Diapers Q&A

Cloth diapering?

I want to cloth diaper, but I can't afford the more expensive, nicer cloth diapers like Bum Genius. So I'm going the old fashion route! However, I can't find places that sell just regular pre-folds, inserts, or diaper covers! Can someone direct me to a few of these places please! Thanks!

  1. whaw, I applaud you. All I have to say is I hope you have great perseverance and let me know how long you keep that up. Best of luck.
  2. Plush Bums has a lot of different prefolds and covers, even fitteds. You can get gerber prefolds at places like Babies R Us, however they arn't as absorbant and are very synthetic. Also keep your eye out for a contraption called a snappi, it's a life saver instead of pins! Also check out a website called diaperswappers it's a great place to get diapers at an affordable price, you may even find that you are able to use some of the "fancier" diapers. The nice thing about covers and fitteds or prefolds, is you can get some really cute covers at a good price and you don't need as many so sometimes you can splurge. I have a few really cute covers from Deb at Made by Mama. She is on medical leave until oct. 2nd though. She was very affordable even on the customs.

  4. Online stores are the best. I encourage you to get the best prefolds you can afford (not the gerber ones). I used the bummis super whisper wrap and love it.
  5. http://www.hannaandersson.com/home.asp?cchkrd=y they are a little on the pricey side, but they are VERY well made and what I bought not only lasted through all my kids (3) but then went onto my sister's kids, and are being cirrculated through friends with extreme durability. These things only got softer as time went on! Kudos to you for helping save our planet from plastic poo poo presents!
  6. Consider buying second hand diapers from e-bay. That's usually the cheaper way to go. You can also try craigslist and find diapers close to you, so that you can see what you are getting before you pay for it.
  7. I've found really great deals on prefold packages by doing a simple search online of "prefold packages." Here's some deals I've found: http://www.thanksmama.com/Prefold_Packages_s/67.htm http://www.softclothbunz.com/Prefold-Diaper-Package_p_0-72.html http://www.tinytush.com/chinese_prefold_packages.htm http://www.monkeytoediapers.com/catalog.php?item=266&catid=70&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D70 If you're not a part of any diapering communities, I suggest visiting the forums at www.mothering.com, www.diaperswappers.com, and www.diapertraders.com. Many online stores offer discounts for the members of these communities or free shipping. There are also pre-fold "co-ops" which allow you to get a really great deal on pre-folds by the dozen. I just purchased 1 dozen preemie prefolds for about $10 including shipping! Also, you may qualify for www.MiracleDiapers.org. You can check them outand apply to receive a diaper stash. It is income based, though. Good luck with cloth diapering. I myself prefer the "old fashion" route and use them regularly. Please feel free to contact me personally any time if you have questions or need any help!!
