Diapers Q&A

cloth diapers?

I'm thinking about using cloth diapers. I don't really know any thing about them. I heard chinese prefold is the best is that true? How many cloth diapers should I buy? Any info you have would be a help. thanks for all the info. i would plan on washing them 2 to 3 times a week. The main reason I want to use cloth diapers is cuz they're cheaper. The money I save on diapers can go into a savings for my kids college fund. Yes I'm also using cloth diapers cuz it's better for the earth.

  1. Check this website: www.target.com
  2. my mum used cloth.. umm.. as many as u think u'll need.. i mean ull have to wash them. so..? how often do u want to wash?
  3. One of my friends gave me a diaper service for a year when my daughter was born. I liked it very much and only used Pampers when we went out.
  4. If your going to use cloth then buy plenty.I found that buying pampers or other brand was a whole lot easier.
  5. I used cloth diapers for my 3 children except when we were traveling when I used disposable. Mostly I used the ones I had to fold...that way I could control the size of them. I had some that were more like burp cloths that could be used as diapers too. Whatever you do, wash everything to be used on the baby before using it on the baby!
  6. I would use disposable. Cloth diapars are a lot of work!! A lot of washing and sterilizing and stinky.
  7. they are pretty much old fashion back in the days when i was born type and you should buy at least 100 and just wash and reuse every time 5 gets dirty save money on diapers thts for sure
  8. cloth diapers were used a long time ago when there wasnt disposable diapers but disposable diapers are much easier and would be better for the reason that you dont have to put them in the washer with anything and get poo on the other clothes if any and plus you dont have to wash at all =S
  9. cloth are the best, diapers aim for around 50 give yourself time to wash em dry em for next use, found old copper best to wash em in boiling water in other words gets em really white and fluffy it does. Natural is best cotton ones etc if you read stories of days gone by they use sheep wool etc
  10. Yes that is true, how many you buy depends on how many times you want to do laundry. You should buy enough for at least 3-5 diaper changes a day for at least a week. So about 35. You can never have too many though.
  11. i bought 3 doz. i use between 7and 10 during the day and another 3-4 at night. most nights i use disposables. its too hard to describe the way of folding here so you could email me or I'm and we could talk some more, as sex of the baby makes a difference to how you fold. i have a girl
  12. I used cloth diapers when my son was first born and found out that without a diaper service it was the worst mistake ever. With the money I spent in laundry and washing them it cost more then buying pampers or huggies. I'd recommend just using those unless you're using cloth diapers for environmental purposes.
  13. If you are planning only evry 3 days to wash then you will need 3-4 dozen. If it is sunny you do not need to use anything other than water and soap. The sun is a natural sterilizer and takes out stains. They do say however it can cost the same by the time you pay for the water and electricity but I don't beleive it. I used them for 2 years with my Twins. then I had to use disposable at the end (long story) and it cost me a FORTUNE. Good for you
  14. I used cloth diapers. I bought 3 dozen flat and 1 dozen prefold. Also you will need diaper covers to keep the clothes dry. There are ecofriendly verisons of these. Also you will need at least 2 packs of pins. To fold the diaper: fold 2 corners in so it looks like a kite fold, top point down, fold bottom point in towards top to fold into diaper shape. This is much easier to show than to tell! For a boy you need thick in front for girl thick in middle. Good Luck!
