What are the best cloth diapers (keeping in mind that I don't like the idea of fleece and poop together)?
I also would love to make my own. Does someone know of a simple, poop-containing pattern? Thanks!!! Thanks to those who are answering my questions. It's such a frustrating choice to make! I really appreciate your answers and thank you! However, to the others: I didn't actually ask anything about the environmental impact of cloth diapers, although thanks for the laugh. I guess disposable diapers ARE better - it's not like they're biodegradable, chemical-free or reusable or anything. God, who would want that?

- Try the Gerber brand. They have a couple of different ones. I'm speaking of the "heavy gage" ones. You'll know them when you see them. I use these for "slobber rags". When I used cloth diapers, I actually went through a diaper service. mb
- forget about it - it is highly unsanitary, breeds germs and more work than its worth -- thats why they make pampers
- Ok, I am unsure if you are for real, but being a Mom of 4 I have read magazine studies that prove cloth diaper use more energy than disposable, as it takes alot of hot water to get them clean.
- I had 4 in diapers at one time, and that fleece was a god send. The poop rolled right off and kept some of the moisture away from their skin. I used a pocket style from Happy Heiny that I bought online. Barring that you could always just use the gerber prefolds, not the birdeye pique, because that sucks, but the other thicker kind. That is what I used for my inserts and they are just as good pinned. Make sure you have a good outter so they don't leak and seep. I used the "dry pail" method of shaking over the toilet then tossing them in the basket. Each night I would empty the basket into the washer and set the cycle to sanitary. (I have a kenmore HE4T washer with the heater, very nice) In the morning I could take them out and dry them.
- www.tushies.com they're awesome as organic....
- Why would you even consider using cloth diapers? How would you like to have a wet, soggy piece of cloth on your butt? The disposables are really wonderful, they usually have a stay-dry lining so the baby does not have heavy moisture next to his skin.
- I would just use disposable diapers. a lot easier to deal with.
- I use the all in one diapers with liners. They are called Kushies, they have a "built in" diaper cover and velcro closed. The liners make for easy poop removal unless she has a blow out, which then it doesn't matter if you have her wrapped in space aged bubble wrap....it will get everywhere!
