Eco-friendly disposable diapers?
Does anyone know of a good, inexpensive brand of non-bleached, no chemical diapers? I used Parents Choice with my daughter and loved them because they work and are cheap, but I'm trying to do things even better with my to-be baby. I wanted to go cloth, but hubby wouldn't have it. It's hard enough getting him to change diapers as it is, so I figure I'll just have to bend over on this one. Yes, I know cloth are easy, but I'm going to have to do disposable. What is your experience with "green" disposable diapers? What brand? Are they inexpensive? Thanks!

- Are you referring to G diapers? They're cloth diapers with disposable liners. I haven't used them personally but some YA members on here have and they love them. I don't consider them to be financially friendly though, as the liners can get pricey and since they are disposable, you have to keep buying them. Why is your husband against cloth diapers? Is he afraid of learning how to use them? They are as easy as disposables now. Or you could use them for your child and have your husband use disposables when he changes. I think compromise is good for a relationship.
- If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly disposable diaper look into gDiapers. I use cloth exclusively at home, but on outings and traveling I use gDiapers. They are a blend of cloth and disposable diapers. They are a cotton outer-pant and waterproof liner (both are washable and reusable) and you stick a "disposable" pad into the liner. The pad can be flushed, composted or tossed once dirty. They break down in 50-150 days instead of the projected 500 years that a regular disposable diaper takes to break down! Take a look at their website. In the US they are available now in quite a few stores and in Western Canada some baby boutiques are carrying them. I would recommend at least buying a starter pack to try them out, if you don't like them you can always sell the cotton pants on ebay or craigslist, or you can also use them as a cloth diaper cover too --- maybe these will help convince Hubby that cloth diapers are do-able! http://www.gdiapers.com/
- I am going to try Nature Babycare diapers. You can get them at diapers.com or I think at Target. But I haven't used them yet so I'm not sure how they will work. They are supposed to be compostable and there are no bleaches or chemicals used, so they're better for baby's little bottom. They are a little more expensive than Pampers Swaddlers. $11.99 a pack on diapers.com. What I do right now is use cloth at home, except at night and I do use disposables when I leave the house, for now. I use prefold diapers with a Bummi's cover. My husband uses the disposables when he changes her. I haven't converted him to cloth just yet. But I think he'll eventually try it. So maybe try a combination of these things.
- We're using Seventh Generation diapers and they're excellent for fit and absorbancy, but are a bit more expensive than the regular brand name disposables. They're also harder to find at stores. In our area, they're only available at Babies R' Us & Whole Food stores. Amazon.com sells them as well as many other online stores.
- I used cloth diapers most of the time with my daughter, but I did use both Seventh Generation and Tushies disposables when traveling. Both are available on Amazon.com.
