did I miss anything that we need?
Okay, I think I've developed a pretty good list of things we need. I did it mainly so I have something to go off of when registering...I wasn't too specific on things like clothes because we'll get a bunch anyway and already have some. I have ?'s next to things I'm not sure if we really need or not...so please glance over this if you'd like and let me know if I missed anything or if I question marked something that you found was a necessity or if I need to question mark something. thanks! Larger items: Carseat Stroller Changing table (?) Bassinet Bouncer Pack n play (?) Diaper bag Infant swing (?) Night light (?) - Looks like you pretty much covered everything. I would recommend getting a pack n play if you travel or go anywhere, I use mine all the time if we go stay at family's house so that you have a place for the baby to sleep. Its very handy to pack up and I used mine alot. But it looks like you have a pretty good list.
- If you're going to breast feed, a Boppy pillow would be a great idea!
- you forgot the kitchen sink...! lol, just kidding. you seem to have everything, good job!!!
- LoL WOW....i think you bout got everything. Your gonna be a wonderful mommy. Congradulations!! Take care.
- Awesome! You made a list for me! Thanks a bunch! Due: 12/27/08
- Wow, it looks like you have pretty much everything listed, how about some lullabye music, rocking chair, baby book so you can write down all the cute stuff your baby does, and a camera to take all those precious pics. Congrats
- You look very prepared!! Gas drops were a must with my LO because he was so hard to burp and you have it on here I think, but receiving blankets, for the first 6 months of his life I went through SO MANY! I used them for everything. Diaper rash cream, may I suggest Boudreauxs butt paste, AMAZING. cleared up everything my son ever had down there. One last thing, since I gather you are formula feeding, decide if you will use nursery water or tap water. Nursery water is lik .70 a gallon and doesn't have a lot of the "stuff" tap water does. I use tap, but my bestie only uses nursery water. Good Luck and Congrats!
- i would suggest a diaper jeanie. they work wonders!! those diapers are stinky little things and they hide it COMPLETELY!!
- i don't think that these are necessary Bath thermometer Sun shades for car window
- u dont use salt anymore for the 'nipples'... just sterilise them! u dont need a changing table.. u can just get a changing mat! but yeah i think u have covered everything! oh remember a coat, mittens and also scratch mittens are good to stop ur baby from scratching themselves!
- I would say yes to almost all of the stuff with the exception of the changing table we used the changing table on the pack play. I used to put a flannel receiving blanket on it so that I wouldn't be laying her on the cold plastic. Plus it was easy clean-up since I just had to change the blanket. And a pack and play sheet. And a sleep sack or a swaddle me blanket . I would reccoemnd the swaddle me blanket over a sleep sack. I have never heard of using salt for cleaning nipples. And for the bottles make sure to get bpa free ones. I still have baby shampoo left over from my shower and my daughter is now 3 years old. We always used the Johnson and Johnson head to toe wash on her hair and body.
- Baby powder Change table will save your back and make life easy Thermal bottle carrier is a must have Dont need salt for cleaning nipples Only buy the gas drops if you need them Sun shades are a must have Dont need a bath thermometor unless you doubt your ability to judge the water temp. Night light is handy for night feeds and changing so you dont have a brightly lit room but only use it for feeds and changing
- I found it cheaper to get a pack and play with changing table attachement and bassinet, you kill 3 birds with one stone that way! Also due to this whole new BPA in bottles thing i switched to the playtex Drop-In system, no sterilizing bottles every night and alot less work for the new drop dead tired Mommy i suspect (we wil need all the help we can get lol) I had questions about the bottle warming bit...and most people have told me that they just used room temp water....
- It looks like you have a really good list. One thing that I tell every new parent to get (It has saved us so many nights!) is a swaddler. Babies love being swaddled (and mine would only sleep when he was) and they make special swaddler blanket things with velcro tabs. They are wonderful! I don't think a changing table is a necessity. I'm pregnant with our second and we aren't going to set one up. I would get the pack n play, but not the bassinet. They don't stay in a bassinet more than a few weeks and really it isn't necessary. I definitely get a swing and a night light (you will want to see where you are going when you stumble in to give out that 3am bottle) Changing pads are a must, especially if you forgo the changing table. A bath thermometer is not a necessity, just use your good judgment. A sun shade for the car is a nice thing to have on hand. The gas drops....well, I never thought they did a darn thing, but I have some on hand for this time anyway. They at least make you think you are doing something. I've never even heard of salt for cleaning nipples! I had a thermal bottle carrier for my first and used it ALL the time. This time though I have seen that they have come out with premeasured 8oz Similac bottles that you can buy. Those look great! I'm definitely going to buy some. Well, that's my two cents! good luck!
