Diapers Q&A

Month old baby cries when changing diapers and clothes?

My 1 month old baby boy screams whenever I change his clothes or his diaper - is this normal and if so, will he grow out of it? I always make sure we are in a warm place and I change him as quickly as I can but when he is crying and trying to move around so much it makes it even more difficult. Is there anything I can do to get him to stop crying so much?

  1. sounds normal maybe your hands are cold.
  2. My oldest son was like that. don't worry
  3. My girl hated being naked until she was a few months old. It really isn't that unusual. Don't worry about it. :-)
  4. Rest assured, it is very normal. Babies this age are very sensitive to the change in temperature even though it is still warm enough for them, and they also prefer the feeling of being closely wrapped as it is calming. They do outgrow it bit by bit as they get just a little older. Hang in there.
  5. maybe play some music to soothe him
  6. my 7 month old is like that right now...not every time...but it's horrible. Make sure there's no diaper rash & maybe give him a toy to keep him occupied or sing to him while doing it.... I try to make the changing a game...like "where's your arm....give me that arm" & all that stuff.
  7. My children did the same. They do grow out of this and will begin to wiggle a whole lot more. Just be patient it takes time.
  8. Yes its very normal for a baby to cry when you change them. My son is now 3 months old and still will cry when I put clothes on him at night for bed. Just be genital with him when you change him and make sure that he is not tired or hungry when you change his clothes. Try to change him in the morning after you have feed him and he should start doing better for you.
  9. nope not normal...............do a check..........my nepfew was like that once and my mom told me so i did a change for him and discover his tes.... are red and swollen. still i should not be a doctor so seek medical help ASAP
  10. I'm sure he is just cold. It's pretty normal for babies to not like thier diapers or clothes changed. My daughter is 15 months now and she always cried when I changed her diapers when she was smaller. I bought a wipe warmer for the winter months and that seemed to help with the diaper changes. Although she still hates the first thing in the morning diaper change. She did grow out of the changing clothes thing because now she prefers to run around with just a diaper.
  11. Some babies hate having their clothes taken off. Others love and I mean love to be naked. It all depends. Just make sure you stay calm. Babies pick up on your feelings. Have a happy face and tickle the body part you're moving. So make it into a game rather than a duty. Maybe you're going to quick. He might be getting scared with you moving so fast. He may just hate being changed. There's some babies that no matter what you do they wiggle and struggle when you're changing them. If you're doing it when he wakes up or before he's been fed he may be telling you he wants to eat first. Crying and struggling is the only way he can tell you it's not what he wants right now. My last suggestion is give him a paci while you change him. It gives him something to do.
  12. That is totally normal. My 6-month old daughter still does that, thankfully not at EVERY changing anymore, but at most of them. Make sure he is not cold, try warming your hands up first. Make sure he does not have a diaper rash. Also you can try giving him a toy to play with or try laying a receiving blanket across his chest, it will give him something to look at, touch, and it gives him more a secure feeling while laying on his back. The receiving blanket trick works most of the time with my daughter. Good luck! And yes, they do eventually grow out of it!
  13. Do you use baby wipes? If so wet the baby wipes with hot water, the baby wipes are cold and can shock the baby and they end up crying because something cold touched them. We always we our baby wipes with hot water before we use them. Mother of a 5 month old.
  14. My one month old son does the same thing and so did his big brother. I think its normal. Just try and change him as fast as you can lol.
