Diapers Q&A

why do my baby's diapers always leak poop?

my son is 4 months old, i used pampers swaddlers from to 2 and they leaked poop, no pee. then i started using baby dry and they leak big time. these diapers have good reviews. i'm thinking the problem is the way my son poops or what since no pee leaks. what should i do?

  1. Buy a different brand!
  2. Keep trying different brands. I have friends who SWEAR by the cheap generic diapers. They say they leak less.
  3. cuz theres fuggin sh^it in them lady.... no one likes sh^it, including diapers
  4. Check the size of the diper. You might be using slightly bigger than you are suppose to and since they don't fit right they leak
  5. Try putting the diapers on backwards with the tape going back instead of front. My one child would wet through the diapers every night but when i put them on back wards no leaks. It cant hurt to try it.
  6. Are you using the right size diapers? I have better luck with Huggies diapers. They fit well and hardly ever leak. My son is 10 months old and we tried Pampers on him. I will buy them if on sale and if I have a coupon but I think Huggies are the best.
  7. make sure you are getting the right size for your baby, and that you are securing it on him tightly. In my opinion the pampers swaddlers are the best on the market. There is a lot of elastic, making it easy to get it on tight, so "accidents" don't happen. If you can't get those to work than good luck! It really doesn't get any better.
  8. i use pampers swaddlers on my 1-month old and never had a problem yet, it could be the way the diaper fits your son's body. you could always try huggies or luvs, or even store brand. every diaper brand is different, so try out new ones to see if one is better than the other.
  9. try Huggies Snug Dry, you may need to go up or down a size. How much does your son weigh? My son is five months, weighs 15lbs and wears a size two, we have never had a problem with Huggies, but other brands we did. Also if he is still have runny poo then you may need to change his formula. His poo should be pretty solid by now. Good luck!
  10. get some huggies. they never leaked when i used 'em. also make sure you got the right size.
  11. How active is your child? I know when my son what in diapers, it could get very messy if we didn't clean him up immediately following his business due to the fact that he would not keep still, crawling, rolling and most of all, falling squat on his butt. If that doesn't make the poo ooze, nothing will.
  12. They leak poop because babies have explosive poops! That's just the way it is. It will get better once he starts on solids (but it will also smell worse). No pee leak because the gel stuff in the diaper layers absorbs it. My best advice - within minutes after feeding him, change his diaper. Make sure the inner elastic around his legs is pulled out and not tucked in by his bottom, that may help a bit. Good luck!
  13. often times it's just that the baby's body is not compatable with certain brands. When I was working in an Army daycare it seemed like the generic AAFES (army store) brand diapers fit all the chubby babies better than any real brand, including the ones found in the German stores. Just keep experimenting, you'll find a good fit.
  14. I had this trouble w/name brands and store brands. The thing that started working for me is when I put on the diaper I completely unfold it. By that I mean making sure the elastic is not smashed down that way when I put it on the elastic is snug around his legs. Also, just make sure all the tabs and everything are completely pulled out. It helped stop are leak prob and I could save $ by going back to store brands!!!
  15. Are they on tight enough? (you should be able to insert one finger around the top) Are the "ruffles" around the legs pulled out?
  16. I had this same problem with Pampers, Huggies, and the Wal Mart and Target brand diapers. It did not matter if I changed him the second he pooped, how tight I put it on, what size I bought... He didn't poop weird, at least I don't think he did... The problem was finally solved when I switched to cloth diapers with elastic leg bands, since then I have not had a single blow out. And honestly, washing diapers is easier than washing all his clothes, my clothes, blankets, the bed, carseat or the dog EVERY time he poops. Just my experience... Hope you figure out what works for you.
  17. Different brands of diapers fit differently. When my son was that age he did really well with Huggies. Try different brands until you find the right one. Also make sure that the diaper is the right size.
  18. It's usually a size issue. Too small or too big, try a different brand!
  19. It's time to get a larger size diaper for your son. Regardless of how old he is and whether the package says it should fit or not. Go to the next size larger and it should resolve your problem. Good luck.
  20. You're going to have to just try other diapers. Are his poops really runny. Sometimes when they are like that there is nothing you can do. The only diaper I have had that didn't leak was Huggies but that was when he was bigger and we were having problems with pee. Baby dry don't and cruisers don't have as much stretch in the back. Huggies has more. So you may want to try them. I'm not sure if store brands would help with your problem. They are great with pee but don't always fit well enough for really runny poops. Every baby is different. If you've tried Baby Drys then I wouldn't try Luvs. They are made identically. They just have Blues Clues instead of Sesame Street.