- I've never used salt for cleaning nipples...so not sure that's necessary. I clean mine with soap and hot water (latex ones) or steam sterilize them (silicone ones). I would tell you to definitely spend the $$ and get a swing. If your baby is fussy and it calms her, it will be a lifesaver those first few weeks! Get one secondhand or borrow a friend's if you can, though, in case your baby hates it. As for night lights, go ahead and get one or two. I bumped my daughter's head against a dresser one night before I got one and felt AWFUL! Finally, I second the Boppy pillow. It is not just for breastfeeding! You can lay baby on it while you give a bottle, or prop him/her up in it and have your hands free for a bit. They are great! Hope this helps some. Good luck!
- Don't forget the 'BABY ON BOARD' warning for the back window for the car......with all the idiot drivers. A mobile for the crib is really helpful too, because it has moving creatures and it plays soft music with a dim light. It helped my lil girl go to sleep really fast. And I didn't see you list a crib....I'm thinking you did get one though. Play pins are really helpful too. The thermal bottle carrier will come in handy, even when they are older. You will defiantly need the gas drops. I just put them in the baby's formula. Sun shades are a must, cant have sun in babies eyes :) Another thing that wasn't on your list that comes in handy is the baby carrier, the thing that straps over your shoulders and wraps around your back. you put the baby in it. It's good for doing chores around the house.
- sounds like you have it all under control!!! i have a 2 yr old and 8 month old twins. I recommend the change table, you can get them with a built in bath...excellent, great for your back too...no bending over!! I used a monitor with my first but didnt bother with twins, i could hear them easily in my house. Play mats are great. I never had an infant swing, bouncer was good enough, up too you, i had good babies so didnt swing to keep them happy. Night light is good, even a touch lamp so in the night you can have it really dim, keeps them from waking up fully and easier to get them back to sleep! Im not sure what a changing pad is...if its a portable change mat, they do come in handy. I didnt need a thermometer for bath. Gas drops are handy but maybe wait until bub is born..up to you though! With the bottles i only had a sterilizer (microwave) and bottle brush...no need for salts, just wash it in soapy water and all into sterilizer. Thermal bottle warmer is great. It keeps bottles hot (if you use boiling water) for hours...ive never used a bottle warmer...i just heat the kettle a bit or microwave. My only advice would be to get some terry towel nappies...use them folded twice under baby head ( lay it out flat) the hospital did this and it was great for when baby sicks up in cot or even under all bub...(for when they leak nappies) saves washing cot sheets and protector all the time. They are also excellent burp cloths....so handy!! Another great item is a thing that goes in the bath...so you can lay them down on it (its reclined so head is up out of water) and wash them, it was so handy for me...bubs are so slippery when wet!! Ok enough rattling on good luck!!!!
- How about a crib and a crib mattress? Or are you going to just use a bassinet for now? If so, you won't need the crib sheets and waterproof mattress pad quite yet. You're gonna want bassinet sheets too. I'm not sure if bassinets come with them or not. You are going to want that changing table eventually. My boyfriend and I just laid a blanket down and changed our son on the floor for about a month before we got a changing table. For your swing, I recommend the Graco Sweet Peace Soothing Center if you have the money. Our son loved it. It put him right to sleep and kept him asleep longer than if we just put him in his crib. If your diaper bag doesn't come with a changing pad, you're definitely going to want to get one. For your baby bath, I'd go with the 4 Moms Clean Water infant tub. It comes with a built in thermometer and lets you know if the water is getting too hot or too cold and it also flushes the dirty water out and lets clean water flow in. Hospitals will usually give you a nasal aspirator. And thermometers come in most first aid kits (at least mine did, I got the Red Cross first aid kit). When I was pregnant I printed list after list after list, and still didn't feel like I was ready. You have all of the important things, and there are going to be some things that you're not going to think of until after your little one arrives and you'll need to run out and get it. Congrats and good luck!
