What size baby clothes/ diapers should I buy?
My friend is having a baby in January. I want to buy her lots of diapers and baby clothes, and I would love your advice on what sizes to get. It's hard to know what size the baby is going to be. I've heard that you only need newborn-sized diapers for like 2 weeks, and that babies grow out of the newborn-sized clothes very soon, like a month. Since it will be a winter baby, I'd love to buy it a cozy, warm once-piece (to wear outdoors) that will be useful for a few months. Thanks in advance for your own experiences and advice!

- I think the stage 1 or newborn diapers last longer than that! my son was in those for at least a month and i went through a few packs bc you change diapers so often, especially if the baby will be breastfed! I would buy clothes sizes 0-3 months, that will last also for at least 1 month, probably 2. i know people always say to buy the next size up, but the baby will need something to wear right away too!
- i love Pampers Swaddler diapers (in the yellow bags)a and yes; newborns grow out of the "newborn" sizes quite quickly esp if she has a baby in the 7lb - 9lbs i would buy her size1 diapers .. those r your safest bet - maybe purchase one pack of the newborn ones ... and as for the clothes .. go for the 3-6 months rather than the 0-3 months .. bigger is better than smaller right? so yeah best of luck :)
- Get her sizes 0-3 months and 3-6 months clothes and possibly size 1 diapers. I have 2 sons and pregnant with out third. My first son was born in December and wore those sizes through winter and spring season... hope this helped..
- if you are looking for a bunting coat, most will come in 0-9 month so it will be good all winter. most babies can skip newborn diapers altogether and go straight into size 1, dont even bother with "newborn" sized clothing, both my kids outgrew those within 1 week, 0-3 or even some 3-6,or higher, its always nice to get some clothes in a little bigger size since evryone will be getting 0-3. if you get diapers (and you want alot) babies r us sells the big boxes, 1 of those in size 1 and 1 in size 2 should last her a while
- Size 1 diapers, also size 3/6 month clothing. I am also having a winter baby and this is what I've been buying, newborn clothes are outgrown within 1-2 weeks and diapers as well, we always just buy size 1 diapers at our house, just gives baby extra room for about a week. Also, if you want cute things, try Kohl's they have added their winter lineup of clothes and they have amazing deals, tons of buy 1 get 1 free outfits, little sweaters, PJ's, pants, jackets, etc... Great stuff.
- Hmm. What about buying a few starter items such as two-packs of Newborn or Size 1 diapers, some clothes, perhaps a bathing kit; but then buy a prepaid "credit" card or gift card for use after that? Or, as she will be busy with the baby, maybe offer to go shopping for diapers and clothes after the baby is born; or to baby sit for an hour while she goes out. Cheers!
- All babies are different sizes. My daughter is 2 months old and still in newborn size diapers (pampers swaddlers, they are the best!) i have gone through literally hundreds so far....as far as clothes, once again depends on the size of the baby, but mine is still in either newborn or 0-3 months size. She is a really tall and skinny baby. i would get newborn diapers, and either 0-3 month or 3-6 month size clothes! Hope that helps! :)
- My 2nd baby 7 weeks old weighed 7lbs 11 ozs and we are using size 1 she can still fit in newborn. we have used like 5 big packs of diapers and a large diaper cake already. if you are giving diapers the diaper cake is great it looks really cute and dresses up a really practical gift you can look on line to see how to make one they are expensive to buy already made and they are super easy to put together. I also like the pampers swaddlers great diapers. as for baby clothes my little one still wears newborn size the 0-3 months are way too big on her. I would get some of each that way the baby will have something that fits him or her but mom will also have some larger outfits that baby can grow into. it also depends on where you shop some places newborn size is bigger like at target their newborn size is like some places 0-3 babiesrus clothes are also a little bigger as is oldnavy. sleepers are great they cover the feet so you dont have to worry about socks coming off.
- Get her a gift card to her nearest diaper carrying store. That way she can get what she needs when she needs it and she won't have to store excess diapers. Maybe you could give a month or so of a diaper service if one is available.
- I would buy some 1 and 2 diapers just in case she gets a lot from people and so she has some once he grows. I was left with about 200 stage 1 diapers from people buying me them. Clothes I would say 3-6 or 6-9 once for similar reasons. I had lots of 0-3 stuff and very little of the bigger stuff. I think it makes it easier once the baby is growing out of his smaller clothes if you already have some larger stuff ready to go. I would get the cozy one piece for sure probably a size 0-3.
- Wait until the baby is born before buying the clothing. It could weigh anyway from 5 - 15 pounds so clothing bought now will be too big or too small. You also need to know what colours to buy. I gave away most of the clothing given as gifts because it was too small or fit during the wrong season (you can't wear snow suits in the middle of summer).
- well, she will probably get more than enough nb and 0-3 mos....but u could try 3-6 mos, just keep in mind that they may need to have tags on them in case baby is extra big or small, and they don't fit at the right time of year.....if u are set on a one piece, i would maybe go for 0-3 if you want it to be able to wear it within the first couple of months....possibly from birth depending on size of brand and size of baby...all brands run differently....my dd is 2 mos and is wearing nb in things still that don't involve pants (she's a string bean, long and lean, LOL); size 1 diapers, but she wore the nbs diaps for at least a month cause she was so slim (7lb 6oz) but long....and could probably still wear the huggies nb diaps as they ran big....but her nb or 0-3 pants look like capris..LOL...take the parents shapes and sizes into consideration...although my hub and i are thin, we aren't that tall! LOL btw, she's too long to wear the 0-3 sleepers with feet, but the 3-6 sleepers are huge around her....probably confused you more than helped, but i guess what i am trying to say is keep your receipt handy just in case...:)
