love it. The only thing I don't like about is side leaking, just like your boy's. I think the reason is just too much pee. During the day you change more often but at night you dont, so it leaks. So I decided to use disposal diaper at night (and when we go out for long time) and it hardly ever leaks. I cannot remember which site, but on the website it says better to use extra insert at night for more protection, but it will be so bulky..!
  7. You definately want to invest in Tiny Tush Elite! They are by far the best cloth diapers! (i used every kind out there until i found these). The Tiny Tush Elites are adjustable so that they have the best fit and grow with your child from birth to 35 pounds! also, they have a water proof shell that is still breathable and does not leak. I used this for both of my children and never had a leak and only once had an insidence of diaper rash ( i had switched wiper solution) Oh and these were so easy that even my husband could use them.
  8. We used a fuzzi bunz or gad with two hemp inserts inside it. Also, we found that a hemp prefold like thirsties worked very well with a wool cover over it kept our super soaker little boy dry at night. Another option would be to use a fitted such as those sold at www.clothdiaperexchange.com called "made by me" they are made by the owner of the site and are really absorbant. You would use a cover over thse such as a wool cover or a Bummis or Bumkins or Thirsties cover. Also, I know this sounds silly but we would change our son into his night time diaper the VERY last thing at night. Just having the diaper hold "one less pee" seemed to help! Congrats on cloth diapering!
