How To Fold Cloth Diapers Questions
Gerber Flat Fold Birdseye Cloth Diapers or Heavyweight Gauze Cloth Diapers? If you are familiar with cloth diaper, can you please tell me which one is better, softer, thinner, easily dry after washed? I found these two kind being sold at Walmart. I'm thinking of getting either the Gerber Flat Fold Birdseye Cloth Diapers or Heavyweight Gauze Cloth Diapers. The Gauze one is more expensive than the birdeye diapers. Does that mean the gauze has better quality? What other department stores sell them or online stores? Is there other kind of cloth diapers which you highly recommend? Thanks in advance for your advices.
What is your favorite method for folding cloth diapers? I'm just starting to use pre-fold diapers- the "regular" rectangular ones. I've tried the "newspaper" fold and the "jellyroll" fold, but I am looking for some more ideas on what other folks might be using. I'm writing about cloth diapers for this blog http://www.babykicks.com/blog/ and I have some images on the "newspaper" fold here: http://www.babykicks.com/blog/?p=13
Cloth diaper users: how do I get the poop smell out of my diapers? I have two FuzziBunz AIO that seem to smell like poop still. Right now the way I was my diapers is I dump any loose feces in the toilet, keep my diapers in a dry bucket and I do laundry every night or every other night at the longest. I keep baking powder in my bucket. I do a cold rinse then a hot wash where I add 1/2 cup baking soda then another cold rinse where I add 1/3 cup white vinegar then a final cold rinse. I then dry them on high heat for 60-90 minutes. What should I being doing differently? I don't seem to have the same problem with my pre-folds or my bum genius diapers. Thanks! I forgot to mention that along with the baking soda I also put in detergent in the hot wash cycle
cloth diapers? i want to start using cloth diapers...i am thinking of using pre-folds or contour cloth diapers with a wrap style velcro or snap cover to hold it in place because I don't want to use pins. Any one have experience with this...what is your favorite brand or style. where do you buy your diapers
I am thinking about cloth diapers for our 2nd child. I really don't know where to start to look for products. I've read about diapers that you fold, liners, velco (no pins) and on and on. Some of the packages I've seen in the stores seem so expensive and if you need to but them as they grow, is it worth it? I wouldn't be making them just buying and if you have any suggestions, ideas of where to look to get the best value -- I saw one post that said you can get one size that fits newborn through toddler but I can't find where to look. So, if you can't tell, I'm pretty clueless on the subject!! Thank!
Cloth diapers--do stores sell them or do you have to order them online? i've been shopping around for cloth diapers, the fitted / pocket / all-in-one types (not the just folded squares) but i can't seem to find any in stores. Are they sold in stores or can they only be found new online or used in the occassional 2nd hand store? thanks a bunch!! i was just at a Walmart supercenter last night and all they had were the flat rectangular cloth diapers, not the fitted ones like these: (just an example) http://www.bumgenius.com/one-size.php
Does anyone use cloth diapers? I know there are lots of different kinds available, can anyone explain the difference? I don't think I want the big square, fold 'em yourself kind (unless someone can make a good case why they're better than the newer models), but I am a little lost looking at all the newer varieties. Can anyone reccomend a good brand?
are there "easy" cloth diapers? With my first son, I went back to school (fulltime college student) when he was only six weeks and then back to work part time a few months later, and didn't really have the option to use cloth diapers. He does fine with disposables now but he has my sensitive skin. Baby number two is on the way and I'll have at least six months to be a full-time stay at home mommy. I would love to use cloth diapers but honestly they seem like so much of a pain. Not to mention my son will only be 18 months when my daughter is born and I don't have the time or patience for folding some sort of intricate diaper origami. Is there an easy way?
Why don't more people use cloth diapers? This is a serious question. I am a full-time working mom and I still have time to do 2 extra loads of laundry per week. With diapers, there is no sorting or folding either. I shove the clean ones into a drawer. Are people really so hard pressed for time that they can't throw something in the washer and push the button? I am just curious. The main answer I get is the "time" factor, but I can't understand how a parent can't spare 15 combined minutes a week. The money savings to me is worth it.
