Diapers Q&A

Why Docters in Asia are against Diapers/Nappy Pads?

We keep drying his cotton clothes (thin nappy cothes) all the time and he keeps getting wet. Even in the cold we are unable to cover his leg. We need continous heaters to keep his feet warm. Asian docters never alow nappy pads or dipers. while we see in europe, people use that frequently. how many blankets we need to wash daily?? this is so sick.. My baby is one and half month old.. yes.. we use plastic sheet. but because or think cotton cloth, sometimes he used to wed all his cloths.. and we change his whole cloth atleast once in night. My question is.. why NO Diapers?

  1. i dont know what people use now a dys in asia but i can remember from my time. my mum used to wrap me in a plastic sheet. or u cn protect ur blankets or bed cover by putting a plastic sheet under ur baby. it is good not to use diapers coz babies get rashes very easily
  2. I live in the west, so I'm not sure. You can give this method a try. It's like super early potty training. It should help all the wetness. http://www.timl.com/ipt/
  3. If you are in Asia, why don't you take the time to ask some Grandmas about how they cared for their children there. Hands-on teaching is often the most effective. Asia couldn't afford the landfill costs and sanitation problems caused by diapers, as well as the very serious diaper rash, which is why it remains unpopular there. If you search on the internet for Infant Elimination Technique, you can get lots of help. Most of the information stems from India, who also do not use diapers.
  4. Someone (from Asia) told me a while ago that they don't like to use them because when it gets very hot and humid there, the (plastic) diapers can become like an oven. It's not true what the other answerer said, that diaper use leads easily to diaper rash. This only happens when the baby has to sit in a wet/poopy diaper for a long time. Of course, that causes a rash! Diapers are one the best inventions of modern civilization! If your baby's feet keep getting wet and his body is wet all around from his own pee, and it is cold there right now. Then just wait for his first upper respiratory infection. There is absolutely, positively no medical reason not to use diapers. Make sure that you check your baby's diaper every 2 hours, at a minumum. When he smells, change him immediately. After he's eaten, check earlier for a wet diaper, after 1 hour or so. He won't get any diaper rash as long as you clean him well with a wet wipe or cloth and then dry his area off really well. If you see redness occur, a zinc lotion can help ( I used Burt's Bees baby diaper ointment that one and only time that my baby got a little bit of a rash). I don't know which diapers are available there, but I can highly recommend Pampers Swaddlers diapers. I've used those on the baby (now 5 months old) since the beginning and no problems at all. You will do yourself a favor and give your baby back his sense of dignity by using diapers and thereby keeping all of his body clean. Plus, with a diaper you can dress him and you can hold him close to you and cuddle him anytime you want. You can really bond with him. Also, about the heaters. This can be a fire hazard for the baby and in your house. And if you're concerned about the environment: washing I don't know how many blankets with poop/pee a day uses a lot of energy (including yours! And you're still recovering from giving birth!) and the poop/pee goes into the groundwater. At this point you should be concentrating on feeding your baby, getting lots of rest and bonding with your baby. I bet you're feeling very overwhelmed because of of this neverending pad washing. Give yourself a break. You're the mother and YOU alone make the decisions for your baby. You need to take charge here. Now, go and organize yourself a diaper shipment from somewhere! Here are some websites in the US that ship diapers (I have all diapers shipped, much more convenient!), I don't know if they also ship to your country. But maybe you can do some research on some brands. www.babiesrus.com www.drugstore.com Good luck! It's wonderful to have a baby! Don't let those backward doctors spoil the experience - take charge and use diapers!
