Does anyone use cloth diapers for their baby?
My husband and I are expecting and we want to use cloth diapers. We were just wondering if anybody has any advice for us. We don't know much about cloth diapers...

- I did with both my boys, and plan to when we hae our third. My adice would be buy about 30 or so. Get a nappy bucket and soaking solution (napisan etc). Whenever you change a nappy soak it in the bucket until you are ready to wash them. I used to wash mine every night. Hanging them in the sun can cause them to become a little stiff, I used to dry mine in the dryer so they stayed fluffy. I used a Y clip to do up my nappies because it was easier then pins. You will also need plastic pants to go over the nappies so the clothes dont get wet. When you wash and dry the nappies pre'fold them before putting them away, it makes it easier at each nappy change. As your baby sleeps more throught the night you might decide to use disposables becasue the baby wets more and it will be more comfortable. Good luck with you little one.
- I love using cloth. I use mostly prefolds with pins (I hated the snappie/Y clip, it was a pain. I find pins much easier to use), some side snapping fitteds, and couple all in ones. I use wool diaper covers, they are the best in my opinion. They are the cutest and the most breathable. I wash them every other day and hang dry them, shaking them out real good and making sure they don't stay in the sun too long keeps them from getting stiff. I also use cloth wipes. Keep them with a squirt bottle of a solution of water and baby soap. I toss my dirty diapers and wipes in a wetbag made of PUL and just throw that in the wash with the diapers.. http://www.diaperpin.com is a good resource for information about cloth diapers. I buy all of my diapers and accessories at http://hyenacart.com it is a collection of shops by work at home moms, so I feel good supporting other mamma's(and their handiwork is awesome!)
- i use them. i bought alot and then traced them and sut them out of are own stuff. they may be a pain but it is worth it!
- hmm i suppose it would save money...but i would not want to spend all that time cleaning them..it would seem kind of gross to me..but its a personal preference..and is determined on income too i guess.
- Congratulations, mama to be!! There are many styles of cloth diapers, you decide based on how much money you want to spend, and how convenient you want it to be. You can get All-In-Ones, which work like a disposable; they are absorbent inside, waterproof outside, and fasten with snaps or velcro. You can get fitteds, which are absorbent but not waterproof, and you put a cover over it, which is waterproof. You can use prefolds, which are the flat kind, which then need some sort of cover and fastening. Many retailers will sell a "try-me" pack, with one of each kind of different sort. Be aware that until you meet your baby, and see what body type s/he has, you will not be able to know which exact diaper will fit the best. Some babies are slender, some are chunkier. Some have chubby thighs, some don't - and some diapers will fit each body type better than others. Find a good forum, like diaperswappers or Motheringdotcommune, and you can learn from moms who use them. They are worth looking into - with disposables, you are throwing your money away!
