House dog in heat?
My new papillon, 1 yr. old, is in heat. She's 3 pounds and the smallest diposable dog diaper swallows her and is of little benefit. Is there anything else out there I can try? I'm told I have 2 weeks of this, and cannot have her spayed until its over. Does anyone have a different remedy they've used for this problem? I just bought some homemade dog panties off of ebay but I won't get them for a few days.

- You could try looking in a toy store for doll diapers. Obviously you know now that the best thing would have been to spay before her first heat. Please take care of this as soon as possible after her heat cycle.
- Try a premie diaper and cut a hole in it for her tail
- Carpet cleaner... and lots of it! You can get your dog spayed while they are in heat... I had my bulldog fixed while in heat.. it did cost a little more but it can be done... Just ask around.
- I had a friend who made her dog little pants that she made herself with the sewing machine and she put womens maxi pads in them and she just changed the pads. I don't know how creative you are with the sewing machine, lol. You might use this idea with like little toddler girl panties or small baby diapers with a hole cut in the back for her tail. Hope these ideas help.
- She can be fixed while in heat. Some Vet's just prefer not to do it or they charge you extra. We had our dog spayed while in heat, and she did just fine. Our fee was just a little higher. You might also check around to see about a "Low-Cost" clinic., they are very supportive about getting your cat or dog "fixed" and are more likely to do the procedure while they are in heat. And unless you plan on breeding..you should definetly make sure she gets spayed!!! Not only will this keep happening every cycle, if you wait too long she can develope problems. And in the end it's just the right thing to do. Good Luck!!
- get the smallest pair of under wear you can find cut a hole for the tail and use pantie liners.
- I just had my puppy spayed and she was in heat and bleeding at the time of surgery and it did not make a difference to them.
- CINDY YOU DID NOT SAY HOW LONG YOUR DOG HAS BEEN IN HEAT BUT IF IT IS JUST STARTING , GO TO YOU VET AS THERE IS A PILL YOU CAN GIVE HER WICH WILL STOP HER HEAT. AND BY THE WAY SHE WILL BE IN HEAT FOR THREE WEEKS. DURING THAST TIME SHE WILL STOP BLEADING AND THAT IS WHEN SHE CAN GET CAUGHT. IT LASTS ABOUT 5 DAYS THEN SHE IS SAFE, BUT KEEP YOUR EYE ON HER TO BE SAFE. SINCE THIS IS HER FIRST HEAT THINGS SHOULD WORK OUT LIKE THAT FOR YOU. BUT AS FOR PUTTING SOMETHING ON HER, IT REALLY IS NO USE SHE WILL JUST TAKE IT OFF. KEEP HER CLOSE TO YOU AND WATCH HER IS THE BEST, MAKING SURE NO MALE GETS NEAR HER
- Get a premie diaper, doll diaper, or doll panties and put a panty liner inside. Cut hole for tail. She's three pounds though. How much can she really bleed? You could just try to keep her confined to a tile or other easily washable floor for a while. And heat will last for 3 weeks on average. She will only bleed for the first week. The second week is when she is most fertile and receptive to breeding. So be extra careful during this time to keep the males away. And hte last week it may be possible for ther to get pregnant, but the likelihood decreases. Sometimes there is some discharge as the dog goes out of heat, but it's not as much as the first week. To be safe, you want to keep her away from males for 3 weeks. Some vets will do spays during heat. It's just a bit more complicated for them, and will cost you more. If you don't want to wait, see if you can get a vet to spay her now. Otherwise, just keep the males away for three weeks and spay later!
