- lol OMG.. try both and you'll see disposables ARE cheaper. both mentally AND physically. But on a biological level.. its a matter of sanitaion really. trust me.. you WANT disposables
- Well your right they are expensive but more sanitary I would think and less work for the mother.
- Disposable. They are not as bad for the environment as they used to be and who the heck wants to rinse out baby poop all day.
- One of the best answers I've heard was disposable for now; cloth when you're ready to toilet-train. Cloth diapers are cheaper, and better for the environment, but disposable ones these days are more absorbent. I've also heard of cloth at home and disposable when you go out--that way you don't have to lug a bag of dirty diapers around with you.
- Disposables are easier even though they are more expensive. Cloth diapers are more capable of leaking. Even though they are cheap and reusable you have to constantly worry about leaks and dirty laundry. If you are going to have a baby shower, put diapers off all sizes on your registry. Plus time will fly and before you know it the potty training will begin. Hang in there!
- if money is the main reason i would say you can still go for the disposables. the other is sooo much more work. but, there are many more choices in cloth diapers than ther used to be. i would suggest if this is your choice looking at natural baby product sites and they have several choices in cloth diapers. otherwise, white cloud at walmart or just as good the generic from target. i have used those for both of my kids and they worked fine.
- It really depends on personal preference. Disposables ARE easy - you don't have to worry about soaking, washing, etc, just throwing them away and emptying the diaper pail. They're fairly durable (sometimes it takes a bit of experimenting to find which brand works best for your child) and easy to pack in diaper bags and use while away from home. However, they're not great for the environment, they're expensive (even with coupons) and some of them have fragrances that can irritate a baby's sensitive skin. Cloth diapers are much better for the environment, and CAN be cost effective, if you shop wisely. eBay is a great source for finding gently used diapers, as is Diaperpin.com. Although it sounds like it'd be much cheaper, you have to keep in mind that you'll need to buy all different SIZES of the cloth diapers - and, depending on what kind you go with, you may need accessories such as inserts, diaper covers, pins or Snappis, etc. Cloth diapering has changed a LOT in the past few years and can quite honestly be a bit addictive now. So many cute patterns and prints available - it's easy to go on a diaper shopping spree. Of course, you do have to wash and keep up your cloth diapers - but once you get used to the routine, this is no big deal either. Caregivers may be more reluctant to handle cloth diapers than would parents, but cloth is nearly always more gentle on baby's skin than paper disposables. Ultimately, it's a personal decision. I started off with disposables, switched to cloth for a bit, and then went back to disposables when the cloth started leaking on a regular basis. Turns out I had invested in a not-so-great brand of cloth diapers. The experience didn't turn me completely off of them, though, and I still intend to try it again with my next child - only next time I'll go with a more reputable brand. It probably wouldn't hurt to buy a few small/newborn cloth diapers to see how you all like them, then base your decision on that, rather than spending a lot on a huge stockpile of cloth diapers from the beginning. You'll know fairly quickly whether cloth diapering is right for your family or not. Congratulations on your new sibling!
- I have used both. Disposable are much easier but expensive in teh long run. Cloth are great if you get good ones. The ones we bought were about $300 for a set, but they last from newborn to potty training. Do not buy the ones at walmart the are only good for using as burp rags. My 2 yearold and 5 month old can wear the same diapers. and we have had them since he was a newborn and they still work great. but to prevent sanitation problems you have to wash them about every other day. once on cold to prevent stains then restart the washer on hot to prevent odor. When we go out we use disposable so that we do not have to carry around a dirty diaper everywhere we go. If you have questions about them just email me. I will try to help. I hope this has helped also
- I've changed 1000's of diapers and I assure you, though the cloth diapers are a bit cheaper you will gladly spend the little extra money when you know that your baby is more apt to get a diaper rash with the cloth diapers. The money you save of rash ointment and even Dr visits NOT to mention the terrible pain and discomfort on his/her little bottom will make up for itself right away. If you haven't yet had your little brother, I might suggest if cost is a big assure (and understandably) May I suggest you ask for diapers or coupons to Target/Walmart to you can get them as you need them. More often than not, women are looking to get the mommy what she really wants/needs. You will get them in all sizes which is great and there is NOTHING wrong with asking for them in the invitation. I for one love when an invitation tells me specifically what is wanted. On a side note: It will only take a few times for you to rinse out a dirty cloth diaper in the toilet to decide. (grin)... 1000's of diaper I tell you... 1000's Good luck on your new blessing.
- My mom was telling me that when I was a baby we had a diaper service company deal with our dirty cloth diapers. This would be a good solution, because you just throw the cloth diapers in a bag for them to take care of and then give you clean ones. This way, it doesn't cost a ton for new diapers (it's just a monthly fee) or pollute the environment with disposables, and you don't have to deal with washing poop off of cloth diapers.
- The only time disposable is expensive is when you have to have name brand. My oldest boy could only wear huggies and so with my next two I bought them just in case. But after about 2 months of shelling out $50 a month I went to cheapies. Cloth diapers are really good as burp rags and to clean up puke and baby food. And if your mom is having a baby shower, you can register for diapers and wipes. I did with my last 2 showers and I didn't have to buy diapers for months.
- i think in the long run disposables would be better. they might be a bit expensive but search around your area and you could find a warehouse for bulk buying or seconds because the box may be torn or damaged. with the cloth nappies you have to buy all the soaking agents which can be quite expensive also and then there are the liners, pilchers etc.. with my kids i used cloth when at home and disposable when out and of a night time.
