Can you use baby powder with cloth diapers?
I know you can't use creams. I have a variety of pocket style diapers right now, and am getting more of the bum genius 3.0's. Will powder effect the absorbency of the diapers?

- The baby powder will give your baby a rash!
- Of course you can. (Baby powder was invented long before disposible diapers were invented!) However, it's not necessary, and isn't generally recommended at all. (Regardless of the type of diaper.) (If you do use it, shake it into your hand, then pat gently onto baby's bottom.)
- Powder shouldn't hurt the diapers, but creams aren't completely off limits. You can use creams that don't contain petroleum. Burt's Bees makes a petroleum-free cream. You can also use zinc oxide or even olive oil. I use Burt's Bees when needed (which is very rare), and I've also used a balm called Baby Bottom Better which is made of calendula, olive oil, and bees wax. I've also used Caldesene- a powder that contains zinc oxide.
- You may use powder if you like, but I really recommend that you dont, it tends to give lots more diaper rash. Just rub a bit of oliver oil and witch hazel on baby's bottom and it will be fine. Olive oil and witch hazel break down in detergent.
- don't use 'baby powder' even with disposables - it has been linked to cervical cancer - use CORNSTARCH. actually you can use any type of ointment with cloth - i do and have had no problem with buildup - i line dry occasionally and there is always washing in hot water a few times to remove any buildup - but then again, i rarely have to use anything - with summer here though - i have started using cornstarch more