Couple questions for Cloth Diaper users? I have been using cloth diapers for a few months now and am expanding my stash. I have mostly been using fitteds and a few AIO. I have bought some pre-folds to use around the house and was wondering do I need to use a doubler/liner, or do I just use the pre-fold as it with snappi and cover? Also, does anyone have info on how to make my own doubler/liner. I am on a very, very tight budget and would liek to be able to make my own instead of buying some.
more cloth diapers question...? I was told that the prefold are the one that has a "thicker" part in the middle is that true? I got some cloth diapers as a gift for my baby, and they are just woven cloth, like a quilted material almost. If this is not consider pre-fold, do we fold them the same way? Thank you.
Anyone have experience with Miracle Diapers standard shipping time? I sent my signed agreement back two weeks ago and haven't heard a thing! I'm not worrying about my $14, but that my son is gonna stay in Gerber pre-folds the rest of his diapering career! We are trying to work up our supply of cloth diapers, but it's not easy and am really looking forward to my Miracle Diapers to come in! How long did others wait?? And what company shipped them?
Do any of you use Cloth diapers? We plan to because of several factors. I've already decided that I want to use prefolds. I have a question though. I read somewhere that getting newborn size cloth diapers is a personal choice because babies grow so darn fast and a bigger size can be folded to fit. It also pointed out that newborn diapers might be worth it because you can always use them as a soaker pad with older babies. So what have you that have cloth diapered done? Have you invested in newborn diapers or foregone them for a larger size? If you chose the larger size, what size did you get? On the subject of cloth diapers...what are some good diaper pail brands that are reasonably child/pet proof? Thanks. :) LOL. I asked about a pet proof diaper PAIL, not a pet proof diaper. Sheesh. Feel free to call them nappies if you want. I do (hubby's Scottish) :)
Cloth diapering: using prefolds with pocket diapers? I'm pregnant with my 3rd child, considering the switch to cloth diapers. First two kids were well over 8lbs at birth, long and skinny whole life, 3rd kid will probably follow suit, if that affects what products you recommend. I've just about decided on BumGenius One-size 3.0, but I'm wondering why the inserts for any pocket diapers HAVE to go inside the pocket? Why can't you just put the insert (or a prefold folded in thirds) on top? We've done this with disposable doublers with disposable diapers before with success, but just for overnight wetting on older babies. It would seem to me that the absorbency would be where you need it, any stains would be on the insert and not the diaper itself, and it would make laundering easier since you wouldn't have to separate them to wash and dry and then put them back together. Does it move too much that way? More likely to leak? I can't be the first person to have thought of this, so there must be a reason this method isn't publicized.
Cloth Diapering a Newborn, which diapers? After researching about which cloth diapers seem to be the best, we decided to get the: Bum Genius 3.0 One Size pocket diaper, Fuzzibuns new small pocket diaper, and hemp/fleece infant prefolds with Bumpkin covers. Thinking about getting the 12 pack in the Bum Genius, 12 pack in the fuzzibuns, 5 covers (only the prefolds I'm getting need covers), and 24 prefolds. 1st, is this a good number to start with for a newborn? I would want to launder every 2 1/2, 3 days. 2nd, does anyone know if the Bum Genius 3.0 one size is too big for a newborn, or if the fuzzibuns are? 3rd, does anyone know if the Bum Genius 3.0 or the fuzzibuns are okay to use for a baby with an umbilical chord, can they be folded down? If anyone has any answers to even one of these questions it would help alot, Thanks!
To those who use cloth diapers..? I was wondering what the pros/cons are? The worst I can think of are stinky diapers...having to wash them...how do you handle that? How many diapers do you have to buy, on average? How hard are they to learn to fold? Any info would be great, thank you.
