Diapers Q&A

Can i put human diapers on my dog?

I just got a dog from the Humane Society. She is completely perfect in every way except, she has no control over her bladder when she sleeps. I want to get her diapers but I was wondering if regular human diapers could work the same as special doggy diapers. Can anyone help me or tell me which would be good to use? Thanks for the help guys. The dog is actually a 3 year old boxer, so it has no tail because the previous owners cut it.

  1. I don't know just try it and see what happens
  2. I don't see why not, just cut a hole for its tail! I've known two people that for their dog when it's in heat, they get their young daughters panties, cut a hole for the tail and use a sanitary pad in them! Then they can wash it to reuse. I think that'd be better instead of having to spend money on diapers, those can be expensive!
  3. hmm this is a tough one but you should ask a vet and see what they say about it. good luck! :)
  4. That sounds like a good idea, but you would have to cut a hole out for its tail.
  5. You should try it and see, because they might be too bid and fall off if your dog moves around a lot when sleeping.
  6. i wouldn't think so, because the physical makeup of humans and dogs is obviously different, and it would be less reliable. but i'm all for working with what you have, so bust out the diaper and the duct tape and see what you come up with. in case it doesn't work, there are always the doggy diapers. and i wouldn't go with the sanitary napkin idea, because that probably wouldn't catch all of what you're trying to deal with. but cutting a whole wouldn't be a bad idea.
  7. Well how big is your dog? but animal dippers might work best, but if you have extra human dippies around and not be used or its cheper, then try it out.
  8. You can, but you'll have to cut a hole for the tail and watch her skin very closely, she can get urine scald (red irritated skin caused by urine being in contact with the skin for an extended time)-this can happen even without the diaper, but she won't dry out as well, so a diaper increases the risk of that. You can also buy "puppy pads"-these are fold-out rectangles of diaper-type material that you can lay out on her bed where she sleeps. Urinary incontinence is pretty common in female dogs actually, take her to the vet and have her checked out-they will usually check for a bladder infection (these dogs do get them from time to time because the bladder sphincter doesn't close very tightly). There's medication available, that's not too expensive, to make the bladder sphincter close tighter, giving her more bladder control. It comes in a variety of brands, the one we use is called Proin.
  9. Yes you can use Human Diapers on your Dog. I however would not because the Dog could chew on and swallow the plastic. I however would buy a Doggy Diaper that is made of cloth with the strong Velcro as I do for my Females when in heat. You can use a Liner, Feminine Napkin, or a Human Diaper underneath that she can't get at. I use regular Human XL sized Fem-Naps for my GSD and Rott when in heat, and works great. Urinating is another matter but, a Diaper for a Baby or Toddler will do the job and keep your dog from chewing on it with the Doggy Diaper on the outside. They even sell Diapers for Dogs with hole in it also but, buy the cloth outer for it also. The Doggy Diaper washes up nicely in the Washing Machine and very Durable Cotton/Denim material. Oh YES!,......BTW, it DOES have a Hole for the tail. Different Sizes for Different Breed Sizes/Ages. Good Luck!
  10. I suggest getting special doggie diapers, beacuse I want to save you the trouble of cutting holes and stuff. Maybe the point they made dog diapers is beacuse human ones are not very suitable for pups. =]]
  11. Hope you see this....I have just spent the last week cutting toddler diapers for my elderly Papillon as the doggie diapers were so expensive...and well, because the human ones are not cotton and have crystals and polyester that is now around the hole, her little tail at the base and her private area is chafed and raw from rubbing around the hole...so I am searching for washable or cheaper doggie diapers. I feel quite bad about this. I bathed her and dried her gently and put the dog diapers back on. Be Well!
