Diapers Q&A

Diapers.....?

I have been getting A LOT of packages of new born diapers as gifts, and I was just wondering about how many packages of newborn diapers did you go through before your baby moved up to stage 1? I wouldn't think that many, and it would depend on her size at birth, (the doctor said she'll probably be around 7 1/2 pounds at birth if that makes any difference) but I was just curious? .. and also, what brand have you found out to work the best?

  1. I'm sure you'll be fine because newborns go through lots of diapers. Either way if they're unopened you can usually exchange them. I'd hang on to all of them though for now. I like Huggies and Pampers.
  2. when your in the hospital they give you diapers at first until you leave, at least they do here in Canada..dont open the packages, you can still bring them back for bigger sizes. i think i went through (without counting ones hospital gave me) about 3 bags with 74 diapers in each. i used huggies since my baby was born, but just recently i have tried out the pampers and i find they are a better fit to my baby and they hold better throughout the night, congradulations and good luck.
  3. Pampers are good, Luvs are the BEST for heavy wetters. I tried Huggies a couple times and my son broke out into a horrible rash!
  4. You probably won't need newborn diapers for very long. maybe a couple packs. My favorite brand? I love a Chinese prefold, Snappied with a Bummis SWW. If you don't like leaky poop, cloth diapers are awesome! They don't leak. Really.
  5. I would hang onto all of them for now. Newborns are the most expensive diapers and they need changing ALL the time. I think our son grew out of them at about 3 or 4 weeks. I think we changed him about 10 times a day so that can add up! He was born at 7lbs 9oz, so that is right around what you are expecting your baby to be. You go through a lot more in the beginning so keep all you can for now. Places like Walmart have a great return policy for diapers so it won't be a problem later when she grows out of them. As for brands, we used Pampers because they fit the best. The Huggies have that cut out at the top for the umbilical cord, and that just makes the peep leak out easier with a boy. For a girl I bet either are ok. Try both and see what you think. I think they are the only two brands that actually have the newborn size. I hope this helps! Congratulations!
  6. Newborns go through a lot of diapers. My daughter was 5 lbs 9 oz when she was born and she was in newborn diapers for at least the first month. I have tried many different diapers but the one and only I have found that keep everything inside are pampers swaddlers. My daughter has ruined many an outfit while wearing the other diapers but never pampers swaddlers.
  7. Newborn pampers should not last that long, but it really depends on the size of your baby. My daughter is 10 mos old and still in a level 2 at 17 lbs. Have you ever thought about taking them back to the store and receiving store credit for them so that you can get the brand and size you prefer? And about the brand I just adore using the Pampers brand, they are soft and look as if they are very comfortable. They are one of the reasons I have not changed to Level 3, they only make them in Newborn, stage 1 & 2. Good Luck
  8. Don't worry diapers have a way of disappearing! just a tip stay in the smallest size diaper for as long as you can the bigger the size the less that come in a package. i really love huggies they were the best!
  9. Hang on to them because you can always return unopened packages for bigger sizes. My daughter was in newborn diapers for about 3 weeks (6lbs 6oz). If you have a No Frills I found that their Teddy's Choice diapers are wonderful. They are the only diapers that don't give my daughter a rash and they are about half the price of the name brand ones. Also she doesn't leak through them. Just keep in mind that you might have to try out a few different kinds of diapers before you find out what works best for you and your baby. Also don't get caught up in thinking that you have to use name brands because they are not always the best. Don't be scared to try the cheaper diapers. Best of luck and congratulations!
  10. I think i actually got to use one whole pack of newborn this time round lol you wont need alot if you are having a larger baby. If your baby is expected to be smaller then 8lbs you may go thru a couple packs. I personally like Huggies! and the Walmart brand isnt too bad for no name, they tend to be priced cheap. :)
  11. I also got a lot of newborn diapers for my shower and my baby probably only went through 4 or 5 before he moved into size 1. I would ask for more size 1 b/c they grow so fast!!! Pampers swaddlers are great for newborns!!
  12. god i think i've went through 60 some diapers in one week! trust me, you'll go through them. i found that pampers is great for us... they also have a cool little program going on till march, called gifts to grow. you collect points when you get your diapers and then you can use them to buy your kids stuff. it's pretty cool..
  13. 3-4 at the most. I started out with Luvs and pampers but then switched to Huggies. when Luvs get too wet, they split open somehow and the stuff that soaks up the pee comes out and gets everywhere. Its messy white granule stuff.(I know this from overnight happenings) Huggies are a bit more money but i think they are worth it, they hold more and you don't have to change them every hour like you will have to with others.