Cloth diaper organization.? As a mother who uses cloth diapers in the home, I often wonder to myself how other cloth diapering mothers did things in their homes. "Did you keep all of your babies diapering things folded, and inside a baby dresser"? "Did you keep all the diapers, pins, rubber pants, wash cloths, etc, on top of the baby's dresser"? "Did you just keep certain things for diapering in the dresser"? "Where did you keep the diaper pail"? For years now I have more or less kept a day or two's supply of diapers folded and ready on top of the dresser, along with extra pairs of rubber pants, (maybe 3-4 pairs), a couple extra sets of safety pins, the powder, some wash cloths, and the diaper rash ointment. Extra diapers are kept folded and tucked away inside diaper stackers in the baby's closet, and the diaper pail is kept inside the bathroom. Looking to pick up some new ideas to use in my home regarding baby care.
Cloth diapers.... Diaper Covers/Wraps vs. Diaper Pins? My baby isn't even here yet and my mom and I are having "discussions" already!! My mom is having a hard time picturing why you don't need diaper pins to hold a pre-fold in place. She is still imagining using the rubber pants that were used on me some 25 odd years ago. She really has not seen the new wraps/covers that are out there, (Bummis, Thirsties, etc.) and she just doesn't understand why you don't need diaper pins anymore. Can anyone help explain this more clearly? I've tried and it doesn't seem to get through... She has sort of seen a picture, but she still doesn't understand.... She can be pretty thick so I don't know if it will ever be "resolved" per se. I've tried telling her that it holds everything in place like a disposable diaper and nothing really floats around in there.... I don't know how else to explain it!
Breastfeed baby and Kushies AIO diapers? I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using these cloth diapers with a breastfed baby? I have heard mixed reviews about these being able to contain breastfed BM, I would like to hear some opinions about this before I decide to order a few of these diapers. I would like to try to breastfeed and cloth diaper, but I want something that my husband is going to be able to change, so pins and folding aren't really an option. Thanks for your help!
Cloth diapers- Fuzzi Bunz?? I bought Fuzzi Bunz for my son when he was a baby and we loved them! But then when he was about 18 months old he started getting diaper rashes really bad, probably the worst I've ever seen. Once I had ruled out everything else, I put him in regular pre folds for a week or two and the diaper rashes stopped. So, I tried Oxyclean, which didn't help. Then I tried stripping them in the washer and by hand with Dawn, which still didn't work. With my little man's super sensitive skin, I thought maybe his skin was just intolerable. So I put them through a couple washes and about 15 rinses and packed them away. Now I have a 4 month old who usually wears flats and prefolds. She's only had one diaper rash but today I put her in one of the fuzzi bunz and her bottom broke out. Any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of whatever's harboring in these diapers? I'd hate to think I've spent all of this money on them and we won't even be able to use them again!
tye-dye.............? I"m a SAHM bored looking for ideas on things I can make and sell. I thought about tye dye baby apparel like onsies and pre-folded cloth diapers. If you came across one at a reasonable price would you buy it?
Cloth diapering? I want to cloth diaper, but I can't afford the more expensive, nicer cloth diapers like Bum Genius. So I'm going the old fashion route! However, I can't find places that sell just regular pre-folds, inserts, or diaper covers! Can someone direct me to a few of these places please! Thanks!

Best cloth diaper starter kit? I've decided to try cloth diapers, and I dont want to spend a -ton- on something I'm not sure I'll stick with yet. My boy is a bit over 20 pounds, so I also cant get an infant kit. I spend about $40 a month on diapers, so a kit somewhere in the same ballpark would be great...I've seen a few but dont know which is best. From what I've read, i'm leaning towards chinese or indian pre-folds, though wouldnt mind to pay a bit extra if it included one AIO. Any suggestions? Anything I should stay away from?

