Does anyone use cloth diapers?
I know there are lots of different kinds available, can anyone explain the difference? I don't think I want the big square, fold 'em yourself kind (unless someone can make a good case why they're better than the newer models), but I am a little lost looking at all the newer varieties. Can anyone reccomend a good brand?

- no thats sick
- Sick.
- With all the germs that are out there nowadays, I'm not certain that I would recommend cloth diapers. The best disposable diapers are pampers by far.
- I just bought one yesterday for the first time. My son will be a year old this week, but I was curious, and wanted to try it. I bought a Fuzzi Bunz. There is a "insert" that goes in the middle, and then the protective covering for the outside. When you go to wash them, pull the insert out, wash them in hot water, and your golden. While I didn't see enough of an advantage to switch over to ONLY cloth diapers, I did like it, and my son seemed to like it too. We'll probably buy more!
- I had someone make one which were cheaper then any brands out there. Check out moms groups and I'm sure someone might be able to tell you what they recommend.
- You will have to go and get them outside USA. Go to some third world country. They must be banned here.
- Someone gave me cloth diapers at a baby shower, I ended up using them for burp cloths.
- My friend swears by G diapers.
- Fuzzi bunz are quite popular. Kushies are popular and cheap (sold by Walmart). Gerber makes those old fashioned kinds you have to fold and you can buy those at Walmart or Target. Sometimes it's helpful to use those old fashioned ones as a liner for the other more expensive brand of diapers so they dont leak at night. The cloth diapers have different types, so you should research them online. There are AIO (all in ones) which look like disposable diapers adn then there are ones that require snaps. Cloth diapers nowadays are much easier to use and it's great that you're interested in them. I'm sorry I couldn't help more. Good luck!
- like you said there are more diaper brands than babies how ever you asked about cloth ones there are several companies that provide that are pricey......I recommend you purchase the smallest amount you can find and try each brand til you find one that works for you and baby.....pampers and huggies as well as others provide weight tables ...sorry to say though what one claims to fit wont so experiment and good luck
- Cloth diapers Rock! I've been using them for 2 years on 2 kids. There not like your mom, either! Although, those prefolds (NOT the Gerber ones!) really rock. There is a lot to learn about Cloth Diapering (CDing) because of the huge amount of choices out there, now. If you want to keep it simple and sweet, buy 2 dozen each of preemie, infant and premium Prefolds, 6 snappis and 4 covers each of small, med, large. CD's are non-toxic, unlike disposables which are highly toxic to baby and environment. They are super easy to use and care for. Plus, they are cute, soft and fun. You can not believe the fabrics and ways of embellishing! I love my bamboo and velour dipes! You will not be polluting the environment, you'll be saving money and natural resources. - We used cloth diapers with our daughters and had disposables for traveling. We eventually switched to all disposible because of diaper rash exacerbated by cloth diapers. I used a diaper service, which was great. The big square ones weren't a problem but the hourglass-shaped ones with snaps were easiest to use and were effected when used with a diaper cover. If you have to buy the cloth diapers do a cost analysis. Otherwise it's worth looking into a diaper service.
- I used cloth diapers with my children, but the disposables were really bad back then. There are advantages to using cloth diapers (cost, recycling into dust cloths, earlier potty training to name a few) but there are also disadvantages (use more diapers, need for plastic pants, a little messier to clean up, smell of the diaper pail). If you choose to use cloth, I would suggest the fold them yourself type. Birdseye used to make a great diaper, but I haven't looked for any in years and haven't looked at the newer types. I can only tell you my experience with the big square ones compared to the other type of cloth diapers available 25-30 years ago. The smaller diapers made good burp rags. The big square ones could easily be folded to fit a newborn as well as doubled and folded to fit a toddler. The Birdseye brand (if still available, I bought them at Sears) was the best quality. I was still using them for dust cloths when my youngest was a teenager! Good luck and it's nice to see someone considering cloth diapers again!
- There are tons of different kinds, I'll try to describe them: all in ones (aio's) go on just like a disposable, they have velcro or snaps to close them up. They are usually more expensive and take awhile longer to dry, but they are very easy to use. contoured diapers need a cover, they are shaped like a diaper, just wrap the tabs around the baby and put a cover on and you're good to go. fitted diapers, similar to contoured but have snaps or velcro to close it. flats-old school diapers that everyone thinks diapers are, require folding and a cover prefolds, similar to flats but have more absorbancy in the center and finally pocket diapers-popular kind is fuzzi bunz. They have a waterproof part on the outside, and fleece or suedecloth inside. You stuff a towel, prefold, anything you can think of inside the "pocket" opening-which is in the front or back of the diaper. Then there are a billion types of covers made out of fleece, PUL, and wool. I stick with what works for me, pocket diapers.
- I love my cloth and it looks like you got some great answers. My personal favorite are pocket diapers by BumGenius, Happy Heiny's (NOT the prints), and Swaddlebees.
