Organic Cloth Diapers Questions
How do I remove baby poo stains on cloth diapers? I have GDiapers so the outer cloth pants are pretty colors so I dont really want to fade them out but my lil one has gotten some really good poo stains on them. I dont want to use harsh chemicals to remove the stains like bleach. I have tried Orange TKO oil and this works awesome on the white ones if I sun them after but im not too sure on the color ones. Is there a good poo stain remover that is organic or natural?
which ones are the best cloth diapers you used? I am looking for organic unbleached diapers, preferably hemp. Which diapers did you use and which ones didn't work for you? thanks I really don't want to use disposables. They are bad for the environment AND your baby. I calculated it out and the cost for using cloth is much cheaper than disposables. Please, don't recommend using disposables. thanks
What makes a great diaper cover (for cloth diapering)? I am in love with the organic wool diaper covers I have seen, and I am on a mission to find the highest quality product out there. I´ve been told it´s worth the money...but this is all very new to me, and I´m buying some as a present for some of my pregnant friends. For cloth diapering only, please!
What are the most important organic baby items to buy? I am about to have my first baby and I think I might be becoming one of those paranoid new moms who reads into everything she hears. I need to use cloth diapers to avoid dioxin, an organic mattress to avoid flame retardant chemicals, etc. Does anyone know what the most important items for the baby are that need to be organic? I do not have the sort of budget that will allow me to go 100% organic. Any suggestions?
Cloth diapers? I'm going to start my 4 month old on cloth diapers. I like all natural and organic. Does anyone know the best type to buy. I have searched the net and have found all-in-one diapers and pocket diapers. I was wanting to buy the best. Thank you.
I need some ideas for throwing a "green" baby shower; how to be tactful and still be specific? My sister is very health/eco conscious and she wants her baby to be too; I would like to say on the invitations to the shower that she will be using things such as: glass bottles (not plastic), cloth diapers, organic clothing, no mineral oil based toiletries, etc. Of course she will register for these things, but sometimes you get gifts not on the registry. What is a good way of esplaining her definition of green on the invitation without sounding demanding or hard to please? Thank you for your help. I am throwing the shower for my preggo sis.
I want an all natural baby. Any suggestions? Besides cloth diapers, breastfeeding, organic goods, and home sewn outfits. I really like cute baby outfits in stores, so I'll still buy them. Just looking for any additional things I can do to give my baby a healthier start.
How can I go green with raising my infant? How can I go green with raising my infant? Glass bottles instead of plastic, organic and petro free baby lotion, soap, etc organic clothing and bedding, wood floors in nursery, cloth diapers.......WHAT ELSE? Thank you for your ideas!
Cloth Diapering/Alternative Moms: Did friends and family give you a hard time about your choice to go cloth? Cloth Diapering/Alternative Moms: Did friends and family give you a hard time about your choice to go cloth? I've always been a little different to the rest of the family. I'm considered the "hippie" of the bunch. And of course everyone has an opinion about my opinions. (Oh she's the one that only likes cage free chicken eggs, and buys eco-friendly paper towels! Weird!) Anyway, I'll be giving birth in October to a little boy. I want to cloth diaper. I have researched the options, I'm going to try a variety of different ones, they are all homemade, well made, and with different materials so I can find the combinations I like the most. I have also bought some 7th generation diapers just in case as backups and I'm pretty prepared I think. Ive spoken with a lot of friends who cloth diaper and the owner of the cloth diapering company has been giving me guidance as well. So of course! The whole world has an opinion about this. My mother in law giggled at me and said "I will buy you some Pampers because you're too lazy to stick with cloth diapering. Its a hassle anyway. It wont last." Then my sister, who lives in another country, spoke my mother and told her I must only use Huggies, Pampers and the other pricey name brands. She also told me I'm being very foolish cloth diapering because my child will just be wet all the time, he will constantly have a diaper rash and he will suffer. She says I need to keep an open mind for my child's sake. Also, countless friends who only use disposables have given me lectures on this. The worst are the ones that don't even have children of their own because I feel they are just being nosy. I have tried to explain that I've researched all of this, that the cloth diapers I will be using are not the big rectangles of white fabric our moms used 30 yrs ago, and I want to at least try it myself before just giving up. Ive also come into question for things like wanting to use organic formula if I cant breastfeed, for wanting to swaddle, for eating organic only while I'm pregnant, and basically all of my "crunchy" ideas. I've been able to take it all in stride thus far but today, I don't know if its the hormones and moodiness or what but I got so upset about it. I felt as though my sister was implying I would be a bad mother if I insisted on cloth. I know she meant well but it did get to me. Did any other moms come up against protest from family and friends for your choice to cloth diaper or any of the "different" choices you make in life? How did you deal with this without letting it upset you? Im 32 weeks pregnant btw PS: I really don't want to hear about anyone's personal opinion about how awful cloth is right now. I'm hearing enough of it and I have researched all of this. All the aspects. Thank you for respecting that if you can. (Kimberly) :) Cathrl69, thank you. I understand what you are saying but I do want to try these things first and then make my own choice. I realize I might change my mind and Im okay with that. I feel like people wont let me try though
