Diapers Q&A

I want to use cloth diapers that are not bulk. There are too many. Help!Baby Boy 21lbs 9 mo.?

I've read so many bits of info about the fabrics and ways to strap down and the all-in-one ....and I have LOST my mind. It was so overwhelming and there were too many varieties and specifics that I left the idea. Its been 9 months and I am back to reconsidering it only if I had some experienced ppl to talk to. Plz tell me if there are fabrics that pull the moisture away from the skin, how often to change, how to have a non bulky diaper, that is easy to clean and possibly all in one piece but its not the most determining factor for me. Baby is crawling(if that matters).

  1. It can be very overwhelming. So as not to overwhelm you even more I won't overload you with excess info. I will just give you the facts. The trimmest cloth diaper available is a Bumkins All in One. They work wonderfully, but are not great for nighttime. For nights, you really do need bulk (best AIO available for nights is HoneyBoys). Fleece is what pulls away moisture from the skin. You could get some fleece (you can find some at the fabric store- just cut it into rectangle strips), and put it inside a Bumkins or you could try using Fuzzi Bunz instead. Fuzzi Bunz are fleece lined pocket diapers that will need to be stuffed with some absorbant material. Some people think that they can be very trim, but others disagree. I think it all depends on what you stuff the pocket with. Fuzzi Bunz are good nighttime diapers. Regarding being easy to clean- Poop slides off of fleece, so all you'd have to do is shake it into the toilet before throwing it in the diaper pail. Or you could invest in flushable diaper liners. You lay them inside the diaper, they catch the poop, then you just flush them. I'm a cloth diaper advocate and answer questions like yours all the time. Feel free to email me if you have more questions.
  2. I have been using cloth diapers for almost 2 years now and have found the trimmest ones to be Fuzzi Bunz with a hemp liner. They work great and the hemp is very absorbent so it doesn't leak even with my heavy wetter. I would go with Medium sized ones. They will fit him right now and probably last you a while. I got some large ones when my duaghter was close to one and ended up only using them for a few months since she trimmed down once she started walking. At night you do need bulk and absorbance since they sleep for long streches at a time. You could toss in one or two extra hemp liners into you fuzzi bunz or I like using Swaddlesbees Terry cloth fitted diapers with a wool or fleece cover. The diaper is really absorbant and will hold alot and the wool or fleece covers are really breathable and will help keep rashes away. Hope that helped
  3. Not sure what you are talking about exactly cos I dun have a baby of my own... but there is this new generation cloth diaper that you may wish to check out: http://www.bumwear.com/contacts.html
  4. You are right, there are so many choices these days when it comes to cloth diapering. My kids are grown and gone now so I don't really have any experience with the new styles and choices but I wanted to compliment you on your choice to reconsider using cloth. Using generalizations, cloth is much better for your baby and in the long run, for your wallet, They are much healthier for baby in that they breathe where disposables don't hlo are right, different materials absorb differently than each other and disposables. You won't find any cloth diaper that I know of that will wick the moisture away from your baby's skin. That is really one of the advantages of cloth diapering. You need to change your baby's diaper more often, because you can feel the moisture next to his skin with cloth whereas you can't with disposables. With disposables, that means your baby sits in his pee longer causing diaper rashes that with cloth, as long as you change the diaper when needed, are either very minor or non-existant altogether. There are so many more reasons for using cloth, this is just a few of them Good luck.
