after potty training 3 year old his bottom is covered with rash?
I've heard of diapers causing a rash but never white cotton underwear. It's not like a diaper rash it's up higher on his butt cheeks. It couldn't be our laundry detergent if the rash isn't where his clothes are touching his skin anywhere else right? we've always used the same soaps for him since birth so this has me stumped. He potty trained over the weekend & has been completely accident free since Tuesday but now the rash has been there every since Monday. The only thing different is he's wearing underwear. My husband thinks maybe it's a heat rash, But I disagree because I would think a diaper would hold in more heat. What will help heal this as Hydrocortisone cream hasn't helped and we've used it daily since Tuesday. Any ideas? ok # 1, he's afraid of doctor so it will be last resort it's a rash not a sickness or disease for goodness sakes # 2, it's not at all any where near where he potty's or wipes as I said above the rash is up way at the top of his butt cheeks across both sides even with the top of his butt crack #3, I'm cleaning him up every time so I know he's getting clean I was just wondering if anyone else's child had a similar reaction after wearing big kid undies for the first time

- Well its a little gross, but is he wiping good enough? My daughter gets the same thing when she doesn't wipe very well after a BM. Try those toddler wipes. They clean up good and they are moisturizing like baby wipes.
- go to the Dr and have him check it. Could it be the paper? some have fragrances that can causes a reaction
- try A&D ointment, always works on my grand daughter good luck
- Take child to a doctor!
- If it's around the waistband, it could be a latex allergy. I'm allergic to latex, and the elastic in most underwear gives me a rash. If he's been playing outside, it could be chiggers. They like to hide in places where your clothes are tight, then burrow under the skin.
- when i was potty training my son, he was 3, and he had the cartoon briefs, i didn't know either what it was, so i bought Fruit of the loom white briefs, and hes 4 now, and no rash since... no, maybe this will help, and i switched them because i thought it was the dye in the cartoon undies
- My girls have eczema, a rash that can show up on their skin anywhere on their bodies, if their skin is irritated by something, or if it gets too dry. Perhaps that is the case with your son. Try letting him go w/o underwear inside the house for a few hours to let the air get to his bottom, maybe that will clear up the rash. That is what I do with my three year old. Good luck!
