Diapers Q&A

My 8 year old dog keeps peeing in the house. Now what ?

We just moved so we thought maybe he was nervous. We put a pet door in which he uses. Do older dogs wear diapers and can he get use to them . Can't think of what else to do . He only does it late at night .

  1. Have you considered getting your dog to the vet to rule out any medical issues that could be causing this?
  2. Maybe he has a bladder infection. If it keeps happening take him to the vet to find out - could be medical. Or he's afraid of the new backyard in the dark?
  3. Get a fresh urine sample in to the vet in a sterilized glass container first off. Rule out urinary infections, kidney problems. Pick up his water at 6 pm and confine him to a small area. Is he drinking more? Eating more, change in activity level? Rule out health problems first please. Then think on lines of adjustment to new surroundings.
  4. Just buy some new cage then kip him in it. or u can buy som toilet 4 the dog. hahaha! or just buy a new cat.
  5. Maybe he has a bladder infection, get him to the vet ASAP.
  6. put down a puppy pad if he was trained for that
  7. It's a UTI--my girl dog pees right in front of the door when she's got one. She knows better and she's very sorry when it happens, but she can't hold it when she's got an infection. Almost the same symptoms as human females--your vet will give you an antibiotic for it.
  8. First...get him checked out by a vet...or simply take a urine sample in to be tested... Second...you could tether him to your bedside..(I am assuming he sleeps in your room and/or has free roam of the house...)but tethering him(using a long leash tie him to your bed) would stop the peeing at night..and "undo" the habit that he has gotten use to...
  9. I know how you feel. We are going through the same thing with our little Bichon. She had a bladder stone last year. We thought it was just a bladder infection but it was actual stones in her bladder. The Vet sold us some very expensive dog food that was suppose to help dissolve the stones, which it did. But as soon as it cleared we put her back on the less expensive food and guess what? It came back. So now we have her peeing all over the house. It is horrible and we have to take her back to the Vet. She will probably need surgery to remove the stones, which will cost about $800. We are so upset because this dog is just too expensive for our budget. You need to take the dog to a Vet. It could also be diabetes. If your dog drinks lots and pees lots. I hope you have better luck than we are.
  10. You should of course have your vet run a urinalysis on him and a full chemistry panel just to rule out health issues that is causing him to not being to hold his urine during the night... and being in the new house he may be a bit reluctant to go outside during the night. Until the vet visit (sooner the better) I would put down a lot of ice cubes with water when you go to bed instead of a full bowl of water (do not withold water during the night just in case this is medical) Hope this helps