- Larger items: Carseat Stroller Changing table (?)---I'm buying a pack-n-play with a changing table and bassinet. This makes so much more sense since the bassinet and changing table are such short-term usage items--this way you can get all in one for $90-200, rather than spending $hundreds for all three. Bassinet--See above Bouncer Pack n play (?)--See above Diaper bag Infant swing (?)--I think this is a neccessity because it can be so calming for some babies. I lessened my expense by getting a small take-along swing rather than a big one. But ultimately your choice. Night light (?)--I got a cute one that goes with the theme of the room. Baby monitors Crib sheets Waterproof washable mattress pad *Play-mat--I think this is a neccessity. Diapering: Diapers Wipes Diaper rash cream Pail for diapers Changing pad (?)---You wouldn't need one if you got a 3 in 1 pack n play. Bathing supplies: Baby bath Washcloths Towels Baby shampoo Baby soap/body wash Hair brush and comb--The cool thing is you can buy a baby grooming kit for $20-25 and it has everything..nail clippers, brush, comb, nasal aspirator, thermometer, etc. Nail scissors and clippers Cotton balls Cotton ear buds Bath thermometer (?) *Rubbing alcohol--for baby's belly button Accessories: Pacifiers Nasal aspirator Thermometer Baby first aid kit Sun shades for car window (?) Gas drops (?)--I think you should definitely have these on hand. They can work miracles! Baby Tylenol Feeding: Sterilizing equipment (Microwave, Electric, Chemical or boiling) Bottles Nipples Nipple brush Bottle brush Salt for cleaning nipples (?) Drying rack Formula (? don't know what kind yet of course) Thermal bottle carrier (?) Bottle warmer Clothing: Onesies- all sizes long & short sleeved Sleepers Socks Newborn Hats Bibs Undershirts Outing clothes Blankets Burp cloths Fragrance-free, dye-free detergent Your list looks pretty darn thorough. I added things here and there. I went to babycenter.com and compared mine with the checklists they have and the things I decided were neccessary--that was the easiest way for me to confirm everything was on there. Good luck and congratulations!!
- GREAT JOB!! AS a mom of 3 I thought I would give a little advise on what you dont need because new moms (like me!!!) tend to but everything because they want to make sure baby is covered... So here are my hints and tips for your list! Larger items: Changing table.... REALLY GOOD but not necessary. I hardly ever used mine after my son started to roll around a little. Bassinet...only in place of a crib, but the rocking ones are VERY nice! Bouncer....you won't need for many months and then you want to get one for your child according to his or her personality, much better to wait. Infant swing...nice to have but you can wait... they can scare baby when they are little. Night light...this is a must!! Waterproof washable mattress pad......Really don't need it unless you plan on changing the baby there every time. Diapering: Diapers...dont believe everything...use pampers! The rest leak or dont hold the urine well and can make a wet baby very uncomfortable. Diapers rash cream...use powder when you change and you wont need as much of this Pail for diapers... just use a scented trash bag with a regular can, much less expensive Changing pad....they are great for your diaper bag Bathing supplies: Baby bath...dont get the ones that spray, they suck. Make sure you review them online to make sure you know what your getting. Hair brush and comb...most babies don't have a lot of hair, you prob wont need till later. Nail scissors and clippers...much easier to peel them off( I always did and it doesn't hurt them), if your not careful with the clip's you can cut babys fingers and toes. Cotton ear buds...not a must have but good for in-case's Bath thermometer.... these are for people who have money to spare, you don't need one! Accessories: Baby first aid kit.... babies don't get hurt very often and when they do you end up in the ER anyway, don't waste you $ Sun shades for car window....really good investment, my youngest is four and we still use ours. Gas drops...if you breast feed you won't really need this and if you don't BF just make sure you burp your child often...maybe every one to two ounces. Feeding: Salt for cleaning nipples... noo way, just rinse it right away, or better yet have you other do it! Drying rack...only if you have the counter space Thermal bottle carrier... you'll never use it. Bottle warmer... good at first and then you find other ways Clothing: Socks....LOTS, you will lose a TON Newborn Hats....and mittens never stay on, but good to have Bibs...are gifts for smart mommys! Use them and you won't have stained clothing. Undershirts..are like onesies, you don't need both Burp cloths......LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS! Fragrance-free, dye-free detergent...Dreft is good Hope this helps!
