Cloth diaper question....please help?
I use prefold cloth diapers for my 4 month old son...and plastic pants. Right now I am using the Gerber brand that you can buy at Babies R Us. I am currently using 6-9 month old plastic pants. I need to buy some larger sized diapers online because my son will soon outgrow the ones I have now. My son is a large baby (18 lbs.). If I buy toddler sized cloth diapers can I get away with using them in a month or so if I fold over the fronts? I also want to buy some softer covers, rather than the plastic pants. Can I also get a larger size without having problems with leaks? My son has very good sized legs and thighs so the plastic pants seem to dig into his skin leaving red marks. Will the softer covers do the same thing? Help please...I want to purchase these things in the next couple of days and need advice. Thanks!

- Try prowrap covers.
- You will be fine moving up to the toddler diapers now, they may be a little bulky for awhile, but the folded front will be more absorbent. I like the diapers from this site better than the gerber diapers, they are softer and more absorbent: http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/ For soft covers there are a lot of options out there, some nicer than others. I liked prowraps, they are affordable and can be reused a few times a day before the need to be put in the hamper.
- I'm sure you could make the larger diapers work, but there might be more bulk than you'd like. As for the covers, I used the Gerber ones with my two oldest and hated them! I don't like seeing red rings around my babies' thighs and waists! What kind of covers were you thinking about getting? For my third baby I knitted my own soakers and they're nice and soft. I also made one fleece cover which was wonderful! I've heard a lot of nice things about Stacinators and I'm planning to buy some for the next baby, one in fleece and one in wool. Anyway, about the sizing...you could ask at http://www.diaperswappers.com or http://www.diapertraders.com about the particular covers you're interested in and see if mommies who have used them would think they'd fit well enough. If the covers have good elastic and a lot of stretch they might do okay, especially if your baby has tree trunk thighs like my kiddos did. So ask other mommies if they're stretchy enough to be comfortable for chubby baby, but snug enough to prevent leaks. I hope you get some useful answers. :)
