- You should treat your dog an different than you do on a normal day to day basis. Other wise you are going to have one spoiled puppy on you hands! You have to remember that dogs are not all that different than humans. They will have their "cycles" and they'll get grumpy and even exhausted, especially because of the new circumstances. The bleeding shouldn't last for more than a week and she'll stop bleeding but her "season" won't be over just yet. The only thing that you need to watch out for is male dogs. It really isn't a good idea to breed them on their first heat. The diapers are a great idea but remember to take them off and give here bottom a chance to breathe for a while and make sure that she doesn't mat up as this will be very uncomfortable and can cause irritation. Remember she's not sick she's just "becoming a women!"
- Please get your dog spayed as soon as her cycle is over so that she does not get mammary gland cancer when she is older. It is a leading cause of cancer deaths in dogs.
- it can last for about 30 days sorry to tell you. My dog just did that a couple months ago. and really there isn't much you can do. Just give her some treats and love on her. Hey humans do it one a month for years and years and we dont get pampered.
- The estrus cycle of the female dog lasts approximately 3 weeks; They bleed primarily in the first week, then it lessens. The dog's estrus cycle is NOT biologically the same thing as a woman's period -- please don't confuse them. Your dog will be fine, leave her alone. That's probably the best advice I can give. If you don't make a big deal out of it, she won't make a big deal out of it. I do encourage you to take the advice of spaying her after her cycle -- then neither of you will have to deal with this in the future. In addition, she'll live a longer, healthier life.
- Feed her something high in iron such as liver in addition to her normal food.
