My dog is in heat . what should i do?

ok. I just found out that my digs b day was november 14. so shes not 5 months. Well shes been licking her u no wat. A little to much. So i checked. And found out she has started. Shes in heat! Shes like 9 or 10 months. Is this a right age for a dog to be in heat? Should i get her those dog diapers? What will happen if i suddenly nueter her? Some websites say if i nueter her right after her first deliver she can be diagnosed with cancer. what do i do?

1. Call a VET, and keep her locked up until you do.
2. Spay when heat is over!!! Most vets will not spay if a dog is in heat because they are too vascularized - making bleeding a problem and the surgery more risky. Ask though. She is definately old enough to be in heat (she should have been spayed at 5-6 months old, BEFORE her first heat. You could buy the "pants" - or find an old pair of kids shorts... Spaying before the first heat reduces their chance of cancer - but getting it done ASAP will still benefit her health and behavior. Here is some more info in the link. Good luck - and get her spayed.
3. Take her to the vet. The vet should tell you all the information or go to a petsmart. They might be able to tell you something.
4. Have your dog spayed. She will be a lot happier and healthier, and it will be easier for you to take care of her.
5. Your information is a little confusing. At one point you say she isn't 5 months and then you say she is 9 or 10 months. Nonetheless, a dog should never be bred during their first heat. Have her spayed. Check with your vet and make an appointment. Until then keep her away from male dogs.

7. OK! First of all, do you have any un-neutered male dogs in your house? If so, you will need to keep them separated from your female. Second, I think this is the normal age when a female dog has her first heat. It would be best to spay her after she's out of heat.

13. Take your dog to your Vet ASAP!! Like as soon as the sun comes up. Tell your vet that you want to have your dog neutered as soon as it is SAFE for your dog. Your dog DOES NOT need to have a litter!! Keep her locked up in the bathroom until then.
14. First, keep her away from unneutered males. You really don't want puppies unless she's a purebred that you're going to be showing. There are already too many unwanted puppies in the world. That is about the right age for a bitch to start going into heat, but she's still a puppy and probably still maturing. Think teenager. Bitchesbritches or other dog diapers will keep your rugs and furniture from getting stained. They might be a good idea. Take her in to the vet to ask about neutering. To the best of my knowledge she'll be fine but the vet will know for sure. You might want to wait until she's no longer in estrus. So long as you keep a really close eye on her to make sure she doesn't mate she'll be fine. It's not an emergency to get her spayed, but it should be done once everything has calmed down. I would make sure to keep her inside or in a very secure place and always accompany her when she's outside to ensure no dogs get to her. Males can be very crafty when they smell a bitch in heat! If she's not pregnant then she won't be delivering, so you won't have to worry about possible cancer. I'm not even sure whether or not those websites are right. If she does have puppies, wait until they're weaned, then get her spayed. Edit: The dang filters won't let me use the proper word for a female dog (begins with a "b" and ends with "itch"). Sigh.

16. Do you wish to breed her? If not, then keep her indoors if at all possible. Believe it or not, it is possible to spay a dog while being in heat. Nine or ten months is about right for a dog to go in heat. Usually it doesn't happen until they are at least a year but she is not far from that, so I wouldn't worry.
17. keep her inside away from other dogs. it's perfectly normal for her to be in season at this age. ther's no need to breed her before you have her fixed. it's a myth that it'll make them gentler, and unless you have homes for all the puppies don't do it. the pound is full of dogs and millions are out down every year because people think having puppies will be fun/cute/profitable, it's none of the above. as for the diapers not unless she's bleeding on the furniture. you can simply put her in the bathroom or a kennel . don't freak out it'll be ok.
18. She's fine. Dogs are different, as are their cycles. It would have been better if she had been spayed before she had her 1st heat (as far as cancer goes), but the sooner you can after she's out of heat the better. Buy the diapers if you want to. Some dogs bleed heavier than others.
19. Just to clarify the cancer issue a bit - ther rate of breast cancer in a spayed female is microscopic (but it can happen). The rate in a dog spayed after the first heat is significantly higher but still rather low. It goes up with each heat, till in very old unspayed female it is a coin toss (50/50). Timing as to how soon after the heat is not significant that I have heard. Now meanwhile my advice if the 2 rule that I use for in heat girls - two barriers between them and any unneuterd males (or the outside world which is assumed to have males) or two eyes on them at all times (such as when they potty in the yard with one fence tween them & the world)
