Cloth diapers.... Diaper Covers/Wraps vs. Diaper Pins?
My baby isn't even here yet and my mom and I are having "discussions" already!! My mom is having a hard time picturing why you don't need diaper pins to hold a pre-fold in place. She is still imagining using the rubber pants that were used on me some 25 odd years ago. She really has not seen the new wraps/covers that are out there, (Bummis, Thirsties, etc.) and she just doesn't understand why you don't need diaper pins anymore. Can anyone help explain this more clearly? I've tried and it doesn't seem to get through... She has sort of seen a picture, but she still doesn't understand.... She can be pretty thick so I don't know if it will ever be "resolved" per se. I've tried telling her that it holds everything in place like a disposable diaper and nothing really floats around in there.... I don't know how else to explain it!

- Did you show her a picture? Or do you have one there that you can physically show her?
- Have you looked at diaperpin.com? They have a FAQ and how to section that might help you explain it to her. http://www.diaperpin.com/howto.asp That faq isn't very good, sorry. :( How about showing her a picture, here's a pic/explanation of bumGenius: http://www.jilliansdrawers.com/store/bumgeniusorganicallinone.html Hm... sounds like you're right, she probably won't understand it until she actually sees one. The best you can do is explain that the all-in-ones are essentially the same as disposables... except you wash them instead of tossing them. If she doesn't get that, I don't know what else you can say!
- You should just buy some & show her. I never used diaper pins, just folded the diaper around baby's bumm & velcroed the diaper cover around them. Although I did find that 2 cloth diapers folded together worked better than one. Good Luck!
- Tough one... Prefolds are folded into a cover and the cover is fastened onto the baby. It is snug fitting like disposables and will hold a prefold in place. Think of it kind of like underwear holding a nonstick sanitary pad in place. It works just fine. Your mom is kind of right though. Older babies and younger toddlers often are too mobile to have a prefold stay where it needs to be inside of a wrap. It helps to pin or snappie the prefold onto a really mobile baby and then cover it with a wrap. Newborns are going to be fine, but as they get bigger things don't quite work as easily. http://www.babyworks.com/catalog/product.asp?dept%5Fid=14&pf%5Fid=1406&gclid=CK71nL-FkJQCFR4vagodGhsMeQ
- Hi funny enough i decided yesterday that i' m going to be switching to cloth diapers as well..lol...here is a great site that will help you and answer all the questions you just asked here....http://www.diaperpin.com/clothdiapers/ar... A friend of mine has been using them for quite some time now and she loves it...you can buy starter kits...there are approx..24 diapers vary in sizes...from newborn to toddler...the great thing is you may think only 24 diapers but you'll never use all of them before having to do a load...:) go to this site to view some of the cute diapers...http://www.nickisdiapers.com/ Hope this helps you out...if your from the states the web sites above are U.S. and if your from canada like me you can google it at www.google.ca and they are all canadian companies with pics...good luck! :) EDIT: Tailor fitted diaper with Velcro or snap closures so cloth diaper fits closely to baby. Requires no folding and uses a waterproof diaper cover....they wrap tightly around their legs...Pocket diapers are diaper cover that has an opening for a folded Chinese prefold diaper or specially designed insert to be placed into the opening. This is a two part cloth diapering system and all in one diapers have an inner absorbent layer attached to an outer waterproof layer with adjustable closures (either Velcro® or snaps). And all-in-one diapers are just like disposable diapers except you wash them! You would probably like the all in one diapers..those are the ones i'm going to switch to...:)
- explain to her about the 'snappi' makes pins obsolete (though you may never use one it should at least satisfy her that you do not NEED pins) i love my snappis, but sometimes i just use the cover and prefold with no snappi (usually when i am low on prefolds and just use a couple of flats)
