Is it safe to store disposable diapers?
My daughter is outgrowing her size 1 diapers and I have about 100 left. Is it safe to store the diapers for when we have baby #2? We plan on trying for our second baby in about 4 years, so is it okay to put the diapers away for that long? I just don't want them to go to waste especially since they would come in handy when we have our second baby. Thanks!

- You should contact the manufacturer. I'm sure they'd be okay for a year or so, but I wonder if the gel that absorbs the wetness would break down and stop working after four years. You could donate them to a shelter
- Yep, diapers don't expire. Just put them in an airtight bin so moisture doesn't get to them. Another option would be to give them away at baby showers or to friends who have newborns. That's what I did. BTW... diapers from an opened package are great to use when make diaper cakes.
- ofcourse its safe..just make sure it's in something sealed closed...so no germs can get to it.
- yuppp sho is.
- there shouldn't be a problem but diapers change on a regular basis
- Actually it's probably best to donate them so that they can be used. Even though you plan on having a second baby in 4 years, anything can happen. You never know what the future holds. I suspect that 4 years is too long to store those things.
- 4 years is kind of a long time to store something so bulky. Plus they may change things (for the better) between now and then and add better features you may want (better elastic, leak coverage, etc.). I would contact the manufacturer to see if it is safe to store them that long, they may absorb moisture, or the gel in them may break down if you store them like in an attic where they will be exposed to a lot of heat. Really, in the grand scheme of things, are they really worth holding on to? I know they are expensive, but they are not THAT expensive. You could donate them to a local shelter or a friend and then buy new ones when an IF you have baby #2, you never know what could happen between now and then :) EDIT: Also, if they are unopened packs, you can always exchange them for a bigger size.
- i would think if you put them in a storage container with a lid on...
- I don't see why you couldn't store them. I can't imagine how long they are in a warehouse before we buy them at the stores! The person who suggested the diaper cake for a shower........I had one of those at mine! They are so cool! My one creative friend who helped throw the shower made it and it was a big hit at the party!
- As mothers other mothers have said, I would donate them. I do not think they will "go bad" but I do believe that in four years there will be a more environmentally friendly product out beside the disposables we use today. You may not even want them in four years.
- If you store them, store them in a safe place that children and pets can not get into. The chemicals in disposable diapers if ingested can cause great harm. I had a friend who almost lost her 80 lb dog after he decided to mess with a clean diaper. And the vet bill was nothing to laugh about.
- They will probably be okay but I'd vacuum seal them just to keep the germs out. You could always donate them too.
- The adhesives used in diapers isn't designed to last for long long periods of time. You'll probably end up with diapers that fall apart, and tapes popping off. You'd be much better off giving them to somebody who can use them now. They do actually expire. I believe it's about 2 years.
