Diapers Q&A

for the women who used cloth diapers on their babies...?

how long did you use them for? did you have to buy multiple sizes or how often did you have to change diapers? i was down right set on cloth diapers then i remembered how the baby grows and would out grow the diapers... i'm a bit confused is there a one size fits all? lol sorry just new. i'm 12 weeks preggers but already preparing... thanks bunches for the answers! :)

  1. this diaper is awesome and highly affordable. all of the question asked are on this site... happyendingsdiapers.com
  2. if you use the terry square ones then one size does fit all; you just fold them differently as the baby grows. tailored diapers you will have to change size if you buy them. try this link: http://www.thediaperhyena.com
  3. There are a LOT of advances in cloth diapering since we were kids. There are many different choices, so many that I found it overwhelming. There are some kinds of cloth diapers that are one-size. Probably the most popular is a brand called Bum Genius, available here http://www.bumgenius.com/one-size.php I use prefolds with my daughter, which aren't necessarily one size, but she's been wearing the same size for a long time. I chose them because they seemed to be the simplest to care for. As far as how often to change your baby, it's best to change her as soon as she's wet or shortly thereafter. When your peanut is tiny, that is very very often. As often as every 20-30 minutes. But, more frequent diaper changes, with disposable or cloth, are associated with lower occurance of diaper rash. Now that my daughter is nearly 8 months old, I give a "wetsy check" every hour at the latest. More often she needs changing before then. It's better to start now then get caught in the cold if your baby comes early! My daughter was 5 weeks early and I wasn't prepared with all my cloth neccessities so we used disposables for a few months. I am so glad to be on cloth now! Her bottom is softer, I'm saving money, and have less waste to boot! 4. The secret is how you fold the diapers. For little boys, you put the fullness in the front. For little girls, the fullness goes mid-line to back. Change diapers before you feed your little angel, and if you know they have a soiled diaper change it quickly. Use only one diaper at a time for newborns. As they grow, you can double at night time or use diaper inserts. By the time they are a year old, they should be ready for pottie training, many start before that time. The one positive aspect of cloth is they can feel when they are wet sooner, so they do potty train easier. Just be carefull when laundering. Acid from the urine and bleach make a toxic and harmful gas. Use laundry soap specially designed for baby laundry and you will not have that problem.
  5. Here are reviews of some one size diapers: http://www.diaperpin.com/diapers/itemlist.asp?subcat=ONESIZE I've cloth diapered 3 babies and I'll use cloth on my next when he (or she) gets here in October. I used Gerber prefolds from Walmart on my first two. Do NOT use those! They SUCK! Get quality diapers, even if they cost a bit more. My personal faves are Green Acre Designs fleece pocket diapers. I just love those things. :-) You can get more information about dipes at http://www.diaperswappers.com and http://www.diapertraders.com where you can also buy used ones, if that doesn't gross you out. (Almost all of mine are used.) Enjoy your fluff!
