Diapers Q&A

Diapers, Diapers, Diapers?

Diaper shopping used to be so easy they only had sizes 1, 2, 3 and maybe 4s. You would think a mom to 4 all ready would be confident when it came to diaper shopping NOPE! Since my son is finally potty trained I decided I would take the money I was using for his diapers and start getting diapers for the new baby due in Oct. I'm standing in the diaper aisle and literally I started tearing up looking at all the brands, different sizes and stages. Sizes have overlapping weights and different brands have different sizes. FYI: I used pampers with my son and Luvs with my daughters. I really like the stretchy sides of the pampers as he seemed to stay in 1 size longer and they didn't leak like Luvs did on him but I'm open to suggestions. Also my kids have all been fairly small at birth 5 lbs 2 oz, 6 lbs 4 oz, 7 lbs even, and 5 lbs 14 oz. What sizes should I buy and about how many? Should I get some preemie ones or not bother? what brands do you perfer and why? Thanks!

  1. My little peanut will be 6 months on the 23rd and she is 12 1/2 lbs. We get the Pampers Swaddlers and she is in size 1-2 up to 15 lbs. I like them because they are super soft and feel like cotton instead of plastic. They are a little more expensive but there are a lot of coupons out there. I would start with a few packages of newborns but save the receipts just incase. I taped the receipts to the packages incase she outgrew them and I had to exchange them. and we also bought a few size 1's. Even if she didn't use them right away - eventually she did. Congrats!
  2. I always stocked up on size 2's since my baby's were large. But you have small babies I suggest a size 1. Save receipts to them. Most stores let you return unopened items under 90 days. I like the Pampers swaddlers for newborns. . I loved them for the little ones.
  3. Wow!! you have been very busy!! I like Pampers and Luvs.. very good diapers!!
  4. with my 7 month old when she was born we used size1-2 in white cloud at walmart. they have boxes that have 120 diapers in them she weight 7 lbs 5 oz at birth they worked really well and the box only costed $16, less than the named brands, and you get a lot more diapers for the price, the preemie diapers- they don't stay in them too long, they end up growing out of them quick, with the size1-2 in the box from white cloud my daughter stayed in that size until a couple of weeks ago we just started her on the size 3 in that brand
  5. You poor dear! It is confusing! I'd get maybe one pack of preemie diapers, since your babies are so small, but you won't need them long. Yes the sizes and weights overlap. A good rule of thumb is to buy the bigger size that has the correct weight for your baby. It's easier to deal with an extra large diaper than a small one. I like huggies or pampers the best. The pampers Swaddlers seemed like they were kind of cheap, and I thought they leaked a lot. The pampers cruisers are really good, but expensive, and only come in larger sizes. I didn't like luvs, they have really skinny tabs and leaked.
  6. Well when my son was born he was 7lbs 7ozs. I used the first ones of pampers. I like the swaddler type just because if you breastfeed they have little seeds and they get trapped in the mesh like material on the diaper. I tried luvs and hated them they leaked all the time for me. I had about 700 diapers before my son was born and it lasted me about 3 to 4 months. I also like Huggies, so now I only buy the Huggies and Pampers and nothing else because they work the best for me. Good luck and congratulations
  7. I had little bitty newborns too and I liked the huggie preemies when they were that small then I use luv most of the time if money is really tight I will grab store brand from target. I know how you feel I tried all different ones on my first but after him I had twins and I was trying to get more for my money. Now with twins in pull ups and another set of twins in diapers I go for price. I would not buy a lot of preemies. I would stock up on 2 and 3 that was the size mine always stay at for a while.
  8. I prefer Huggies. But I would suggest for you to buy what you used before and just buy one package of the newborn size. You can always get a different size if your baby comes bigger/smaller than you expect. You could probably return the ones you already bought if you don't open them and save the receipt. Or, you could give them to another new mommy! Several people did this for me with my last one, and I thought it was such a nice idea! Congrats on the new baby!
  9. As new borns papmers swaddlers are the way to go. I used these with my son until he was out of size one. Then I went to Huggies Supreme.
  10. Talk to the hospital and see if they will give you a pack or a few of the correct size when the baby is born. Meanwhile save up the diaper money for when the baby comes and buy them then. Also you could try cloth diapers. I know they seem gross but I tried them once and loved them! On my first kid I used the disposable ones then I became more aware of the enviornment (and my diaper budget) and learned about cloth diapers! You can pin them to the right size, Just throw them in the wash (in a seperate load of course) and use them again! They are great!
  11. my son is 15 mos. old and I'm still confused by the sizes! I don't understand the overlapping weights either!!! Anyway, when he outgrows one I go to the next. So we've established I'll be no help with the sizes so I'll move onto the brands... I've tried them all, including store brands, and I do love Pampers Cruisers the best. Of course, they are more expensive but I find they have the best leak control overnight.
  12. We use the store brand- she is changed much too often for fancy diapers- and the elastic/velcro is on all diapers now. Works the same.
  13. get pampers size N
  14. Pampers are my life savers!!! well my youngest was 7lbs but he was small body typed and he was in premise until he was 2 months so it depends on there body type.
  15. Pampers Swaddlers are the best by far, they have stretchy sides and keep leaks in really well. The hospital that my son was born in had those for babies, so we got a bunch when we left and just kept buying them. The Newborn size should fit your baby. I order mine from 1800 diapers.com, they're cheaper than BJs and you can buy the REALLY big box (216!!) for like $34.
  16. I have 2 children and I am 28 weeks pregnant with a 3rd child and with both of my children I used Parent's Choice (from Wal-mart) and Luvs. The Parent's Choice ones are just as nice as the Luvs I found out and they also cost less (even compared to Luvs coupons) And when you have 3 children, price really comes into play. The Parents Choice diapers are soft and very absorbent and the have cute balloon animals on the tops. I have medium sized babies but I always buy size 1 just because even if I have a larger baby, it will still fit a 1 and a smaller baby will too! Good luck
