Diaper sizing - help needed on how to buy diapers please!?
My son is 12 and I now have another one on the way. I have been stockpiling diapers and things so I won't need to run out and buy stuff after the baby gets here. I have a pack of newborns, two packs of ones (approx. 94 diapers), six packs of twos (approx. 312 diapers), and lots of threes (approx. 388). I know it sounds like I have gone diaper crazy, but I just want to be stocked up and I keep getting coupons (mostly Pampers and Huggies - which I loved with my son - they worked the best to me). So anyway I have some more coupons due to expire soon and I was wondering what size diapers I should buy??? How long do diapers last??? Do they ever "go bad?" It has been so long since my son was little I truly forget. Plus when I had him it was a day to day thing buying diapers. Now I am a little better off and I want to be prepared. Any advice???

- They don't go bad but I would buy a few more pakcs of ones. Remmeber that you can exchange them when you need to if you keep the receipt. Diapers don't go bad And I undertand being prepared. I wouldn't buy anymore two's though.
- I'd buy one more pack of newborns and several more size ones.
- Diapers don't go bad if their kept in a clean dry place. Newborns go through approximately 7 diapers a day by the end of the first week so you might want to buy more newborn and size one diapers depending on how big your baby is. You'll probably go through 3-5 packages of newborn diapers before your baby outgrows them if you have an average (7-8 lb) sized baby. Good luck and happy baby shopping.
- It really depends on the weight of your baby when he/she is born. For my shower my friends all brought be diapers and we told them not to bring New born ones and guess what I needed??? Newborn ones because my little guy was so small. The baby is not going to be in the bigger sizes for a while. My little guy is 7 weeks old and is in size ones. I would get more size ones with those coupons and then take a break from buying diapers. Buy them as you need them. Diapers don't really ever go bad.
- I would stock up on mostly size 3. My daughter was in that size for the longest time. She just got in size 4 and she's 16 months. I go through about 7 diapers a day, so about 200 diapers a month. I think that's about average. Best wishes for happy, healthy baby!!
- My son left the newborn ones when he was a month. Left the ones when he was 2.5 months and is now in twos. and only three and a half months old. Depending on big your baby is going to be (like if they have told you in the ultrasound yet depending on how far along you are). I would buy one more pack of newborns because they do outgrow those quick, but then again, they use a lot of them. I would buy more ones as well. What I do with all my old ones that my son outgrows is give them to the pregnant girl next door (due this week). No, they never go bad so you dont have to worry about that.
- You need about a bazillion more size 1 diapers. 8-10 a day, for 6-8 weeks in size one. You'll probably need more NB too, but it's so hard to guess how big the baby will be. How big was your son? My 6 pound baby spent 3 weeks in NB, and my 7.5lb babies spent 1 week in them. Even if you buy too much in one size, you can exchange them for another size as long as they aren't opened.
- The baby will go through more diapers when they are brand new. The older they get, the less they use. You don't want to get too many newborn size though, because the baby will grow out of them quickly. Size 1 is what I would stock up on. Depending on how much the baby weighs at birth, he/she will probably be in size 1 for a while. You could even use the size 1 when the baby is first born. As far as I know, diapers don't "go bad". However, I would not buy too many more if I was you. You will always be able to get diaper coupons, and why waste money buying them too early. You risk not being able to use them. Good luck with your new arrival!!
- How big do they believe your baby will be. If you have a 5 lb baby then you will need newborns and ones for quite awhile. If you have an 8 lb baby then don't even bother with the newborns. Big babies tend to grow out of the smaller sizes very quickly. I would say size 2 rather then size 1. However I have 8 lb babies so they grow fast. If you keep the reciepts you can exchange unopened diapers for a different size at most stores. Diapers will not go bad in the 3 yrs your next baby will need them. Good luck and congratulations.
- I stock piled when I was pregnant with my thrid child because I knew that money would be tight. I think you should start buying the medium size the baby will be in that the size the most. The diapers will be fine and they will last. Good idea.. keep it up.
- I'd get a couple more Newborns and several more 1's. They probably won't go bad before you use them all...Although you may want to exchange some of the 3's for 2's.
- No they do not go bad. I use to go through about 5 to 7 diapers a day. Then when the children became more mobile more. Stock up, it is a good ideal. I wold get more newborns.
- Go for the 3's!!! Seems like those ones fit for a long time. I found this great bargain at a Meijer Outlet store and got tons of size 3 diapers. I think I had like 7 HUGE packs of them and still needed more!! I wished I had bought the store out!! You may need more 1's though!! It really just depends on your baby's weight- Maybe one or two more newborns. P.S. They don't go bad!! And I know you can sell them in yard sales and give them away as baby shower gifts if you find you bought too many of something!!
- I would definitely get more newborns. i guess it depends on how much your baby weighs. my little girl was 5lbs and i was changing her at least 10 times a day for the 1st month or so. she's 3 months now and wearing 1's. i've already bought over 400. she is a poop machine!!!!!
- Buy a couple more size 1 and stock up on the size 3.
- Holy dinah! Stop with the diaper stockpiling. I'm sure you'll get more coupons in the future. They don't go bad, but why buy a bunch of sizes when you don't know how big your baby is going to be? You could be spending a lot of money for nothing.
- I wouls suggest not buying a lot of the "newborn" size. Any idea how big your baby is gonna be? The doc can give you a rough estimate. The Pampers brand have "Swaddlers" (don't get too many of them- they only go up to like 12 lbs or so), and "Cruisers" (better choice- they are stretchy and flexible, and will probably be the sizes your little one uses the most of). If the size diaper is off by about 3 or 4 lbs from your baby weighs, it's no worry since the diapers these days are designed for baby's rigorous movements and have elastic in the leg areas. Good luck and kudos for being ahead of the diaper game with your baby.
- I really wouldn't worry about it. Other coupons will come along in the future. I personally would not stockpile though, you wont know if these diapers will be the best for your new baby. As stated above, babies grow at different rates, your new baby might not be in a size 2 at all..who knows! I would return everything but 1 or 2 of each size so you won't be throwing your cash away.
- I would buy more ones.... but you know, diapers are exchangable, so if you get it wrong you can always return them!
- Don't buy diapers just because you have an expiring coupon. It'll cost you more to tie up money on diapers that is not immediately needed. Your cash flow is better utilized to other things such mortgage, untilities, and medical bills. There will always be coupon to be found.