Cloth diapering mommies? After much research I have decided I will go with cloth with this baby (due 6-3-08). I am a stay at home mom, so I have the time- geez maybe it will give me something to do and make me less bored! Anyway, I have decided, due to money issues, to go with pre-folds with a diaper cover. I know the all-in-ones are easier, but the start up cost is just to much (I stay at home, have to cut costs somewhere!) I have pretty much decided on prowrap covers as they seem like a good product for the money, but I would like to hear if any of you have other suggestions on wraps. Breastfeeding moms, you know what breastmilk poo is like, so keep that in mind for me. Also, what brand of pre-folds worked for you? Thanks for your suggestions.

Cloth diapering questions? My daughter was born on August 5, so she's pretty new. 80) My husband and I are trying to cloth diaper, but we're having a few snags. 1. We are using prefolds (you know with the thick part in the middle) and have found that it is really bulky between her legs. Is there any way around that? We've been using the angel something or other fold. 2. We've noticed that the diapers are getting drenched all the way through. At first I thought she was peeing that much, but I don't think that's the case anymore. I'm starting to wonder if it's sweat. And if she is sweating that much, that can't be a good thing. Has anyone experienced this, and what did you do about it? Oh yeah, we use those plasticky Gerber diaper covers if it makes a difference.
Cloth diaper question....please help? I use prefold cloth diapers for my 4 month old son...and plastic pants. Right now I am using the Gerber brand that you can buy at Babies R Us. I am currently using 6-9 month old plastic pants. I need to buy some larger sized diapers online because my son will soon outgrow the ones I have now. My son is a large baby (18 lbs.). If I buy toddler sized cloth diapers can I get away with using them in a month or so if I fold over the fronts? I also want to buy some softer covers, rather than the plastic pants. Can I also get a larger size without having problems with leaks? My son has very good sized legs and thighs so the plastic pants seem to dig into his skin leaving red marks. Will the softer covers do the same thing? Help please...I want to purchase these things in the next couple of days and need advice. Thanks!
What is the best cloth diaper to use, that you feel is inexpensive but very good? I currently use CD on my baby, I bought them from Target, it is a pre-fold, and I use vinyl pull ups as her covers. Well it seems like they are always leaking through her clothes. So, I don't know if I should buy my Cloth Diapers from a specialty website that does them? Or am I doing something wrong? The question is about Cloth Diapering, so if you know nothing about it or just wanna put your two sense in about disposables don't bother leaving a comment... this is a serious question for mothers who know about Cloth Diapering.. Thank you!
Cloth diaper mommies? I use prefold cloth diapers and plastic pants on my 4 month old son. I am going to have to buy some bigger prefold diapers in a couple of months because he is a whopping 18 lbs. already and the diapers and quickly getting too small. If I buy the toddler ones now will they be absolutely huge on him or can I get away with folding down the front for a while? Also, I am thinking about getting a few covers with velcro or snaps rather than the plastic pants. What size do I get that I can get the most use out of and still get the protection from leaks?
Cloth Diapering Frustrations? This is my fourth baby and I decided to try cloth diapering to save money. She's now 12 days old, and we're on day 3 of using the Bummi's cloth diapering kit I bought. I'm just a little frustrated!! First of all, I feel like I'm changing her every 1/2 an hour! As if I need even less sleep right now! The kit instructions say that you will know/can feel when your baby is wet---I'm not sure what they're talking about, unless you count knowing she's wet because it's leaking!! I think we've gone through nearly as many outfits as diapers. I think I'm doing everything as instructed--washed the diapers 3 times to prepare them (natural cotton), I'm folding and laying the pre-folds inside the whisper wrap covers just as the booklet says, making sure none is peeking out, fastening the cover as snugly as is possible (she's nearly 9 pounds now and the kit is for 8-15lbs)...but still they leak! She's also got a rash, which I thought wouldn't happen with cloth, and the cover is irritating her belly button and making it bleed. PS-the rash started when she was in disposables. I want to make this work but I'm frustrated!!
