Diapers Q&A

Do any mothers with babies use CLOTH diapers anymore, or are they obsolete?

I used cloth for my two kids when they were babies. They're grown now

  1. As burping pads.
  2. Sure they do. I have several friends that are cloth diapering. But I think most moms buy all their cloth diapers and wash them themselves instead of using a diaper service.
  3. my gram uses cloth diapers, when she watches my boy, even if i take her normal diapers, she just likes to use cloth ones
  4. I dont use cloth diapers on my son but I do know that you can order some from the internet if you search for them. Now they come with the velcro sticky stuff to keep them together instead of using a pin.
  5. i do, but they have come a long way baby, they are a lot easier to use now, no pins or folding required
  6. They do offer services for that but all the mom's i know use disposable. I guess it just the convenience of it. I guess I can't really blame them.
  7. my friend does but I use them as burp cloths
  8. Some do, but you have to buy most of those diapers online. Basically, they are made like a disposable only using flannel and closures like Velcro or Aplix. I made a whole bunch for my cousin's GF some years ago. Saved them a ton of money and even more with the later children (although my cousin wasn't with his gf any longer). If you use day care, unfortunately, most day cares will not accept cloth diapers. Today, disposables are so cheap, in some parts of the country (and some situations), you don't save any money. The electricity to dry is quite high in some parts of the country. If you had to use a laundromat, the savings just aren't there. On the plus side, of course, is that children potty train faster when they are in cloth than in disposables. Note: the ones you buy at most stores, including baby stores, are seriously only useful as burp pads. They just have no absorbancy.
  9. We use them as burp cloths, given they are very absorbent and cheap. I have only known one person to diaper their kids in them - most people (including me) do not want to be dunking a poop diaper in the toilet, then squeezing it out with our hands. Yuck.
  10. they do
  11. I used them as burping cloths and things like that until mine were bigger...then I used them as dust cloths. They do great for that.
  12. many moms do if they have the time. they are more ecofriendly and greatly reduce the occurance of diaper rash.
  13. Same here on using them for burp pads. Disposable diapers are just so convenient. I can remember when I was a kid and the dirty diaper hampers....stinky!
  14. I used cloth diapers, but as burp rags, not diapers. It was just too easy to buy some and throw them away when dirty! Although, my mom used cloth diapers on me, but that was 25 years ago!
  15. I do, as do most of the moms i know. i just can't fathom paying money for something i am going to throw away over and over again. Not to mention the legacy of poop-filled landfills i don't want to pass on to my kids. I have washed and dryed diapers for both of my kids (even using a laundromat at times) and it was always waaay cheaper then paper diapers. People don't take into account the repeat processing, packaging and shipping involved in the production of paper diapers when they try to declare that cloth isn't better for the planet.
  16. No i am a disposable nappy user - i could think of nothing worse than washing pooey nappies all day.
  17. cloth diapers rock, and using a service isn't really all that much more than buying disposables.
  18. I love cloth for my son. It's not a big deal to rinse or wash them. The money we save is well worth the trouble especially since I stay at home. I used disposable the first few months because we got some as gifts, and truthfully I wasn't excited about using cloth at first, but now I would never go back to disposable.
  19. I do and I like it, it helps me to keep my baby´s skin fresh and soft,
  20. Cloth diapers are far from absolete. There are so many mothers going back to using cloth diapers today, me being one of them. I use both flats and prefolds along with pull-on rubber pants, diaper pins, and liners. Two babies in diapers right now and I'm laughing all the way to the bank!
  21. With my first son, I did not. My second is almost 10 months old, and he has had issues with reoccuring yeast or diaper rashes. He does attend daycare, so we use both. When I want his bottom to get a little more air, I will use a cloth one. When I am low on money we will use cloth at home for a while....but I really hate the whole swishing them in the toilet, then rushing to the washing machine with a dripping wet dirty diaper. He smells better with disposables.