Is it rude for me to list gift registry infmation inside a baby shower invitation? also, is it rude for me to hand write "non registry gift ideas" on the back of the registry card? I ask because a lot of times people do not buy from the registry but I want to kind of "steer" those gifts in a certain direction. My sister, who I am throwing the shower for, is very organic. For instance, I would like to say on the back of the registry card "Non-registry gift ideas include glass baby bottles, cloth diapers, organic baby lotions and soaps....this baby is going green!" Wouldi t be totally rude of me to include that with the invitation (the invitation also states the baby is being raised green)? I don't want to come across as bossy or greedy at all. So I really want to know what you think. We just have seeen lots of petroleum based baby oil and plastic diapers as part of gift baskets at baby showers and these are not things my sis will use. Please give me your thoughts on this! She is only registering at one place (likely Target). Part of the problem is that I am deaf-I am accepting the RSVP's via a phone msg service because I cannot recieve phone calls. So it's easier for me to give them the registry info with the invitation since I will not be available to answer questions by phone.
Question for those who have child(ren) in a more expensive educational daycare? I have a few questions about what to expect from daycares in order to pick this best for my son. 1. Do you think it worth it to pay an extra $50 a week for a more expensive education program daycare (here regular price would be 155 a week and the more expensive would be around 200 a week)? 2. If so, why? What is different and better than a regular daycare? 3. Do you know if they allow cloth diapers? Use organic foods or milk? 4. Do they enforce naptime? Any info you can give me is appreciated. The more expensive school here is Primrose Academy. My son is 14 months old. Thanks!
Is this wording rude for a shower invitation? I want the invite to serve the dual purposes of both inviting the guests and educating them about what type of thing to buy for this "green" baby shower. But I don't want it to sound like a greedy gift grab. Please help me fine tune this! *** Baby XXX is almost due No one knows if it’s pink or blue, Jeff and Julie Have decided on green, Let’s help this baby’s footprint Remain unseen! It’s a couples shower! Saturday, date of party, 6:00 p.m. 123 Rainbow Rd Given by: me and my spouse Registered at baby store Like to think outside the registry? Eco-friendly gifts such as glass bottles, cloth diapers, or organic anything, are great ideas too! *** PS. I know a lot of people debate whether you should list registry information, but everyone I am inviting has listed registry info on their own baby shower invitations, so I'm going with that type of format. I'm throwing this shower for my sister-we have the same group of friends. Sorry I wasn't clear on that.
Does this shower invitation make sense to you? ? Is this wording rude for a shower invitation? And FYI, I'm throwing this shower for my sister-we have the same group of friends. There are things not available to her to register for, such as the cloth diapers or organic (paraben free) soaps and lotions. Those have to come from a health food store. So I think the blurb is necessary to help people avoid stocking her up on the johnson's and johnson's products which are loaded with preservatives and petroleum and she would not use.

I enjoyed being home with him this summer, but I am in grad school and can only stay home with him on Fridays- Sundays. At least I only keep him in there for a few hrs each day and his grandma always picks him up early when I can't get home until late.
Best Book on Preparing for Pregnancy? I want to educate myself on how to prepare my body, life, and future for a child. From what cloth diapers to use to what vitamins and foods to be taking every day. I want to devote a year to making my body and life healthy enough for possible pregnancy. What is the best book to educate/prepare myself for pregnancy? I'd like to stay somewhat organic throughout my pregnancy as well.
Pregnancy dreams?? I love hearing all the amazing pregnancy dreams women have. Here are a few of mine, please note I'm not yet pregnant! I've dreamt that I gave birth to an eight month old girl, and she was very active, and I was so tired after labour I didn't know how to take care of her! I even called her by her name that I've chosen (which I'm sure will change 600 times before birth) I've dreamt I gave birth to an infant and he was beautiful! But I couldn't find the things I wanted/need. Cloth diapers, nipple cream, organic onesies, etc. I was searching and had to use disosables with hemp covers (why, i'm not sure). I was very upset. I've dreamt of labour that went on for hours, it was very painful and the lighting was very dark. Smelt lovely though! All within a month....hehe. Anyways, what are your crazy cat birthing dreams! And did you have dreams before you were pregnanct about birth, labour, baby etc??