"Which is better to used when cloth diapering a baby at night? AIO or Fitted? I am new to cloth diapering. Very New. My initial purchase was a few thirsties diaper covers and some prefolds. I haven't tried to use the prefolds at night. My kid is one. I pretty much gave up on the snappi's and trying to wrap the prefold around baby. (I have trouble even wrapping presents). So far, I just been folding my prefold into 3rds and placing it right in the diaper cover (I had to cut the prefold down to do make it fit in the diaper cover.) I just don't think doing this will make keep her dry at night. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using fitted diapers or AIO at night. She's 12 months. Also what are plain Kushies. are they an AIO?
What is the point of using Soakers? Ok Im looking into cloth diapering for my son (to be born soon!). I bought some white cloth diapers at babies r us - just the regular white pads that Im somehow supposed to fold over him and secure with safety pins I guess. I saw these wool soakers online as well. What are they supposed to do? Are they used OVER the cloth diapers to soak up excess or are they used alone? Any one have any ideas on CHEAP cloth diapers I can buy?
AIO cloth diaper question? First off let me say I am new to the whole cloth diaper concept. I wanted to use them from the get go, but my baby was born 3 months early and spent 66 days in NICU. She is now pushing 9 months and once again I am looking into cloth. I want to use AIO (all in ones), because I do not have the want nor the time to mess with wraps, folds, and covers. Thats just too much work so please do not suggest I use them. My question is what is the best type of AIO diapers to use? I had thought about using Kushies, but have recently read they leak and its hard to get the odor out. Has anyone had any experience with them? I need a diaper that will be durable enough to put in the dryer. I do not have a way to hang them outside in the sun. Also how do AIO's hold up at night? My daughter already leaks through sposies at night. So I'm kinda scared to use cloth. Please any advise would be appreciated! With the cost of EVERYTHING going up...I really want to make this work!!
how to clean a leather lounge? I decided to let my son be at home today with no diaper on, he had underwear on instead, i put a folded towel on the lounge and sat him on it, incase there was an accident i was hoping it wouldnt go through the towel, however i was wrong, and now theres a round pee stain (which looks black on my light grey lounge). I got a damped cloth and wiped the area but that didnt work, any ideas on how to remove the stain? clean it? thanks in advance !!! =]
Any other non-mainstream products I should know about? 1) Baby Wraps - These things are awesome! They look beautiful and they're safe and comfortable. Why would I buy a high tech carrier when all I need is a strip of pretty fabric? 2) Cloth Diapers - I was convinced these were a thing of the past, but now that I look into it I'm shocked to see what is available! There are tons of types of diapers! I don't even have to learn how to fold them if I buy the contoured kind. There's even a diaper service in my area, and I didn't even know what a diaper service was! So anyway, as a soon to be new mommy I'm learning about most of the baby products I'll need by filling out registries at target.com and babiesrus.com. But those two things aren't available at mainstream stores like that! I couldn't even find a diaper pail that wasn't the high tech genie type, which is part of what led me to believe no one used cloth diapers anymore. So my question is, what other awesome products are they hiding from me? Wow you guys are awesome! I'm learning so much :) Babies über alles - Did you bathe your baby in the tub with you even as a newborn?
my one week old has diaper rash, or says the doctor....? I was changing her diaper and in noticed in the folds of her skin where her leg meets the pelvis, her skin looks irritated and raw, and I asked her pediatrician what it was because it didnt look like diaper rash to me, but more like when you scratch yoruself so bad some skin comes off, and thats what it looked like, btu she said because its so moist and the skin isnt breathing that it was dish pan hands but for the genital area, i go to a naval hospital and although she has her degrees and has been doing it for 15 years, i still have my doubts or maybe its because im a new mom, and dont want my baby to be in such pain or what looks like it, has anyone ever had a diaper rash like what i described for their kids? i used desitin cream, and i have stopped useing the wipes and use a wash cloth with warm water, and let the area dry out, but it breaks my heart to see my baby cry like that it cant be a yeast infection because its not in her labia its not around there at all its on her upper thigh, but where it meets her pelvic area, she just has so much fat folds that its inside there when i pull back I use pampers swaddlers and i dont make them to tight, or to loose, and i was always told that the powder wasnt a good idea, but letting them dry for a while, what should i wash her with when i give her her bath/shower
potty training accidents? I decided i'd let my son be around the house today with no diaper on, he had underwear on instead. I sat him down on the lounge, but i put a folded towel under him hoping if he had an accident it wouldnt go through. However i was wrong, now theres a round pee stain on the leather lounge, how can i clean it without staining it more, (its a light grey colour and the pee stain made it black so its noticable) i tried just using a damped cloth to wipe it, but that didnt work. any suggestions on cleaning it? thank you in advance.
