My dog is in her heat cycle. Will doggie diapers work?

My dog stays outside during the day, but we don't have a fence. She just went into her heat cycle and I have a meeting coming up out of town for a day. I'm worried that while she is outside, a neighbors dog might get her. Is there anything that will be affective for me to use on her while I am gone to prevent this from happening? Do dog diapers or pants really work? Any other options?

1. I'd suggest taking her to the kennel for a day. I know where I live, the Pet Hotel costs $10.00 a day, but then I have a cat, but if you really don't want her getting pregnant, it might be worth the effort and the cost. -Em
2. No this will not work buy a crate and keep her inside at the very least in a garage. How can your dog stay outside without a fence do you have an electric one? You need to secure her somewhere where no dogs can get to her or her to any other dogs and supervise every moment out. If you can not do this you need to have her spayed as soon as possible

4. WEll, a doggie diaper is a great way to keep her clean, but it is NOT a birth control method. The only way to keep her from getting pregnant is to keep her inside the house, since you don't have any fenced area. If you leave her outside, I GUARANTEE some male dog withing 3 miles WILL get her pregnant. Even a fenced area is not a safe place for her if you have a neighboring male who's a good climber. You really have to have an outdoor fenced area which CANNOT be dug under and has a hot wire at bottom and top, or a roof of some kind, even if it's chicken wire. You can put her in a crate if she's not house trained. If you leave her inside, whether in a crate or not, you need to arrange for someone to come feed her and take her for a walk ON LEASH ONLY. The suggestion to put her in a doggie day care or commercial kennel for the day was also a good one, but it's not that cheap in my area. You'll have to check prices in your area. You should also get her spayed as soon as possible. That will solve the problem. -!-

6. Doggie diapers will work to a point. Dog diapers are mainly used for cleanliness and not protection of getting pregnant. If you leave a female in heat outside where every male can have access to her, I promise you, the males will find a way to get to her regardless of the diaper. I would not leave her outside. Is there a garage, a friend or a kennel you could leave her with/put her in? Please have her spayed ASAP.
