Diapers Q&A

What are the best places or websites to get cloth diapers from?

Should I use prefolds and do I have to use pins? Also, what's the best product at cleaning them?

  1. I've noticed them at Walmart and they are pretty cheap. I've never used them, so I really don't know if you have to use pins or if there are other options.
  2. OMG you mean you can't buy them at walmart ? Heck fire didnt know that. I raised both of mine on them course they are men now. As in I couldnt efford throw aways back then. My mind is escaping but I think it was Dreft or Ivory flakes detergent for diapers. Damn this is really making me OLD.. LOL BTW I used pins to hold them in place plus plastic undies to hold the stuff in.
  3. Walmart has some of the best ones I have seen but Target and Kmart have the same ones.
  4. I used diapers from dydee daiper, its a local comapny for me. I use prefolds and pins, sometimes with fancy velcro covers, sometimes with gerber plastic pants. wash in mild soap with vinegar in the rinse, do a 2nd rinse and airdry.
  5. Try this website: http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/ I've heard that the ones that you just velcro on are nice. No prefolds and pins. Makes it quicker I guess. I've never tried them yet though. Good luck!
  6. I got my Indian cotton prefolds from Baby Cloth Bottoms I can't believe how much more absorbent they are compared to the ones in the stores (burp rags) I have a few of the fancy diapers but I rarely use them (fuzzi bunz, happy heiny's) I use dappi pins, they lock so they'll never poke baby, plus they stay sharp longer than the gerber ones. There are also pin-free options like snappis. OK- so here's where I got mine... http://www.babyclothbottoms.com About cleaning- don't use bleach or fabric softeners. Bleach breaks down the natural fibers and fabric softeners make them less absorbent. I use regular tide, but I run through two extra hot rinses. Laundering diapers is a hard thing to recommend, it will depend on how sensitive your baby's skin is and also the properties of you local water (ph, chlorine, minerals...) There are laundering products, all diaper vendors will have some on their site. try what you can- use what works. 7. I like prefolds and covers. I lay the prefold in the cover and just velcro it. My favorite cover is Imse Vise Bumpy. I use Gerber Diaper Service Quality prefold or Chinese prefolds. I got a bunch off my local freecycle and craigslist. I've bought a few more off www.diaperswappers.com which is a used diaper website. Nice mamas on there! I also have an Aristocrat wool soaker that I use too. I use BumGenius pocket diapers when we're out and about. I use their one size that grows as your baby grows. At night, I use a solid print Happy Heiny diaper. I find it easily works for up to 10 hours on my super soaker. Pins aren't necessary. I used a snappi for the longest time. They're easy to use. For detergents check out:http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchart.htm For us with an HE, I find Charlie's Soap works great. You can also make your own soap with washing soda, Fells Naptha, and Borax. Good luck finding what works for you!
  8. I use prefolds and pocket diapers. I have tried all in one cloth diapers but didn't care for them. I have used both pins and Snappis on my prefolds and contours and once I got the hang of Snappis really like them. The diaper pins I used were some cheapy brand from Walmart or Target. I had the darndest time getting them to go into the diaper until my mother-in-law told me to run the sharp point through my hairline (carefully!! haha) and then try it. It worked!! Slid right in after that. Must have something to do with new moms not having time to shower or something. :-) I am in love with Fuzzi Bunz, which are a more expensive pocket diaper. However, I have just started using Thirsties Prefolds and Imse Vimse contour diapers. I use a Thirsties cover over them. As for washing them, first I run them through a cold rinse or soak then I wash them on hot. I use Allen's Naturally for cleaning my diapers and it does a great job. It is about $15.00 dollars for a box that says it can do 75 loads, but it stretches A LOT farther. I usually only use a half a cup of it per load. My diapers always come out clean. Line drying them also helps. If you line dry they stay whiter longer and it doesn't wear them out as long. Toss in a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle and that will make them soft even if line drying. For the covers I also use Allen's but usually just toss them in a quickie wash on warm. Do not put covers in the dryer unless you HAVE to. Even then put them on the lowest setting you can. High heat will destroy them. I hang dry them as well and if it is raining out you can find diapers and covers draped everywhere in my home...
  9. You didn't say whether they were for yourself or someone else.