Cloth diapers? I was wondering what you need to get started with cloth diapers. I was looking into it to save some money since I am having twins, I dont mind extra loads of wash or having to clean poop off. I am a little confused on what I would need to buy. There are the pre folds, covers, other diaper looking things. I am really at a lost. I went to different web sites and they say to buy diapers but what part is the diaper and what do I need covers with. Thanks
Cloth diapers? I told my mom that i am thinking of trying to use cloth diapers on my baby. (her first grandkid, over-excited) and she shipped me 5 dozen diapers. I think they are call the pre-fold. Just 1 big square. My question is, this quantities should be enough right? i can't imagine not washing them every 2 or 3 days. And if anyone has any website/instruction on how to fold these? and the quantity of diapers covers i need for each stage, and the brand they recommend? I am brand new at this baby business, not to mention cloth diaper. Any help or information will really help. thank you!
Cloth diapers? I would just like to know the ins and outs of cloth diapers. How they work; what detergent to use; what kind of fold is best; best brand; best material; most economical use; where to get them; what do we need to use them;how to wash them; pretty much everything you could think of; we would like to know. thank you.
cloth diapers? I need all the info I can get on cloth diapers. I want to use them for my future children but I don't really know anything about them. How many should I buy? Which kind of fold is best? thank you for you answers
cloth diapers? I have a ton of old t-shirts, i was told by someone , much older than me, that i could use them as diapers?? i dont know if this is true or not, but if i learn to fold them will this work? well i love my baby and the earth, i dont want to waist them if i can use them, and because i dont have all the money in the world cloth seems like a great idea. thanks!
Cloth Diapers? I have done a little reading on cloth diapers, and so far I have heard many great things about them, so im thinking about using them for my baby, Im only 9 weeks perg. so i have a while to think about it, but I was wondering a few things. Is there anyone who tried them and just didnt like them (for a reason other then having to wash them)? How much harder are they to wash then a normal load of laundry? How much cheaper are they then dispoable ones? Do you ever have trouble folding them right or keeping them on your baby? Thanks a lot, I of course will do more research on the subject!
Tye-Dye baby? I"m a SAHM bored looking for ideas on things I can make and sell. I thought about tye dye baby apparel like onsies and pre-folded cloth diapers. If you came across one at a reasonable price would you buy it?
Cloth Diapers? I've been cloth-dipering my baby (7 1/2 weeks) since coming home from the hospital.... Now he's pees alot more. I use two diapers at a time during the night, both flat folds, but he's soaking them at night when he sleeps for 4-6 hours at a stretch. I am using covers, Dappi, Chummies, and ProRap, but the Dappi's seem to leak a little or at least the fabric wicks out moisture? If anyone has ever used cloth past a month (hehe) how do I combat the night leakies, and STILL use cloth? I mean, I've got TWO diapers and a cover wrapped around him, so that his little legs look all funny and stick out kind of... I want him to have less bulk, but still absorbent? Anything better than birdseye cotton diapers? No, no disposables for my baby, don't suggest pls. Thanks. :)
tye dye baby? Im a SAHM bored looking for ideas on things I can make and sell. I thought about tye dye baby apparel like onsies and pre-folded cloth diapers. If you came across one at a reasonable price would you buy it?
cloth diapering...? i want to use indian prefolds for the first few months, how many pre-folds and diaper covers am i likely to need? i'm going to use the snappi clasps and i'm not sure if i'll need covers through the day or just at night...