Dealing with someone who thinks they are a better parent than you . . .? Unfortunately this person is kind of part of my family which makes the situation harder. We both had a baby two weeks apart (my second, her first) and she and other persons in my family act like she is doing the mom thing better than me. For example, she doesn't work, breastfeeds, uses cloth diapers, plans to use organic food, spends 24/7 with the baby - blah, blah, blah. As for me, I work out of my home (while baby sleeps), bottlefeed, use disposible diapers, and from time to time venture out (and leave baby with daddy). I don't think I am a bad person what so ever, but I get all this constant comparison to her - not just from her (when we talk) but from family members and annoying questions - like why can't I do that too. I have to work, my husband works, I have a 12 year old to raise in addition to the baby. Plus everyone bends over backwards to help her (clean house, make dinner, do laundry) while my husband and I do it all ourselves with no help from anyone. Any advice?
Green Parenting: what steps have you taken? My husband and I are very pro Earth and try to be as environmentally friendly as it is possible to be with 4 children (6 month old triplets & 22 month old daughter). We are just looking for more advice/ideas or really to see what other people are doing to be more Earth conscientious. Thus far we: ♥ Own all energy star appliances ♥ Breastfeed all our children ♥ Purchase organic foods when possible ♥ Use cloth diapers in combination with elimination communication (used to have a diaper service because it was hard to keep up when the triplets were little, but started washing our own this month) ♥ Have purchased shoes from ecoSNEAKS ♥ Use clothesline instead of dryer as much as possible ♥ Recycle as much as we possibly can ♥ Reuse everyday items (bags & such) as much as possible ♥ Most importantly, strive to teach our children the values of being environmentally friendly What are other Green Parents out there doing?
what wool diaper covers & stuffings are slim enough to fit under reg. daytime clothes w/out blowout? i'm new to cloth diapering and considering getting some imse vimse or baby beehinds wool wrap covers (because i dont' want to use PUL or anything with poly content on my wee love). i wondered about little beetle wool wraps too? i like the bummis super brite covers taht i have, but want to quit using them ASAP - - however - - the gussets work GREAT! which is why i started looking for slim wool covers with gussets. i have a couple knitted wool shorties & one longies (thanks to her grammas), but no wayyyy can i put clothes over them :( also - what slim style fitted diapers (or prefolds, or....??) do you use that work best under the trim wool wraps that still did a good daytime job (i cna use the knitted woolies at night)? i'm looking for unbleached, untreated or organic cottons, hemp or bamboo primarily. no synthetics though. thank you :)
Another baby? I'm having my 4th child in November and have decided to use glass bottles and cloth diapers. Although there are many on the market I'm affraid that some cloth diapers may not be safe to use.Either due to where they are made or the dye they use. Also I've never used glass bottles before and am looking for ones that have organic nipples. It is very important to us that we use all organic materials for this baby. If you have any good answers as to where I can find the safest and most reliable bottles and cloth diapers please help!
gdiapers/alternatives/septic...?? OKAY SOOOO. I am commited to going "green" with this baby {breast feeding, feeding it organic food ect.} and I need a good alternative for diapers that won't hurt the earth...so i heard about gdiapers [gdiapers have reusable shells and biodegradable flushable liners... http://www.gdiapers.com/ ] and I would really love to give them a try but I have a septic system...I have done some research on them and found them and found that it isnt good to use them right away because of how much i would be flushing away.... So,I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good alternatives to gdiapers something that is not harmful to the enviornment or my the baby =] I know I could use cloth diapers but a girlfriend of mine had a bad experience with them in the past and I am hesitant to use them... thankyou! =]
Cost increase of basics? Anyone have comments or explanations on why the costs of basic items have gone so high. I don't mean gas but groceries and personal care items. Milk? Fresh veggies? Tampons? Maxi pads? Diapers? Formula? What is happening? Anyone feel the American way of life is slipping down hill because of the changing prices of everyday items? My family's solution? I 'm moving to a farm to grow my own organic food and drink milk from my own cows. I'm getting a sewing machine to replace $10 in pads every month with cloth. I home school my kids since public school isn't worth it........Yes, for my family, the clock will go back into the past..... I love USA but I'm feeling let down. Why do certain industries get federal bail out money to reward consumers with high prices in such basic needs? Best answer will comment on economy in an intelligent manner, not on my family, OK........
